Psalm 66-69

Come and See the Works of God

For the choir director. A Song. A Psalm.

66 (A)Make a loud shout to God, all the earth;
Sing praise for the (B)glory of His name;
Establish His (C)praise as glorious.
Say to God, “How [a](D)fearsome are Your works!
Because of the abundance of Your strength Your enemies will [b](E)cower before You.
(F)All the earth will worship You,
And will (G)sing praises to You;
They will sing praises to Your name.” [c]Selah.

(H)Come and see the works of God,
Who is (I)fearsome in His deeds toward the sons of men.
He (J)turned the sea into dry land;
They passed through (K)the river on foot;
There let us (L)be glad in Him!
He (M)rules by His might forever;
His (N)eyes keep watch on the nations;
Let not the rebellious (O)exalt themselves. Selah.

Bless our God, O peoples,
And [d](P)make the sound of His praise heard,
Who [e](Q)establishes us among the living
And (R)does not allow our feet to stumble.
10 For You have (S)tested us, O God;
You have (T)refined us as silver is refined.
11 You (U)brought us into the net;
You established an oppressive burden upon our loins.
12 You made men (V)ride over our heads;
We went through (W)fire and through water,
Yet You (X)brought us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall (Y)come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall (Z)pay You my vows,
14 Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was (AA)in distress.
15 I shall (AB)offer to You burnt offerings of fat beasts,
With the smoke of (AC)rams;
I shall make an offering of [f]bulls with male goats. Selah.

16 (AD)Come and hear, all who [g]fear God,
And I will (AE)recount what He has done for my soul.
17 I called out to Him with my mouth,
And [h]He was (AF)exalted with my tongue.
18 If I [i](AG)see wickedness in my heart,
The (AH)Lord [j]will not [k]hear;
19 But certainly (AI)God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
20 (AJ)Blessed be God,
Who (AK)has not turned away my prayer
Nor His lovingkindness from me.

Cause Your Face to Shine upon Us

For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.

67 God be gracious to us and (AL)bless us,
And (AM)cause His face to shine [l]upon us— [m]Selah.
That (AN)Your way may be known on the earth,
(AO)Your salvation among all nations.
Let the (AP)peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
Let the (AQ)nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will (AR)judge the peoples with uprightness
And (AS)lead the nations on the earth. Selah.
Let the (AT)peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
The (AU)earth has yielded its produce;
God, our God, (AV)blesses us.
God blesses us,
[n]That (AW)all the ends of the earth may fear Him.

Let God’s Enemies Be Scattered

For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.

68 [o]Let (AX)God arise, [p]let His enemies be scattered,
And [q]let those who hate Him flee before Him.
As (AY)smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
As (AZ)wax melts before the fire,
So let the (BA)wicked perish before God.
But let the (BB)righteous be glad; let them exult before God;
And let them rejoice with gladness.
Sing to God, (BC)sing praises to His name;
[r](BD)Lift up a song for Him who (BE)rides through the deserts,
Whose (BF)name is [s]Yah, and exult before Him.

A (BG)father of the fatherless and a (BH)judge [t]for the widows,
Is God in His (BI)holy habitation.
God (BJ)causes the lonely to inhabit a home;
He (BK)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only (BL)the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

O God, when You (BM)went forth before Your people,
When You (BN)marched through the wasteland, [u]Selah.
The (BO)earth quaked;
The (BP)heavens also dripped rain at the presence of God;
[v](BQ)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
You (BR)caused abundant rain to sprinkle down, O God;
You established Your inheritance when it was [w]parched.
10 Your creatures inhabited it;
You (BS)established it in Your goodness for the poor, O God.

11 The Lord gives the word;
The (BT)women who proclaim the good news are a great host:
12 (BU)Kings of armies retreat, they retreat,
And she who remains at home will (BV)divide the spoil!”
13 If you men lie down (BW)among the [x]sheepfolds,
You all would be like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And its pinions with glistening gold.
14 When the Almighty (BX)dispersed the kings [y]there,
It was snowing in (BY)Zalmon.

15 A [z](BZ)mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan;
A mountain of many peaks is the mountain of Bashan.
16 Why do you look with envy, O mountains with many peaks,
At the mountain which God has (CA)prized for His habitation?
Surely (CB)Yahweh will dwell there forever.
17 The (CC)chariots of God are [aa]myriads, (CD)thousands upon thousands;
[ab]The Lord is among them as at Sinai, in holiness.
18 You have (CE)ascended on high, You have (CF)led captive Your captives;
You have received gifts among men,
Even among the rebellious also, that Yah—God—may dwell there.

19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily (CG)bears our burden,
(CH)The God who is our salvation. Selah.
20 God is to us a (CI)God of [ac]salvation;
And (CJ)to Yahweh the Lord belong escapes [ad]from death.
21 Surely God will (CK)crush the head of His enemies,
The hairy [ae]skull of him who goes on in his guilty deeds.
22 The Lord [af]said, “(CL)I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea;
23 That [ag](CM)your foot may crush them in blood,
The tongue of your (CN)dogs may have its portion from your enemies.”

24 They have seen (CO)Your [ah]procession, O God,
The [ai]procession of my God, my King, [aj](CP)into the sanctuary.
25 The (CQ)singers went on, the musicians after them,
[ak]In the midst of the (CR)maidens beating tambourines.
26 (CS)Bless God in the congregations,
Yahweh, the (CT)fountain of Israel.
27 There is (CU)Benjamin, the [al]youngest, [am]having dominion over them,
The princes of Judah in their throng,
The princes of (CV)Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.

28 [an]Your God has (CW)commanded your strength;
Show Yourself strong, O God, (CX)who has worked [ao]on our behalf.
29 [ap]Because of Your temple at Jerusalem
(CY)Kings will bring gifts to You.
30 Rebuke the (CZ)beast [aq]in the reeds,
The herd of (DA)bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Trampling under foot the pieces of silver;
He has (DB)cast out the peoples who delight in war.
31 Envoys will come out of (DC)Egypt;
[ar](DD)Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.

32 Sing to God, O (DE)kingdoms of the earth,
(DF)Sing praises to the Lord, Selah.
33 To Him who (DG)rides upon the [as](DH)highest heavens, which are from ancient times;
Behold, (DI)He gives forth His voice, a (DJ)voice that is strong.
34 (DK)Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel
And (DL)His strength is in the [at]skies.
35 [au]O God, You are (DM)awesome from Your [av]sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself (DN)gives strength and might to the people.
(DO)Blessed be God!

Save Me, O God

For the choir director. According to [aw]Shoshannim. Of David.

69 Save me, O God,
For the (DP)waters have [ax]threatened my life.
I have sunk in deep (DQ)clay, and there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters, and a [ay](DR)flood overflows me.
I am (DS)weary with my calling out; my throat is parched;
My (DT)eyes fail while I wait for my God.
Those (DU)who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head;
Those who would [az]destroy me (DV)are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies;
(DW)What I did not steal, I then have to restore.

O God, it is You who knows (DX)my folly,
And [ba](DY)all my guilt is not hidden from You.
May those who hope for You not (DZ)be ashamed through me, O Lord Yahweh of hosts;
May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel,
Because (EA)for Your sake I have borne reproach;
(EB)Dishonor has covered my face.
I have become (EC)estranged [bb]from my brothers
And a foreigner to my mother’s sons.
For (ED)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And (EE)the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
10 When I wept (EF)in my soul with fasting,
It became my reproach.
11 When I made (EG)sackcloth my clothing,
I became (EH)a byword to them.
12 Those who (EI)dwell at the gate moan about me,
And I am (EJ)the drunkards’ songs.

13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Yahweh, (EK)at an acceptable time;
O God, in the (EL)abundance of Your lovingkindness,
Answer me with the truth of Your salvation.
14 Deliver me from the (EM)mire and do not let me sink;
May I be (EN)delivered from [bc]my foes and from the [bd](EO)deep waters.
15 May the [be](EP)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the (EQ)pit shut its mouth on me.

16 Answer me, O Yahweh, for (ER)Your lovingkindness is good;
(ES)According to the abundance of Your compassion, (ET)turn to me,
17 And (EU)do not hide Your face from Your slave,
For I am (EV)in distress; answer me quickly.
18 Oh draw near to my soul and (EW)redeem it;
(EX)Ransom me because of my enemies!
19 You know my (EY)reproach and my shame and my dishonor;
All my adversaries are [bf]before You.

20 Reproach has (EZ)broken my heart and I am so sick.
And (FA)I hoped for sympathy, but there was none,
And for (FB)comforters, but I found none.
21 They also gave me [bg](FC)gall [bh]for my food
And for my thirst they (FD)gave me vinegar to drink.

22 May (FE)their table before them become a snare;
And [bi](FF)when they are in peace, may it become a trap.
23 May their (FG)eyes darken so that they cannot see,
And make their (FH)loins quake continually.
24 (FI)Pour out Your indignation on them,
And may Your burning anger overtake them.
25 May their [bj](FJ)camp be desolate;
May none dwell in their tents.
26 For they have (FK)persecuted him whom (FL)You Yourself have struck down,
And they recount the pain of those whom (FM)You have [bk]wounded.
27 Add (FN)iniquity to their iniquity,
And (FO)may they not come into (FP)Your righteousness.
28 May they be (FQ)blotted out of the (FR)book of life
And may they not be [bl](FS)recorded with the righteous.

29 But I am (FT)afflicted and in pain;
[bm]May Your salvation, O God, (FU)set me securely on high.
30 I will (FV)praise the name of God with song
And (FW)magnify Him with (FX)thanksgiving.
31 And this will (FY)please Yahweh better than an ox
Or a young bull with horns and hoofs.
32 The (FZ)humble [bn]see it and are glad;
You who seek God, (GA)let your heart [bo]revive.
33 For (GB)Yahweh hears the needy
And (GC)does not despise His who are prisoners.

34 Let (GD)heaven and earth praise Him,
The seas and (GE)everything that moves in them.
35 For God will (GF)save Zion and (GG)build the cities of Judah,
That they may dwell there and (GH)possess it.
36 The (GI)seed of His slaves will inherit it,
And those who love His name (GJ)will dwell in it.
