Beginning
4 Afterward, the man knew Eve, his wife. Who conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have obtained a man by the LORD.”
2 And again, she brought forth his brother, Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep; and Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time, it happened that Cain brought an oblation to the LORD from the fruit of the ground.
4 And Abel also brought one from the firstfruits of his sheep (and from the fat of them). And the LORD had respect toward Abel, and to his offering.
5 But to Cain and to his offering He had no regard. Therefore, Cain was exceedingly angry; and his face was cast down.
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why is your face cast down?
7 “If you do well, shall you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. Also, his desire shall be subject to you; and you shall rule over him.”
8 Then Cain spoke to Abel, his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.
9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He answered, “I cannot tell. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 Again He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the earth.
11 “Therefore, you are now cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
12 “From now on, when you shall till the ground, it shall not yield her strength to you. A vagabond and a fugitive shall you be on the Earth.”
13 Then Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 “Behold, You have cast me out from the Earth today. And I shall be hidden from Your face and shall be a vagabond and a fugitive on the Earth. And whoever finds me shall kill me.”
15 Then the LORD said to him, “Doubtless, whoever kills Cain, he shall be punished sevenfold.” And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any man finding him should kill him.
16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod, toward the east side of Eden.
17 Cain also knew his wife, who conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city and called the name of the city by the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And to Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begat Mehujael; and Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech.
19 ¶ And Lamech took to him two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bore Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in the tents, and of those who have cattle.
21 And his brother’s name was Jubal, who was the father of all who play on the harp and organs.
22 And Zillah also bore Tubal-Cain, who wrought cunningly every craft of brass and of iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
23 Then Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, “Hear my voice, you wives of Lamech. Listen my speech. For I would kill a man for wounding me, and a young man who hurts me.
24 “If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy times sevenfold.”
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son. And she called his name Seth. “For God,” said she, “has appointed another seed to me, to replace Abel, because Cain killed him.”
26 And to the same Seth there was also born a son. And he called his name “Enosh”. Then men began to call upon the Name of the LORD.
5 This is the Book of the Generations of Adam. On the day that God created Adam, He made him in the likeness of God.
2 He created them male and female, and blessed them, and called their name Adam on the day that they were created.
3 Now Adam lived a hundred and thirty years and begat a child in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth.
4 And the days of Adam, after he had begotten Seth, were eight hundred years; and he begat sons and daughters.
5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.
6 And Seth lived a hundred and five years and begat Enosh.
7 And after he begat Enosh, Seth lived eight hundred and seven years and begat sons and daughters.
8 So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died.
9 Also, Enosh lived ninety years and begat Cainan.
10 And after he begat Cainan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years and begat sons and daughters.
11 So, all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died.
12 Likewise, Cainan lived seventy years and begat Mahalalel.
13 And after he begat Mahalalel, Cainan lived eight hundred and forty years and begat sons and daughters.
14 So, all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died.
15 Mahalalel also lived sixty-five years and begat Jared.
16 Also, after he begat Jared, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years and begat sons and daughters.
17 So, all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred ninety-five years; and he died.
18 And Jared lived a hundred sixty-two years and begat Enoch.
19 Then, after he begat Enoch, Jared lived eight hundred years and begat sons and daughters.
20 So, all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty-two years; and he died.
21 Also, Enoch lived sixty-five years and begat Methuselah.
22 And, after he begat Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years and begat sons and daughters.
23 So, all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years.
24 And Enoch walked with God and he was no more; for God took him away.
25 Methuselah also lived a hundred eighty-seven years and begat Lamech.
26 And after he begat Lamech, Methuselah lived seven hundred eighty-two years and begat sons and daughters.
27 So, all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty-nine years; and he died.
28 Then, Lamech lived a hundred eighty-two years and begat a son,
29 and called his name, Noah, saying, “This same shall comfort us concerning the work and sorrow of our hands as touching the earth, which the LORD has cursed.”
30 And after he begat Noah, Lamech lived five hundred ninety and five years and begat sons and daughters.
31 So, all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy-seven years; and he died.
32 And Noah was five hundred years old; and Noah begat Shem, Ham and Japheth.
6 So when men began to be multiplied upon the Earth, and there were daughters born to them,
2 Then the sons of God saw the daughters of men (that they were fair) and they took wives of all whom they liked.
3 Therefore the LORD said, “My spirit shall not always strive with man, because he is but flesh. And his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.”
4 There were giants on the Earth in those days—and also after that—when the sons of God came into the daughters of men, and children had been borne to them. These were mighty men, who, in old time, were men of renown.
5 When the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the Earth (and all the imaginations of the thoughts of his heart were only evil continually),
6 then it caused the LORD to regret that He had made man on the Earth; and He was sorry in His heart.
7 Therefore the LORD said, “I will destroy the man whom I have created from off the Earth— from man to beast to the creeping thing and to the birds of the heaven — for I regret that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and upright man in his time. Noah walked with God.
10 And Noah begat three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 The Earth was also corrupt before God; for the Earth was filled with cruelty.
12 Then God looked upon the Earth; and behold, it was corrupt. For all flesh had corrupted its way upon the Earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “An end of all flesh has come before Me; for the Earth is filled with cruelty through them. And behold, I will destroy them with the Earth.
14 “Make an Ark of gopher wood. You shall make cabins in the Ark and shall cover it inside and outside with a coating.
15 “And thus shall you make it: the length of the Ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16 “You shall make a window in the Ark, and you shall finish it above in a cubit; and you shall set the door of the Ark in the side thereof. You shall make it with the low, second, and third room.
17 “And I, behold, I will bring a Flood of waters upon the Earth, to destroy all flesh wherein is the breath of life under Heaven. All that is on the Earth shall perish.
18 But I will establish My covenant with you. And you shall go into the Ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
19 “And you shall cause two of every sort of every living thing (of all flesh) to come into the Ark, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
20 Of the birds after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come to you; so that you may keep them alive.
21 “And take with you all food that is eaten. And you shall gather it; so that it may be food for you and for them.”
22 Therefore, Noah did as God commanded him. So did he.
7 And the LORD said to Noah, “Enter into the Ark, and all your house; for you have I seen righteous before me in this age.
2 “You shall take seven pairs of every clean beast (the male and his female), but of unclean beasts by couples (the male and his female).
3 “Also, take the birds of the heaven by sevens (male and female), to keep seed alive upon the whole Earth.
4 “For in seven days I will cause it to rain upon the Earth for forty days and forty nights. And I will destroy all the substance that I have made from off the Earth.”
5 Therefore, Noah did according to all that the LORD commanded him.
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the Flood of waters was upon the Earth.
7 So, Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered into the Ark with him, because of the waters of the Flood.
8 Of the clean beasts and of the unclean beasts and of the birds and of all that creeps upon the Earth,
9 there came to Noah (two by two, male and female) into the Ark, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And so, after seven days, the waters of the Flood were upon the Earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up; and the windows of Heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the Earth forty days and forty nights.
13 On the same day, Noah entered into the Ark with Shem and Ham and Japheth (the sons of Noah) and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons,
14 they and every wild animal after its kind and all cattle after their kind and everything that creeps and moves upon the Earth, after its kind, and every bird after its kind (every bird of every feather).
15 For those of all flesh wherein is the breath of life came to Noah, into the Ark, two by two.
16 And entering in, male and female of all flesh came, as God had commanded. And the LORD shut him in.
17 Then the Flood was upon the Earth for forty days; and the waters were increased and bore up the Ark, which was lifted up above the Earth.
18 The waters also grew strong and were increased exceedingly upon the Earth; and the Ark went upon the waters.
19 The waters prevailed so exceedingly upon the Earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered.
20 Fifteen cubits and more did the waters rise up after the mountains were covered.
21 Then, all flesh that moved upon the Earth perished, birds and cattle and wild animals and everything that crept and moved upon the Earth, and every man.
22 Everything in whose nostrils the spirit of life breathed, whatever they were on the dry land, they died.
23 So, He destroyed everything that was upon the Earth, from man to beast to the creeping thing and to the bird of the heaven. They were all destroyed from the Earth. And only Noah remained, and those who were with him in the Ark.
24 And the waters prevailed upon the Earth a hundred and fifty days.
