I will declare all your wondrous works.(A)
2 I will rejoice and boast about you;(B)
I will sing about your name, Most High.(C)
3 When my enemies retreat,
they stumble and perish before you.(D)
4 For you have upheld my just cause;(E)
you are seated on your throne as a righteous judge.(F)
5 You have rebuked the nations:(G)
You have destroyed the wicked;(H)
you have erased their name forever and ever.(I)
6 The enemy has come to eternal ruin;
you have uprooted the cities,
and the very memory of them has perished.(J)
7 But the Lord sits enthroned forever;(K)
he has established his throne for judgment.(L)
8 And he judges the world with righteousness;
he executes judgment on the nations with fairness.(M)
9 The Lord is a refuge for the persecuted,
a refuge in times of trouble.(N)
10 Those who know your name trust in you

those who seek you, Lord.(O)

proclaim his deeds among the nations.(Q)
12 For the one who seeks an accounting
for bloodshed remembers them;(R)
he does not forget the cry of the oppressed.(S)
13 Be gracious to me, Lord;
consider my affliction at the hands of those who hate me.(T)
Lift me up from the gates of death,(U)
14 so that I may declare all your praises.
I will rejoice in your salvation(V)

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they made;
their foot is caught in the net they have concealed.(W)

Psalm 15
A Description of the Godly
A psalm of David.
2 The one who lives blamelessly, practices righteousness,
and acknowledges the truth in his heart(C)—
3 who does not slander with his tongue,(D)
who does not harm his friend
or discredit his neighbor,(E)
4 who despises the one rejected by the Lord[a]
but honors those who fear the Lord,(F)
who keeps his word whatever the cost,(G)
5 who does not lend his silver at interest(H)
or take a bribe against the innocent(I)—
the one who does these things will never be shaken.(J)
5 David marched out with the army and was successful in everything Saul sent him to do. Saul put him in command of the fighting men, which pleased all the people and Saul’s servants as well.
6 As the troops were coming back, when David was returning from killing the Philistine, the women came out from all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul,(A) singing and dancing with tambourines, with shouts of joy, and with three-stringed instruments. 7 As they danced, the women sang:
Saul has killed his thousands,
but David his tens of thousands.(B)
8 Saul was furious and resented this song. “They credited tens of thousands to David,” he complained, “but they only credited me with thousands. What more can he have but the kingdom?” (C) 9 So Saul watched David jealously from that day forward.
Saul Attempts to Kill David
10 The next day an evil spirit sent from God came powerfully on Saul,(D) and he began to rave[a] inside the palace. David was playing the lyre as usual,(E) but Saul was holding a spear,(F) 11 and he threw it, thinking, “I’ll pin David to the wall.”(G) But David got away from him twice.
12 Saul was afraid of David,(H) because the Lord was with David(I) but had left Saul.(J) 13 Therefore, Saul sent David away from him and made him commander over a thousand men. David led the troops(K) 14 and continued to be successful in all his activities because the Lord was with him.(L) 15 When Saul observed that David was very successful, he dreaded him. 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David(M) because he was leading their troops.
27 David and his men went out and killed two hundred[a] Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as full payment to the king to become his son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David as his wife.(A) 28 Saul realized[b] that the Lord was with David and that his daughter Michal loved him, 29 and he became even more afraid of David. As a result, Saul was David’s enemy from then on.
30 Every time the Philistine commanders came out to fight,(B) David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers.(C) So his name became well known.
The Church in Antioch
19 Now those who had been scattered as a result of the persecution that started because of Stephen made their way as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch,(A) speaking the word to no one except Jews. 20 But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks[a] also, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.(B) 21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.(C) 22 News about them reached[b] the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to travel[c] as far as Antioch. 23 When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged all of them to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts,(D) 24 for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit(E) and of faith. And large numbers of people were added(F) to the Lord.
25 Then he went to Tarsus to search for Saul, 26 and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught large numbers. The disciples(G) were first called Christians at Antioch.(H)
Famine Relief
27 In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.(I) 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and predicted by the Spirit that there would be a severe famine throughout the Roman world.[d] This took place during the reign of Claudius.(J) 29 Each of the disciples, according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brothers and sisters who lived in Judea.(K) 30 They did this, sending it to the elders(L) by means of Barnabas and Saul.
Healings at Capernaum
29 As(A) soon as they left the synagogue,(B) they went into Simon(C) and Andrew’s(D) house(E) with James(F) and John.(G) 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was lying in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31 So he went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up.(H) The fever(I) left her,[a] and she began to serve(J) them.(K)
32 When(L) evening came, after the sun had set, they brought to him all those who were sick(M) and demon-possessed.(N) 33 The whole town was assembled at the door, 34 and he healed(O) many who were sick with various diseases(P) and drove out(Q) many demons.(R) And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.(S)
Preaching in Galilee
35 Very(T) early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up, went out, and made his way to a deserted place;(U) and there he was praying.(V) 36 Simon(W) and his companions searched for him, 37 and when they found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
38 And he said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach(X) there too. This is why I have come.”
A Man Cleansed
39 He went into all of Galilee,(Y) preaching in their synagogues(Z) and driving out demons. 40 Then(AA) a man with leprosy[b](AB) came to him and, on his knees,[c](AC) begged him, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”(AD) 41 Moved with compassion,[d](AE) Jesus reached out his hand and touched(AF) him. “I am willing,” he told him. “Be made clean.” 42 Immediately the leprosy(AG) left him, and he was made clean. 43 Then he sternly warned(AH) him and sent him away(AI) at once, 44 telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone;(AJ) but go and show(AK) yourself to the priest,(AL) and offer(AM) what Moses commanded for your cleansing,(AN) as a testimony(AO) to them.”[e] 45 Yet he went out and began to proclaim(AP) it widely and to spread the news,(AQ) with the result that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. But he was out in deserted places, and they came to him from everywhere.
