Psalm 119:97-120

MEM.

97 ¶ O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

98 ¶ Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies, for they are eternal unto me.

99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies have been my meditation.

100 I understand more than the elders because I keep thy precepts.

101 ¶ I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

102 ¶ I have not departed from thy judgments, for thou hast taught me.

103 ¶ How sweet have been thy spoken words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 Through thy precepts I have obtained understanding; therefore I have hated every false way.

NUN.

105 ¶ Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my way.

106 ¶ I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep the judgments of thy righteousness.

107 ¶ I am afflicted very much; cause me to live, O LORD, according to thy word.

108 ¶ Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, and teach me thy judgments.

109 ¶ My soul is continually in my hand; yet I do not forget thy law.

110 The wicked have laid a snare for me; yet did not I err from thy precepts.

111 ¶ I have taken thy testimonies as a heritage for ever; for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

112 I have inclined my heart to perform thy statutes always, even unto the end.

SAMECH.

113 ¶ I hate vain thoughts; but I love thy law.

114 ¶ Thou art my hiding place and my shield; I have waited for thy word.

115 ¶ Depart from me, ye evildoers; for I will keep the commandments of my God.

116 ¶ Uphold me according unto thy word, and I shall live; and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

117 Hold me up, and I shall be saved, and I shall delight in thy statutes continually.

118 ¶ Thou hast trodden down all those that err from thy statutes; for their deceit is falsehood.

119 Thou dost cause all the wicked of the earth to come undone like dross; therefore I have loved thy testimonies.

120 My flesh trembles for fear of thee, and I am afraid of thy judgments.

Psalm 81-82

To the Overcomer upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph.

¶ Sing aloud unto God our strength; make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

Take the song and play the timbrel, the harp of joy with the psaltery.

Blow the shofar in the new moon in the time appointed on our solemn feast day.

For this is a statute of Israel and an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt where I heard a language that I did not understand.

I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were delivered from working with clay.

Thou didst call in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

¶ Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee; O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me,

no strange god shall be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

10 I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt; open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 But my people did not hearken to my voice, and Israel did not love me.

12 So I gave them up unto the hardness of their heart, and they walked in their own counsels.

13 Oh, if my people would hearken unto me and Israel would walk in my ways!

14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their adversaries.

15 The haters of the LORD would have submitted themselves unto him, and their time would endure for ever.

16 And God would have fed them also the finest of the wheat, and with honey out of the rock I would have satisfied thee.

A Psalm of Asaph.

¶ God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods.

How long will ye judge unjustly and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

Do right concerning the poor and fatherless; do justice to the poor and destitute.

Deliver the poor and destitute; deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

They do not know, neither do they understand; they walk in darkness; they move all the foundations of the earth.

¶ I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are sons of the most High.

But ye shall die like men and fall like one of the tyrants.

Arise, O God, judge the earth, for thou shalt inherit all the Gentiles.

1 Samuel 2:12-26

12 But the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they did not know the LORD.

13 It was the priests’ custom with the people that when anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come, while the flesh was being boiled, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

14 and he would strike it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot, and all that the fleshhook brought up, the priest took for himself. Thus would they do in Shiloh to all the Israelites that went there.

15 Likewise, before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, for he will not take cooked flesh of thee, but raw.

16 And if the man would say unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat today and then take as much as thy soul desires, then he would answer him, No, but thou shalt give it to me now, and if not, I will take it by force.

17 Therefore, the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for men despised the present of the LORD.

18 But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat and brought it to him each year when she came up with her husband to offer the accustomed sacrifice.

20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

21 And the LORD visited Hannah so that she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

22 Now Eli was very old and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel and how they lay with the women that served at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony.

23 And he said unto them, Why do ye do such things? For I hear from all the people of your evil dealings.

24 No, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear that ye cause the people of the LORD to transgress.

25 If one man sins against another, the judges shall judge him, but if someone sins against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they did not hearken unto the voice of their father because the LORD had already decided to kill them.

26 And the child Samuel kept on growing and was in favour both with the LORD and also with men.

Acts 2:1-21

¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¶ (And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.)

Now at this sound, the multitude came together and were confounded because each one heard them speak in his own tongue.

And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who speak Galilaeans?

And how do we hear each one speak in our own tongue, with which we were brought up?

Parthians and Medes and Elamites and the dwellers in Mesopotamia and in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and Arabians, we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, What does this mean?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 ¶ Then Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea and all ye that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you and hearken to my words;

15 for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

18 and for certain on my slaves and on my handmaids I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy;

19 and I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke;

20 the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before that great and notable day of the Lord shall come;

21 and it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Luke 20:27-40

27 ¶ Then certain of the Sadducees came, who deny that there is any resurrection, and they asked him,

28 saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he dies without children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

29 There were therefore seven brethren, and the first took a wife and died without children.

30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also, and they left no children and died.

32 Last of all the woman died also.

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be? for seven had her to wife.

34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,

35 but those who are accounted worthy to obtain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry, nor are given in marriage;

36 for neither can they die any more, for they are equal unto the angels and are the sons of God, being the sons of the resurrection.

37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed this at the bush when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for all live unto him.

39 ¶ Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.

40 And after that they dared not ask him any question at all.
