Psalm 85

Hope in God’s Future Help

For the music director. Of the sons of Korah. A psalm.[a]

85 O Yahweh, you favored your land.
You restored the fortunes[b] of Jacob.
You took away the guilt[c] of your people;
you covered all their sin. Selah
You withdrew all your wrath;
you turned from your burning anger.
Restore us, O God of our salvation,
and annul your vexation with us.
Will you be angry against us forever?
Will you prolong your anger generation after generation?
Will you not again revive us,
that your people might rejoice in you?
Show us, O Yahweh, your loyal love,
and grant us your salvation.
I will hear what God, Yahweh, will speak,
because he will speak peace
to his people, even his faithful ones,[d]
but let them not return to folly.
Surely his salvation is near for those who fear him,
that glory may abide in our land.
10 Loyal love and faithfulness[e] will meet one another;
righteousness and peace will kiss.
11 Faithfulness[f] will sprout from the ground,
and righteousness will look down from heaven.
12 Yes, Yahweh will give what is good,
and our land will give its produce.
13 Righteousness will go before him,
and it will make his steps a pathway.

Psalm 87

Foreign Nations Come to Worship in Jerusalem

Of the sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.[a]

87 His foundation is on the holy mountains.
Yahweh loves the gates of Zion
more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
Glorious things are spoken about[b] you,
O city of God. Selah
I will record[c] those who know me
in Rahab[d] and Babylon,
behold in Philistia and Tyre with Cush,
“This one was born there.”
But with respect to Zion it shall be said,
Each one[e] was born in her,”
for the Most High himself will establish her.
Yahweh will record in writing the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah
And while dancing, singers will sing,
“All my springs are in you.”

Psalm 136

Praise to God for His Creation and Deliverance

136 Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good,
for his loyal love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his loyal love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his loyal love endures forever.
To him who alone does great wonders,
for his loyal love endures forever.
To him who made the heavens with skill,[a]
for his loyal love endures forever.
To him who spread out the earth above the waters,
for his loyal love endures forever.
To him who made the great lights,
for his loyal love endures forever.
The sun to rule the day,
for his loyal love endures forever.
The moon and stars to rule the night,
for his loyal love endures forever.
10 To him who struck Egypt through their firstborn,
for his loyal love endures forever.
11 And he brought Israel out from among them,
for his loyal love endures forever.
12 With a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
for his loyal love endures forever.
13 To him who divided the Red Sea[b] in two,
for his loyal love endures forever.
14 And he let Israel cross over through the midst of it,
for his loyal love endures forever.
15 But he tossed Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea,[c]
for his loyal love endures forever.
16 To him who led his people through the wilderness,
for his loyal love endures forever.
17 To him who struck great kings,
for his loyal love endures forever.
18 And he killed mighty kings,
for his loyal love endures forever.
19 Sihon the king of the Amorites,
for his loyal love endures forever.
20 And Og the king of Bashan,
for his loyal love endures forever.
21 And he gave their land as an inheritance,
for his loyal love endures forever.
22 An inheritance to Israel his servant,
for his loyal love endures forever.
23 Who remembered us in our low estate,
for his loyal love endures forever.
24 And he rescued us from our enemies,
for his loyal love endures forever.
25 The one who gives food to all flesh,
for his loyal love endures forever.
26 Give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his loyal love endures forever.

Exodus 3:1-12

Yahweh’s Plan to Rescue the Israelites

And Moses was a shepherd with the flock[a] of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the west of the desert, and he came to the mountain of God, to Horeb. And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, and he looked, and there was the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not being consumed. And Moses said, “Let me turn aside and see this great sight. Why does the bush not burn up?” And Yahweh saw that he turned aside to see, and God called to him from the midst of the bush, and he said, “Moses, Moses.” And he said, “Here I am.” And he said, “You must not come near to here. Take off your sandals from on your feet, because the place on which you are standing, it is holy ground.” And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.

And Yahweh said, “Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings. And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites[b] and the Hittites[c] and the Amorites[d] and the Perizzites[e] and the Hivites[f] and the Jebusites.[g] And now, look, the cry of distress of the Israelites[h] has come to me, and also I see the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 And now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, and you must bring my people, the Israelites,[i] out from Egypt.”

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites[j] out from Egypt?” 12 And he said, “Because I am with you, and this will be the sign for you that I myself have sent you: When you bring the people out from Egypt, you will serve God on this mountain.”

Hebrews 11:23-31

23 By faith Moses, when he[a] was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw the child was handsome, and they were not afraid of the edict of the king. 24 By faith Moses, when he[b] was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing instead to be mistreated with the people of God rather than to experience the transitory enjoyment of sin, 26 considering reproach endured for the sake of Christ[c] greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the anger of the king, for he persevered as if he[d] saw the invisible one. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, in order that the one who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. 29 By faith they crossed the Red Sea as if on dry land; the Egyptians, when they made the attempt[e], were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they[f] had been marched around for seven days. 31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she[g] welcomed the spies in peace.

John 14:6-14

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known[a] my Father also. From now on[b] you know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if not, believe because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in me, the works that I am doing he will do also, and he will do greater works[c] than these because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatever[d] you ask in my name, I will do this, in order that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.[e]
