Book of Common Prayer
I Will Praise Yahweh Throughout My Life
146 [a]Praise Yah!
(A)Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
2 I will praise Yahweh (B)throughout my life;
I will (C)sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 (D)Do not trust in nobles,
In merely a son of (E)man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
4 His (G)spirit departs, he (H)returns to [b]the earth;
In that very day his (I)plans perish.
5 How (J)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (K)hope is in Yahweh his God,
6 Who (L)made heaven and earth,
The (M)sea and all that is in them;
Who (N)keeps truth forever;
7 Who (O)does justice for the oppressed;
Who (P)gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh (Q)sets the prisoners free.
8 Yahweh (R)opens the eyes of the blind;
Yahweh (S)raises up those who are bowed down;
Yahweh (T)loves the righteous;
9 Yahweh (U)keeps the sojourners;
He [c](V)helps up the orphan and the widow,
But He bends (W)the way of the wicked.
10 Yahweh will (X)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, [d]from generation to generation.
[e]Praise Yah!
He Heals the Brokenhearted
147 [f]Praise Yah!
For (Y)it is good to sing praises to our God;
For [g]it is pleasant and praise is (Z)becoming.
2 Yahweh (AA)builds up Jerusalem;
He (AB)gathers the [h]outcasts of Israel.
3 He is the One who heals the (AC)brokenhearted
And who (AD)binds up their [i]wounds,
4 Who (AE)counts the number of the stars;
He [j](AF)gives names to all of them.
5 (AG)Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
His (AH)discernment is [k]infinite.
6 Yahweh [l](AI)helps up the afflicted;
He brings down the wicked to the ground.
7 (AJ)Sing to Yahweh with thanksgiving;
Sing praises to our God on the lyre.
8 He is the One who (AK)covers the heavens with clouds,
The One who (AL)provides rain for the earth,
The One who (AM)makes grass to sprout on the mountains,
9 Who (AN)gives to the animal its food,
And to the (AO)young ravens which call out.
10 He does not delight in the might of the (AP)horse;
He (AQ)does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 Yahweh (AR)is pleased with those who fear Him,
(AS)Those who wait for His lovingkindness.
12 Laud Yahweh, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He strengthened the (AT)bars of your gates;
He (AU)blessed your sons within you.
14 He is the One who (AV)sets [m]peace in your borders,
He (AW)satisfies you with (AX)the [n]finest of the wheat,
15 The One who sends forth His (AY)command to the earth;
His (AZ)word runs very swiftly,
16 The One who gives (BA)snow like wool;
He scatters the (BB)frost like ashes,
17 Who casts forth His (BC)ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His (BD)cold?
18 He (BE)sends forth His word and melts them;
He (BF)causes His wind to blow and so the waters flow,
19 Who (BG)declares His words to Jacob,
His (BH)statutes and His judgments to Israel.
20 He (BI)has not done so with any nation;
So as for His judgments, they have (BJ)not known them.
[o]Praise Yah!

And lifts high the needy from the ash heap,
8 To make them (AZ)sit with [t]nobles,
With the [u]nobles of His people.
9 He (BA)makes the barren woman of the house sit
As a glad mother of children.
[v]Praise Yah!
Yahweh’s Case Against His People
6 [a](A)Listen now to what Yahweh is saying,
“Arise, plead your case [b]before the mountains,
And let the hills [c](B)listen to your voice.
2 [d](C)Listen, you mountains, to the case of Yahweh,
And you enduring (D)foundations of the earth,
Because (E)Yahweh has a case against His people;
Even with Israel He will reprove.
3 (F)My people, (G)what have I done to you,
And (H)how have I wearied you? Answer Me.
4 Indeed, I (I)brought you up from the land of Egypt
And (J)ransomed you from the house of slavery,
And I sent before you (K)Moses, Aaron, and (L)Miriam.
5 My people, remember now
What (M)Balak king of Moab counseled
And what Balaam son of Beor answered him,
And from (N)Shittim to (O)Gilgal,
So [e]that you might know the (P)righteous acts of Yahweh.”
What Yahweh Requires
6 (Q)With what shall I come before Yahweh
And bow myself before the God on high?
Shall I come before Him with (R)burnt offerings,
With yearling calves?
7 Is Yahweh pleased with (S)thousands of rams,
With ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I give my (T)firstborn for my transgression,
The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has (U)told you, O man, what is good;
And (V)what does Yahweh require of you
But to (W)do justice, to (X)love lovingkindness,
And to walk [f](Y)humbly with your God?
9 For, I think that God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men (A)condemned to death, because we (B)have become a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. 10 We are (C)fools for the sake of Christ, but (D)you are prudent in Christ! (E)We are weak, but you are strong! You are glorious, but we are without honor! 11 To this present hour we (F)hunger and thirst, and are poorly clothed, and roughly treated, and homeless; 12 and we labor, (G)working with our own hands; when we are (H)reviled, we bless; when we are (I)persecuted, we endure; 13 when we are slandered, we try to plead; we have (J)become as the scum of the world, the grime of all things, even until now.
14 I do not write these things to (K)shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved (L)children. 15 For if you were to have countless (M)tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in (N)Christ Jesus I (O)became your father through the (P)gospel. 16 Therefore I exhort you, be (Q)imitators of me.
The Canaanite Woman
21 (A)And going away from there, Jesus withdrew into the district of (B)Tyre and (C)Sidon. 22 And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, (D)Son of David; my daughter is cruelly (E)demon-possessed.” 23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and were pleading with Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting [a]at us.” 24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to (F)the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and [b](G)was bowing down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26 And He answered and said, “It is not [c]good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 But she said, “Yes, Lord; [d]but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, (H)your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed [e]at once.
