Names of God Bible (NOG)
Version
Psalm 119:49-72

49 Remember the word you gave me.
Through it you gave me hope.
50 This is my comfort in my misery:
Your promise gave me a new life.
51 Arrogant people have mocked me with cruelty,
yet I have not turned away from your teachings.
52 I remembered your regulations from long ago, O Yahweh,
and I found comfort in them.
53 I am burning with anger because of wicked people,
    who abandon your teachings.
54 Your laws have become like psalms to me
in this place where I am only a foreigner.
55 At night I remember your name, O Yahweh,
    and I follow your teachings.
56 This has happened to me
because I have obeyed your guiding principles.

57 You are my inheritance, O Yahweh.
I promised to hold on to your words.
58 With all my heart I want to win your favor.
Be kind to me as you promised.
59 I have thought about my life,
and I have directed my feet back to your written instructions.
60 Without any hesitation I hurry to obey your commandments.
61 Though the ropes of wicked people are tied around me,
    I never forget your teachings.
62 At midnight I wake up to give thanks to you
for the regulations, which are based on your righteousness.
63 I am a friend to everyone who fears you
and to everyone who follows your guiding principles.
64 Your mercy, O Yahweh, fills the earth.
    Teach me your laws.

65 You have treated me well, O Yahweh,
    as you promised.
66 Teach me to use good judgment and knowledge,
because I believe in your commandments.
67 Before you made me suffer, I used to wander off,
but now I hold on to your word.
68 You are good, and you do good things.
    Teach me your laws.
69 Arrogant people have smeared me with lies,
yet I obey your guiding principles with all my heart.
70 Their hearts are cold and insensitive,
yet I am happy with your teachings.
71 It was good that I had to suffer
in order to learn your laws.
72 The teachings that come from your mouth are worth more to me
than thousands in gold or silver.

Psalm 49

Psalm 49

For the choir director; a psalm by Korah’s descendants.

Listen to this, all you people.
Open your ears, all who live in the world—
common people and important ones,
    rich people and poor ones.
My mouth will speak wise sayings,
the insights I have carefully considered.
I will turn my attention to a proverb.
I will explain my riddle with the music of a lyre.
Why should I be afraid in times of trouble,
when slanderers surround me with evil?
        They trust their riches
and brag about their abundant wealth.

No one can ever buy back another person
or pay Elohim a ransom for his life.
The price to be paid for his soul is too costly.
            He must always give up
in order to live forever and never see the pit.

10 Indeed, one can see that wise people die,
that foolish and stupid people meet the same end.
They leave their riches to others.
11 Although they named their lands after themselves,
their graves[a] have become their homes for ages to come,
their dwelling places throughout every generation.

12 But mortals will not continue here with what they treasure.
They are like animals that die.

13 This is the final outcome for fools and their followers
who are delighted by what they say: Selah
14 Like sheep, they are driven to hell
    with death as their shepherd.
(Decent people will rule them in the morning.)
Their forms will decay in the grave,
far away from their comfortable homes.
15 But Elohim will buy me back from the power of hell
because he will take me. Selah
16 Do not be afraid when someone becomes rich,
when the greatness of his house increases.
17 He will not take anything with him when he dies.
    His greatness cannot follow him.
18 Even though he blesses himself while he is alive
(and they praise you when you do well for yourself),
19 he must join the generation of his ancestors,
who will never see light again.

20 Mortals, with what they treasure, still don’t have understanding.
They are like animals that die.

Psalm 53

Psalm 53[a]

For the choir director; according to mahalath,[b] a maskil by David.

Godless fools say in their hearts,
    “There is no Elohim.”
    They are corrupt.
    They do disgusting things.
There is no one who does good things.
Elohim looks down from heaven on Adam’s descendants
to see if there is anyone who acts wisely,
if there is anyone who seeks help from Elohim.
Everyone has fallen away.
Together they have become rotten to the core.
No one, not even one person, does good things.
Are all those troublemakers,
those who devour my people as if they were devouring food,
so ignorant that they do not call on Elohim?
There they are—panic-stricken—
but there was no reason to panic,
because Elohim has scattered the bones
of those who set up camp against you.[c]
    You put them to shame.
After all, Elohim has rejected them.

If only salvation for Israel would come from Zion!
When Elohim restores the fortunes of his people,
    Jacob will rejoice.
    Israel will be glad.

Job 29:1

Job Continues: My Glorious Past

29 Job continued his poems and said,

Job 30:1-2

Job Talks about His Present Misery

30 “But now those who are younger than I am laugh at me.
I didn’t think their fathers were fit to sit with the dogs of my flock.
Of what use to me was the strength of their hands?
    Their strength is gone.

Job 30:16-31

16 “Now my life is pouring out of me.
    Days of suffering seize me.
17 At night God pierces my bones.
    My body[a] doesn’t rest.
18 With great strength he grabs my clothes.
He seizes me by the collar of my robe.
19 He throws me into the dirt
so that I become like dust and ashes.

Job Calls on God for Help

20 “I call to you for help,
    but you don’t answer me.
I stand up, but you just look at me.
21 You have begun to treat me cruelly.
With your mighty hand you assault me.
22 You pick me up and let the wind carry me away.
You toss me around with a storm.
23 I know you will lead me to death,
to the dwelling place appointed for all living beings.

Job Says: I Am Being Punished by God

24 “But God doesn’t stretch out his hand against one who is ruined
when that person calls for help in his disaster.
25 Didn’t I cry for the person whose days were difficult?
Didn’t my soul grieve for the poor?
26 When I waited for good, evil came.
When I looked for light, darkness came.
27 My insides are churning and won’t calm down.
Days of misery are ahead of me.
28 I walk in the dark without the sun.
I stand up in public and call for help.
29 I’m a brother to jackals
    and a companion of ostriches.
30 My skin turns dark and peels.
    My body burns with fever.
31 So my lyre is used for mourning
and my flute for loud weeping.

Acts 14:19-28

19 However, Jews from the cities of Antioch and Iconium arrived in Lystra and won the people over. They tried to stone Paul to death and dragged him out of the city when they thought that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city.

Paul and Barnabas Return to Antioch in Syria

The next day Paul and Barnabas left for the city of Derbe. 21 They spread the Good News in that city and won many disciples. Then they went back to the cities of Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch (which is in Pisidia). 22 They strengthened the disciples in these cities and encouraged the disciples to remain faithful. Paul and Barnabas told them, “We must suffer a lot to enter the kingdom of God.” 23 They had the disciples in each church choose spiritual leaders,[a] and with prayer and fasting they entrusted the leaders to the Lord in whom they believed.

24 After they had gone through Pisidia, they went to Pamphylia. 25 They spoke the message in the city of Perga and went to the city of Attalia. 26 From Attalia they took a boat and headed home to the city of Antioch in Syria. (In Antioch they had been entrusted to God’s care[b] for the work they had now finished.) 27 When they arrived, they called the members of the church together. They reported everything God had done through them, especially that he had given people who were not Jewish the opportunity to believe. 28 They stayed for a long time with these disciples.

John 11:1-16

Jesus Brings Lazarus Back to Life

11 Lazarus, who lived in Bethany, the village where Mary and her sister Martha lived, was sick. (Mary was the woman who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. Her brother Lazarus was the one who was sick.)

So the sisters sent a messenger to tell Yeshua, “Lord, your close friend is sick.”

When Yeshua heard the message, he said, “His sickness won’t result in death. Instead, this sickness will bring glory to God so that the Son of God will receive glory through it.”

Yeshua loved Martha, her sister, and Lazarus. Yet, when Yeshua heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was for two more days.

Then, after the two days, Yeshua said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea.”

The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, not long ago the Jews wanted to stone you to death. Do you really want to go back there?”

Yeshua answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? Those who walk during the day don’t stumble, because they see the light of this world. 10 However, those who walk at night stumble because they have no light in themselves.”

11 After Yeshua said this, he told his disciples, “Our friend Lazarus is sleeping, and I’m going to Bethany to wake him.”

12 His disciples said to him, “Lord, if he’s sleeping, he’ll get well.”

13 Yeshua meant that Lazarus was dead, but the disciples thought Yeshua meant that Lazarus was only sleeping. 14 Then Yeshua told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, 15 but I’m glad that I wasn’t there so that you can grow in faith. Let’s go to Lazarus.”

16 Thomas, who was called Didymus, said to the rest of the disciples, “Let’s go so that we, too, can die with Yeshua.”
