Psalm 33

Praise to the Creator

Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones;
praise from the upright is beautiful.(A)
Praise the Lord with the lyre;
make music to him with a ten-stringed harp.(B)
Sing a new song to him;(C)
play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.(D)

For the word of the Lord is right,
and all his work is trustworthy.(E)
He loves righteousness and justice;(F)
the earth is full of the Lord’s unfailing love.(G)

The heavens were made by the word of the Lord,(H)
and all the stars, by the breath of his mouth.(I)
He gathers the water of the sea into a heap;[a]
he puts the depths into storehouses.(J)
Let the whole earth fear the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.(K)
For he spoke, and it came into being;
he commanded, and it came into existence.(L)

10 The Lord frustrates the counsel of the nations;
he thwarts the plans of the peoples.(M)
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
the plans of his heart from generation to generation.(N)
12 Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord
the people he has chosen to be his own possession!(O)

13 The Lord looks down from heaven;
he observes everyone.(P)
14 He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth
from his dwelling place.(Q)
15 He forms the hearts of them all;
he considers all their works.(R)
16 A king is not saved by a large army;
a warrior will not be rescued by great strength.(S)
17 The horse is a false hope for safety;
it provides no escape by its great power.(T)

18 But look, the Lord keeps his eye on those who fear him—
those who depend on his faithful love(U)
19 to rescue them from death
and to keep them alive in famine.(V)

20 We wait for the Lord;(W)
he is our help and shield.(X)
21 For our hearts rejoice in him(Y)
because we trust in his holy name.(Z)
22 May your faithful love rest on us, Lord,
for we put our hope in you.(AA)

James 5:7-10

Waiting for the Lord

Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.(A) You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.(B)

Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!(C)

10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name as an example of suffering and patience.

Psalm 107

Thanksgiving for God’s Deliverance

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.(A)
Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim
that he has redeemed them from the power of the foe(B)
and has gathered them from the lands—
from the east and the west,
from the north and the south.(C)

Some wandered in the desolate wilderness,
finding no way to a city where they could live.(D)
They were hungry and thirsty;
their spirits failed[a] within them.(E)
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he rescued them from their distress.(F)
He led them by the right path
to go to a city where they could live.(G)
Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(H)
For he has satisfied the thirsty
and filled the hungry with good things.(I)

10 Others sat in darkness and gloom[b]
prisoners in cruel chains(J)
11 because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the counsel of the Most High.(K)
12 He broke their spirits[c] with hard labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.(L)
13 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he saved them from their distress.(M)
14 He brought them out of darkness and gloom
and broke their chains apart.(N)

for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(O)

and cut through the iron bars.(P)

17 Fools suffered affliction
because of their rebellious ways and their iniquities.(Q)
18 They loathed all food
and came near the gates of death.(R)
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he saved them from their distress.(S)
20 He sent his word and healed them;
he rescued them from their traps.
21 Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(T)
22 Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices
and announce his works with shouts of joy.(U)

23 Others went to sea in ships,
conducting trade on the vast water.(V)
24 They saw the Lord’s works,
his wondrous works in the deep.(W)
25 He spoke and raised a stormy wind
that stirred up the waves of the sea.[d](X)
26 Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths,
their courage[e] melting away in anguish,(Y)
27 they reeled and staggered like a drunkard,
and all their skill was useless.(Z)
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.(AA)
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.(AB)
30 They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet.
Then he guided them to the harbor they longed for.(AC)

32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.(AE)

Revelation 21:1-7

The New Creation

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth;(A) for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,(B) and the sea was no more.(C) I also saw the holy city,(D) the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,(E) prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.(F)

Then I heard a loud voice(G) from the throne:[a](H) Look, God’s dwelling[b] is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples,[c](I) and God himself will be with them and will be their God.[d] He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.(J) Death will be no more;(K) grief, crying, and pain will be no more,(L) because the previous things[e] have passed away.(M)

Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words[f] are faithful and true.”(N) Then he said to me, “It is done!(O) I am the Alpha and the Omega,(P) the beginning and the end.(Q) I will freely give to the thirsty(R) from the spring of the water of life.(S) The one who conquers(T) will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son.(U)
