Book of Common Prayer
1 ¶ Halelu-JAH. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2 In my life I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises unto my God while I live.
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation.
4 His spirit shall go forth, he shall return to his earth; in that very day all his thoughts shall perish.
5 ¶ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God;
6 who made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is therein; who keeps truth for ever:
7 He who does justice unto the oppressed; who gives bread to the hungry. The LORD looses the prisoners:
8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD raises those that are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous:
9 The LORD preserves the strangers; he raises up the fatherless and widow; but the way of the wicked he turns upside down.
10 The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, from generation to generation. Halelu-JAH.
1 ¶ Halelu-JAH: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for praise is pleasant and beautiful.
2 The LORD, he who builds up Jerusalem; shall gather together the outcasts of Israel.
3 He heals the broken hearted, and he binds up their wounds.
4 He counts the number of the stars and calls them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord and of great power; his intelligence is infinite.
6 The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked down to the earth.
7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
8 Who covers the heavens with clouds, who prepares the rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains.
9 He who gives the beast his food and to the sons of the ravens which cry unto him.
10 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; nor does he take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The LORD takes pleasure in those that fear him, in those that wait upon his mercy.
12 ¶ Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
13 For he has strengthened the bars of thy gates; he has blessed thy sons within thee.
14 He who makes peace to be thy borders shall fill thee with the finest of the wheat.
15 He sends forth his word upon earth; his word runs very swiftly.
16 He who gives snow like wool scatters the hoarfrost like ashes.
17 He casts forth his ice like morsels; who can stand before his cold?
18 He shall send forth his word and melt them; his wind shall blow, and the waters shall flow.
19 He declares his words unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
20 He has not dealt so with the other nations, which have not known his judgments. Halelu-JAH.

1 ¶ Halelu-JAH. Praise, O ye slaves of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the LORD’s name is to be praised.
4 The LORD is high above all Gentiles and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwells on high,
6 who humbles himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth!
7 He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts the destitute out of the dunghill;
8 that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He makes the barren woman to keep house and to be a joyful mother of sons. Halelu-JAH.
24 ¶ And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.
2 For the king said to Joab, the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel from Dan unto Beersheba and number the people that I may know the number of the people.
10 ¶ And David’s heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in having done this; but now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy slave, for I have done very foolishly.
11 And in the morning when David had risen, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
12 Go and say unto David, Thus hath the LORD said, I offer thee three things: choose one of them, which I will do unto thee.
13 So Gad came to David and told him and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? Or wilt thou flee three months before thy enemies while they pursue thee? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in thy land? Now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
14 Then David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait; let us fall now into the hand of the LORD, for his mercies are great, and let me not fall into the hand of man.
15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the time appointed, and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD himself repented of that evil and said to the angel that was destroying the people, It is enough; stay now thy hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingfloor of Araunah, the Jebusite.
17 And David spoke unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people and said, I have sinned, I committed the iniquity, but these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me and against my father’s house.
18 ¶ And Gad came that day to David and said unto him, Go up, erect an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah, the Jebusite.
19 And David went up, according to the word of Gad, as the LORD had commanded him.
20 And Araunah looked and saw the king and his slaves coming on toward him, and Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.
21 And Araunah said, Why is my lord the king come to his slave? And David answered, To buy this threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
22 And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good unto him; behold, here are oxen for burnt sacrifice and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood;
23 all these things does king Araunah give unto the king. Then Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.
24 And the king said unto Araunah, No, but I will surely buy it of thee at a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which costs me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25 And David built there an altar unto the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
23 But before faith came, we were under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Therefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But when faith is come, we are no longer under the hand of the schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye are Christ’s, then ye are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
4 ¶ Now I say That the heir, as long as he is a child differs in nothing from a slave, though he be lord of all,
2 but is under the hand of tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in slavery under the elements of the world,
4 but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
5 to redeem those that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father;
7 therefore, thou art no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
12 ¶ Then Jesus spoke again unto them, saying, I AM the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.
13 Then the Pharisees said unto him, Thou dost bear witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.
14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear witness of myself, my witness is true, for I know from where I came and where I go; but ye do not know where I came from and where I go.
15 Ye judge after the flesh, but I judge no one.
16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
18 I AM one that bears witness of myself, and the Father that sent me bears witness of me.
19 Then they said unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father; if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20 Jesus spoke these words in the treasury as he taught in the temple, and no one laid hands on him, for his hour was not yet come.
