Book of Common Prayer
148 Praise the LORD from the heavens! Praise Him in the high places!
2 Praise Him, all His angels! Praise Him, all His army!
3 Praise Him, Sun and Moon! Praise Him, all bright stars!
4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, and waters above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the Name of the LORD; for He commanded, and they were created.
6 And He has established them forever and ever. He has made an ordinance which shall not pass.
7 Praise the LORD from the Earth, you dragons and all depths:
8 fire and hail, snow and vapors, stormy wind — which execute His Word —
9 mountains and all hills, fruitful trees, and all cedars,10 beasts and all cattle, creeping things and feathered birds,
11 kings of the Earth and all people, princes and all judges of the world,
12 young men and maidens, also old men and children.
13 Let them praise the Name of the LORD; for only His Name is to be exalted. His praise is above the Earth and the heavens.
14 For He has exalted the horn of His people — a praise for all His saints, for the children of Israel — a people that is near to Him. Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD.
149 Sing to the LORD a new song! Let His praise be heard in the congregation of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in Him Who made him; and let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
3 Let them praise His Name with the flute. Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD has pleasure in His people. He will make the meek glorious by deliverance.
5 Let the saints be joyful with glory! Let them sing loud upon their beds.
6 Let the high acts of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hands —
7 to execute vengeance upon the heathen and corrections among the people,
8 to bind their kings in chains and their nobles with fetters of iron —
9 so that they may execute upon them the judgment that is written. This honor shall be to all His saints. Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD.
150 Praise God in His Sanctuary! Praise Him in the firmament of His power.
2 Praise Him in His mighty acts! Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
3 Praise Him in the sound of the trumpet! Praise Him upon the viol and the harp.
4 Praise Him with timbrel and flute! Praise Him with virginals and organs.
5 Praise Him with sounding cymbals! Praise Him with high sounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
114 When Israel went out of Egypt, and the House of Jacob from the barbarous people,
2 Judah was His sanctification, and Israel His dominion.
3 The sea saw it and fled. Jordan was turned back.
4 The mountains leaped like rams, and the hills as lambs!
5 What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, why were you turned back?
6 You mountains, why did you leap like rams, and you hills as lambs?
7 The Earth trembled at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 Who turns the rock into standing water, and the flint into a fountain of water.
115 Not to us, O LORD, not to us; but to Your Name give the glory, for Your loving mercy and for Your truth’s sake.
2 Why shall the heathen say, “Where is their God, now?”
3 But our God is in Heaven. He does whatever He will.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
5 They have a mouth and do not speak. They have eyes and do not see.
6 They have ears and do not hear. They have noses and do not smell.
7 They have hands and do not touch. They have feet and do not walk; nor do they make a sound with their throat.
8 Those who make them are like them. So are all who trust in them.
9 O Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
10 O House of Aaron, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD. He is their helper and their shield.
12 The LORD has been mindful of us. He will bless. He will bless the House of Israel. He will bless the House of Aaron.
13 He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.
14 The LORD will increase toward you, toward you and toward your children.
15 You are blessed by the LORD, Who made Heaven and Earth.
16 The heavens, even the heavens are the LORD’s; but He has given the Earth to the sons of men.
17 The dead do not praise the LORD, nor any who go down into the silence.
18 But we will praise the LORD from henceforth and forever. Praise the LORD!
14 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I have sent to Babel, and brought it down. They are all fugitives. And the Chaldeans cry in the ships.
15 “I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”
16 Thus says the LORD, Who makes a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters:
17 “When He brings out the chariot and horse, the army and the power lie together, and shall not rise. They are extinguished and quenched, as a wick.
18 “Do not remember the former things or regard the things of old.
19 “Behold, I do a new thing. It shall come forth now. Will you not know it? I will even make a way in the desert, rivers in the wilderness.
20 “The wild beasts shall honor Me, the dragons and the ostriches, because I gave water in the desert and rivers in the wilderness, to give drink to My people, even to My Elect.
21 “I have formed this people for Myself. They shall show forth My praise.
22 “And you have not called upon Me, O Jacob. But you have wearied Me, O Israel.
23 “You have not brought Me the sheep of your Burnt Offerings. Nor have you honored Me with your Sacrifices. I have not made you serve with an offering, nor wearied you with incense.
24 “You brought Me no sweet savor with money. Nor have you made Me drunk with the fat of your Sacrifices. But you have made Me serve with your sins, wearied Me with your iniquities.
25 “I, even I, am He Who puts away your iniquities for My own sake, and will not remember your sins.
26 “Put Me in remembrance. Let us be judged together. State your case, so that you may be justified.
27 “Your first father has sinned, and your teachers have transgressed against Me.
28 “Therefore, I have profaned the rulers of the Sanctuary, and have made Jacob a curse, and Israel a reproach.”
44 “But hear now, O Jacob, My servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen.
2 “Thus says the LORD, Who made you and formed you from the womb, Who will help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob, My servant, and you righteous whom I have chosen.
3 ‘For I will pour water upon the thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. I will pour My Spirit upon your seed, and My blessing upon your buds.
4 ‘And they shall grow, as among the grass, as the willows by the rivers of waters.’
5 “One shall say, ‘I am the LORD’s.’ Another shall be called by the name of Jacob. And another shall write to the LORD with his hand, and name himself by the name of Israel.
17 So God, wanting to more abundantly show the stableness of His counsel to the heirs of promise, bound Himself by an oath.
18 So that by two immutable things (in which it is impossible for God to lie), we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to lay hold upon the hope that is set before us.
19 We have this hope as an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast, and entering in those places behind the veil
20 where the forerunner, Jesus - Who was made High Priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek - has entered in for us.
7 For this Melchizedek - King of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he returned from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,
2 and to whom Abraham also gave a tithe of all things - is by first interpretation “King of Righteousness”, and after that “King of Salem” (that is, “King of Peace”);
3 without father or mother or family, having neither beginning of days nor end of life. But he is likened to the Son of God and continues as a priest forever.
4 Now consider how great this man was to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tithe of the spoils.
5 For indeed those who are the children of Levi (who receive the office of the priesthood) have a Commandment to take tithes from the people according to the Law (that is, from their brothers), though they came out of the loins of Abraham.
6 But the one whose family is not counted among them received tithes from Abraham, and blessed him who had the promises.
7 And without any dispute, the less is blessed by the greater.
8 And here, men who die receive tithes. But there, he who lives (about Whom it is witnessed).
9 And truth be told, Levi (who receives tithes) also paid tithes to Abraham.
10 For he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.
27 And upon this came His disciples, and marveled that He talked with a woman. Yet no one said to Him, “What do You seek?” or “Why are You talking with her?”
28 The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and said to the men,
29 “Come! See a Man who has told me all things that ever I did! Can this be the Christ?”
30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
31 Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him, saying, “Master, eat.”
32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you know not of.”
33 Then the disciples said between themselves, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is that I may do the will of Him who sent Me and finish His work.
35 “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes harvest?’ Behold, I say to you lift up your eyes and look at the fields. For they are white toward harvest already.
36 “And the one who reaps, receives reward, and gathers fruit to life eternal; that both the one who sows and the one who reaps might rejoice together.
37 “For herein is the true saying: that one sows and another reaps.
38 “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored. Other men labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
39 Now many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the saying of the woman who testified, “He has told me all things that ever I did.”
40 Then, when the Samaritans came to Him, they urged Him to stay with them. And He stayed there two days.
41 And many more believed because of His word.
42 And they said to the woman, “Now we believe; not because of your saying, but because we have heard Him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
