Psalm 103

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, Who Forgives All Your Sins

Heading
By David.

Invitation to Praise

Bless the Lord,[a] O my soul.
All that is within me, bless his holy name.

Praise for Personal Blessings

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits—
who pardons all your guilt,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with mercy and compassion,
who satisfies your life[b] with goodness,
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Praise for Blessings Through Moses

The Lord performs righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel.

God’s Great Mercy

The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in mercy.
He will not always accuse.
He will not keep his anger forever.
10 He does not treat us as our sins deserve.
He does not repay us according to our guilty deeds.

God’s Mercy Illustrated

11 Yes, as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so powerful is his mercy toward those who fear him.
12 As distant as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our rebellious acts from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.
14 For he knows how we were formed.
He remembers that we are dust.

Man’s Short Life

15 As for man, his days are like grass.
Like a wildflower he blossoms.
16 Then the wind blows over it, and it is gone,
and its place recognizes it no more.

The Covenant With Moses Proclaims God’s Eternal Mercy

17 But the Lord’s mercy is from eternity to eternity
    over those who fear him,
and his righteousness is with their children’s children,
18     with those who keep his covenant,
with those who remember his precepts in order to obey them.

Closing Praise

19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his royal power rules over all.
20 Bless the Lord, you his angels,
you strong warriors who obey his word
by listening to what he says.
21 Bless the Lord, all his armies,
you who minister to him,
you who do whatever pleases him.
22 Bless the Lord, everything he has made
in all places where he rules.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Psalm 148

Psalm 148

Praise Him, All Creation

Praise Him, All Creation

Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise From the Heavens

Praise the Lord from the heavens.
Praise him in the heights.
Praise him, all his angels.
Praise him, all his armies.
Praise him, sun and moon.
Praise him, all you bright stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
and you waters which are above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
because he commanded, and they were created.
He caused them to stand forever and ever.
He gave a decree, and it will not pass away.

Praise From the Earth

Praise the Lord from the earth,
great sea creatures and all the depths,
fire and hail, snow and fog,
storm winds that obey his word,
mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
crawling creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all peoples,
officials and all judges on earth,
12 young men and also young women,
old people with young people.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted.
His splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 He has raised up a horn[b] for his people—
the praise of all his favored ones—
for the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Praise the Lord.

Genesis 17:1-12

The Covenant of Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless. I will make my covenant between me and you, and I will make your descendants very numerous.”

Abram fell on his face. God spoke with him. He said, “As for me, this is my covenant with you. You will be the father of many nations. Your name will not be Abram anymore, but your name will be Abraham,[a] for I have made you the father of a large group of nations. I will make you extremely fruitful, and I will produce nations from you. Kings will come out of you. I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you as an everlasting covenant throughout their generations. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you. I will give the land where you are living as an alien, all the land of Canaan, to you and to your descendants after you as a permanent possession. I will be their God.”

God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, a covenant between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised by cutting the foreskin off your flesh. It will be a sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 Every boy among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised, every male throughout your generations, whether he is born in your house or purchased with money[b] from any foreigner who is not descended from you.

Genesis 17:15-16

15 God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her Sarai anymore, but her name will be Sarah.[a] 16 I will bless her and even give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of many peoples will come from her.”

Colossians 2:6-12

The Fullness That Is Ours in Christ

Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, by being rooted and built up in him, and strengthened in the faith just as you were taught, while you overflow in faith[a] with thanksgiving.

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, which are in accord with human tradition, namely, the basic principles of the world, but not in accord with Christ. For all the fullness of God’s being dwells bodily in Christ. 10 And you have been brought to fullness in him. Christ is the head over every ruler and authority. 11 You were also circumcised in him, with a circumcision not done by human hands, in the putting off of the body of flesh,[b] in the circumcision of Christ, 12 when you were buried with Christ in baptism. And in baptism you were also raised with him through the faith worked by the God who raised Christ from the dead.

John 16:23-30

23 In that day you will not ask me anything. Amen, Amen, I tell you: Whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be made complete.

25 “I have told you these things using figurative language. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you using figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I am not telling you that I will make requests of the Father on your behalf. 27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am going to leave the world and go to the Father.”

29 “Yes!” his disciples said. “Now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative language. 30 Now we know that you know everything and do not need to have anyone ask you anything. For this reason we believe that you came from God.”
