Version
Psalm 103

This is a song that David wrote.

The love of God[a]

103 I say to myself, ‘Praise the Lord!’
Everything that is in me, praise his holy name!
I say to myself, ‘Praise the Lord!’
Never forget all the good things that he has done for you!
He forgives all my sins.
He makes me well again when I am ill.
He saves me from the deep hole of death's power.
He always loves me and he is kind to me.
That is how he blesses me so much!
He gives me many good things for my life here.
So I become strong again, with the strength of a young eagle.
The Lord does what is right and fair.
He helps poor people who suffer.
He showed Moses how he works to help his people.
He showed the Israelites the great things that he could do.
The Lord is kind to people and he forgives them.
He is slow to get angry and his love always continues.
He will not always tell us that we are wrong.
He will not always continue to be angry.
10 We should receive much punishment for the bad things that we do.
But the Lord does not punish us so much.
11 For people who worship him, his faithful love is very great.
How far is the sky above the earth? His love is greater than that!
12 How far is the east from the west?
The Lord has taken our sins further away than that!
He no longer says that we are guilty.
13 As a father is kind to his children, the Lord is kind to us.
He is kind to people who worship him.
14 He knows that we are weak humans.
He remembers that he used dust to make us.
15 A person's life is like grass that quickly dies.
He is strong only for a short time, like wild flowers in a field.
16 A hot wind blows over flowers and they die!
Nobody even remembers where they were growing.
17 But the faithful love of the Lord
will always be with people who worship him.
He promises to be kind to their children's children for ever.
18 He continues to love people who obey his covenant.
Those are the people who obey his laws.
19 The Lord rules from his throne in heaven.
He rules as king over everything.
20 You who are the Lord's angels,
you strong angels who do what he tells you to do,
    praise the Lord!
21 All of you who belong to his armies in heaven,
his servants who do what he wants,
    praise the Lord!
22 Yes, everything that the Lord has made,
in all the places that he rules over,
    praise the Lord!

I say to myself, ‘Praise the Lord!’

Psalm 148

The 3rd Hallelujah Psalm[a]

148 Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the sky above!
Praise him high in the heavens.
Praise him, all his angels.
Praise him all his armies in heaven.
Praise him, sun and moon.
Praise him, all bright stars.
Praise him, skies above,
and the water above the sky.
They should all praise the name of the Lord.
It was his command that created them.
He has fixed them in their places for all time.
Nothing can change the command that he has given.

Praise the Lord from the earth!
Praise him, sea monsters and all the deep seas.
Praise him, fire and hail, snow and clouds.
Praise him, wind and storm, as you obey his commands.
Praise him, mountains and all hills.
Praise him fruit trees and all trees in the forests.
10 Praise him, wild animals and farm animals.
Praise him, snakes and birds.
11 Praise him, kings all over the world,
    and people of every nation.
Praise him, princes and all rulers on earth.
12 Praise him, young men and young women.
Praise him, old men, as well as children.
13 They should all praise the name of the Lord.
Only the Lord's name is great above all other names.
He is the king who rules over heaven and earth.
14 He has made his own people strong,
so that other nations respect them.
All the people who serve him should praise him.
They are the Israelite nation, who belong to him.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Genesis 17:1-12

God changes Abram's name to Abraham

17 When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him. The Lord said, ‘I am God Almighty. In all your life, obey me and do nothing wrong. Then I will certainly keep my covenant with you. I will make your descendants grow in number.’[a]

Abram fell down so that his face touched the ground. God said to him, ‘As for me, this is my covenant that I have made with you. You will become the ancestor of many nations of people. Your name will not be Abram any more. Instead your name will be Abraham, because I will cause you to become the ancestor of many nations. I will give you many descendants. These will make many nations of people. Some of your descendants will become kings.

My covenant with you is very strong. I am making it with you and with your descendants. It will continue for generation after generation of your descendants, for all time. I will be your God. I will also be the God of all your descendants. You are now living here in Canaan as a foreign person. But I will give all of this land to you and to your descendants. It will belong to them for ever. I will be their God.’

Circumcision

God continued to speak to Abraham. He said, ‘As for you, you must agree to obey me. You must obey the rules of my covenant. You, and all your descendants after you must obey it. 10 This is what you and all your descendants must do to obey my covenant: Every male person in your family must be circumcised. 11 Your circumcision will show that you have agreed to my covenant with you. 12 Every male child among you must be circumcised when he is eight days old. You must continue to do this for every generation. Do it for every male that lives with you, not just your own family. Circumcise servants that have been born in your house. Also circumcise foreign servants that you have bought with money.

Genesis 17:15-16

God changes Sarai's name to Sarah

15 Then God said to Abraham, ‘As for your wife, do not call her Sarai any more. Instead, her name will be Sarah. 16 I will bless her. She will give birth to a son for you. Many nations of people will be her descendants. Some of them will become kings. That is how much I will bless her!’

Colossians 2:6-12

How Christians should live

You have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord. So remember that you belong to him as you live your lives. Get your strength from Christ himself, so that you become stronger and stronger.[a] Continue to believe the true message that we taught you. And thank God very much for everything.

Be careful that you do not believe any false teachers. The ideas that they teach may seem clever. But they really want to deceive you. They are ideas that have come from the human minds of our ancestors. Or ideas that come from spirits that belong to this world. They are not the true message about Christ. The whole nature of God himself lives in Christ, in his human body. 10 And because you are united with Christ, you are now complete. He is the one who rules over everything that has power or authority.

11 Also, because you are united with Christ, you truly belong to God's people. No person has circumcised you to show this. It is like Christ himself has circumcised you, to show that you belong to God. It is like he has cut off your old nature which made you do bad things.[b] 12 When they baptized you, it was like God buried you with Christ.[c] And God also raised you to a new life with Christ. You believed that God has great power to do that. You believed that God raised Jesus to life after he died. Because you believed, God raised you to have a new life.

John 16:23-30

23 When that day arrives, you will not ask me for anything. I tell you this: The Father will help you with anything that you ask him for in my name. 24 Until now, you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask God, and you will receive what you ask for. Then you will be completely happy.

25 I have spoken to you with words and stories that are like pictures. But there will be a time when I will not speak like that any more. Instead, I will speak clearly to you about the Father. 26 When that day arrives, you yourselves will ask the Father in my name.[a] I do not say that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 I will not need to do that, because the Father himself loves you. He loves you because you love me, and you have believed that I came from God. 28 Yes, I came from the Father, and I came into this world. Now I will leave this world and I will return to the Father.’

29 Jesus' disciples said to him, ‘Now you are speaking clearly. You are not speaking with words that are like pictures! 30 Now we are sure that you know everything. You do not even need to ask people what they are thinking. Because of this, we believe that you came from God.’
