Psalm 24

Psalm 24

The King of Glory

Heading
By David. A psalm.

The King of Glory Owns the Whole World

The earth is the Lord’s
and everything that fills it,
the world and all who live in it,
because he founded it on the seas,
and he established it on the rivers.[a]

The King of Glory Is Served by a Holy People

Who may go up to the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
whose soul is not set on what is false,
who does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God who saves him.
Such are the people of Jacob who look for the Lord,
who seek your face.[b] Interlude

The King of Glory Comes

Lift up your heads, you gates.
Lift yourselves up, you ancient doors,
and the King of Glory will come in.
Who is this King of Glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates.
Lift up, you ancient doors,
and the King of Glory will come in.
10 Who is he, this King of Glory?
The Lord of Armies—he is the King of Glory. Interlude[c]

Psalm 29

Psalm 29

The God of Glory Thunders

Heading
A psalm by David.

The God of Glory Thunders

Ascribe to the Lord, you sons of God,[a]
Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name.
Bow down to the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is heard over the waters.
The God of glory thunders.
The Lord thunders above the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord thunders in power.
The voice of the Lord thunders in majesty.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars.
The Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Mount Lebanon skip like a calf.
Sirion[b] skips like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord slashes with flashes of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.
The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord destroys the oaks[c]
and strips the forests bare.
So in his temple they all say, “Glory!”
10 The Lord is seated over the flood.
The Lord is seated as King forever.
11 The Lord gives strength to his people.
The Lord blesses his people with peace.

Psalm 103

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, Who Forgives All Your Sins

Heading
By David.

Invitation to Praise

Bless the Lord,[a] O my soul.
All that is within me, bless his holy name.

Praise for Personal Blessings

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits—
who pardons all your guilt,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with mercy and compassion,
who satisfies your life[b] with goodness,
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Praise for Blessings Through Moses

The Lord performs righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel.

God’s Great Mercy

The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in mercy.
He will not always accuse.
He will not keep his anger forever.
10 He does not treat us as our sins deserve.
He does not repay us according to our guilty deeds.

God’s Mercy Illustrated

11 Yes, as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so powerful is his mercy toward those who fear him.
12 As distant as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our rebellious acts from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.
14 For he knows how we were formed.
He remembers that we are dust.

Man’s Short Life

15 As for man, his days are like grass.
Like a wildflower he blossoms.
16 Then the wind blows over it, and it is gone,
and its place recognizes it no more.

The Covenant With Moses Proclaims God’s Eternal Mercy

17 But the Lord’s mercy is from eternity to eternity
    over those who fear him,
and his righteousness is with their children’s children,
18     with those who keep his covenant,
with those who remember his precepts in order to obey them.

Closing Praise

19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his royal power rules over all.
20 Bless the Lord, you his angels,
you strong warriors who obey his word
by listening to what he says.
21 Bless the Lord, all his armies,
you who minister to him,
you who do whatever pleases him.
22 Bless the Lord, everything he has made
in all places where he rules.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Zechariah 9:9-12

Your Savior and King Is Coming!

Rejoice greatly, Daughter of Zion!
    Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
Look! Your King is coming to you.
He is righteous and brings salvation.
He is humble and is riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
    and the horse from Jerusalem.
The battle bow will be taken away,
and he will proclaim peace to the nations.
His kingdom will extend from sea to sea,
from the River[a] to the ends of the earth.

11 As for you,
because of the blood of my covenant with you,
I will release your prisoners from the waterless pit.
12 Return to the stronghold, you prisoners who have hope.
This very day I declare that I will restore double to you.

Zechariah 12:9-11

On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

They Will Mourn for the One They Pierced

10 “I[a] will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace, who pleads for mercy.[b] Then they will look at me, the one they have pierced.”

They will mourn for him[c] as one mourns for an only child. They will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves over his firstborn. 11 On that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, as great as the mourning for Hadad Rimmon[d] in the plain of Megiddo.

Zechariah 13:1

A Fountain to Wash Away Sin

13 On that day[a] a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.

Zechariah 13:7-9

Strike the Shepherd, and the Sheep Will Be Scattered

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd,
and against the man who is my associate, declares the Lord of Armies.
Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.[a]

This will take place in the whole land, declares the Lord:
Two thirds of those who remain in it will be cut off and perish,
but one third will be left in it.
I will put that third into the fire,
and I will refine them as silver is refined,
and I will test them as gold is tested.
They will call on my name, and I will answer them.
I will say, “This is my people.”
And they will say, “The Lord is my God.”

1 Timothy 6:12-16

12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of eternal life, to which you were called and about which you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who made a good confession as a witness before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this command without spot and without fault, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will make known at the proper time—the blessed and only ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or is able to see. To him be honor and power forever! Amen.

Luke 19:41-48

41 As he came near, he saw the city and wept over it. 42 He said, “If you, yes you, had only known on this day[a] the things that would bring peace to you. But now, it is hidden from your eyes. 43 In fact, the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you, surround you, and hem you in on every side. 44 Within your walls, they will dash you and your children to the ground. And within your walls, they will not leave one stone on top of another, because you did not recognize the time when God came to help you.”[b]

Jesus Cleanses His Father’s House

45 Jesus entered the temple courts and began to drive out those who were selling[c] things there. 46 He told them, “It is written, ‘My house will be a house of prayer,’[d] but you have made it a ‘den of robbers’!”[e]

47 Every day he was teaching in the temple courts, but the chief priests, the experts in the law, and the leaders of the people continued to look for a way to put him to death. 48 They could not find any way to do it, because all the people were clinging to him and listening.
