¹² Hearken unto me, O Jacob, and Israel my called: I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. ¹³ Yea, my hand hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spread out the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. ¹⁴ Assemble yourselves, all ye, and hear; who among them hath declared these things? ^[a]He whom Jehovah loveth shall perform his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. ¹⁵ I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him; I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous. ¹⁶ Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; from the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord Jehovah hath sent me, and his Spirit.

¹⁷ Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am Jehovah thy God, who teacheth thee to profit, who leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. ^18 [b]Oh that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: ¹⁹ thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like ^[c]the grains thereof: his name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.

²⁰ Go ye forth from Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans; with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth: say ye, Jehovah hath redeemed his servant Jacob. ²¹ And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts; he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them; he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

¹⁸ Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to ^[a]visit Cephas, and tarried with him fifteen days. ¹⁹ But other of the apostles saw I none, ^[b]save ^[c]James the Lord’s brother. ²⁰ Now touching the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not. ²¹ Then I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. ²² And I was still unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ: ²³ but they only heard say, He that once persecuted us now ^[d]preacheth the faith of which he once made havoc; ²⁴ and they glorified God in me.

2 Then after the space of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me. ² And I went up by revelation; and I laid before them the ^[e]gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but privately before them who ^[f]were of repute, lest by any means I should be running, or had run, in vain. ³ But not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: ^4 [g]and that because of the false brethren privily brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: ⁵ to whom we gave place in the way of subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the ^[h]gospel might continue with you. ⁶ But from those who ^[i]were reputed to be somewhat ^[j](whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man’s person)—they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me: ⁷ but contrariwise, when they saw that I had been intrusted with the ^[k]gospel of the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the ^[l]gospel of the circumcision ⁸ (for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles); ⁹ and when they perceived the grace that was given unto me, ^[m]James and Cephas and John, they who ^[n]were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision; ¹⁰ only they would that we should remember the poor; which very thing I was also zealous to do.

6 And he went out from thence; and he cometh into his own country; and his disciples follow him. ² And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and ^[a]many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? and, What is the wisdom that is given unto this man, and what mean such ^[b]mighty works wrought by his hands? ³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of ^[c]James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were ^[d]offended in him. ⁴ And Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. ⁵ And he could there do no ^[e]mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. ⁶ And he marvelled because of their unbelief.

And he went round about the villages teaching.

⁷ And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits; ⁸ and he charged them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no bread, no wallet, no ^[f]money in their ^[g]purse; ⁹ but to go shod with sandals: and, said he, put not on two coats. ¹⁰ And he said unto them, Wheresoever ye enter into a house, there abide till ye depart thence. ¹¹ And whatsoever place shall not receive you, and they hear you not, as ye go forth thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony unto them. ¹² And they went out, and preached that men should repent. ¹³ And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
