Book of Common Prayer
Psalm 116
Thanks to God for Deliverance
1 I love the Lord because He has heard
my appeal for mercy.(A)
2 Because He has turned His ear to me,
I will call out to Him as long as I live.(B)
3 The ropes of death were wrapped around me,
and the torments of Sheol overcame me;
I encountered trouble and sorrow.(C)
4 Then I called on the name of Yahweh:
“Yahweh, save me!”(D)
5 The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is compassionate.(E)
6 The Lord guards the inexperienced;
I was helpless, and He saved me.(F)
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.(G)
8 For You, Lord, rescued me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.(H)
9 I will walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.(I)
10 I believed, even when I said,
“I am severely afflicted.”(J)
11 In my alarm I said,
“Everyone is a liar.”(K)
12 How can I repay the Lord
for all the good He has done for me?(L)
13 I will take the cup of salvation
and call on the name of Yahweh.(M)
14 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all His people.(N)
14 Sing for joy, Daughter Zion;
shout loudly, Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
Daughter Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has removed your punishment;
He has turned back your enemy.
The King of Israel, Yahweh, is among you;
you need no longer fear harm.
16 On that day it will be said to Jerusalem:
“Do not fear;
Zion, do not let your hands grow weak.(A)
17 Yahweh your God is among you,
a warrior(B) who saves.
He will rejoice over you(C) with gladness.
He will bring you quietness[a] with His love.
He will delight in you with shouts of joy.”(D)
18 I will gather those who have been driven(E)
from the appointed festivals;
they will be a tribute from you[b]
and a reproach on her.[c]
19 Yes, at that time
I will deal with all who afflict you.
I will save the lame(F) and gather the scattered;(G)
I will make those who were disgraced
throughout the earth
receive praise and fame.
20 At that time I will bring you[d] back,
yes, at the time I will gather you.
I will give you fame and praise
among all the peoples of the earth,
when I restore your fortunes(H) before your eyes.
Yahweh has spoken.
47 Now(A) Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching where He was placed.
Resurrection Morning
16 When(B) the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene,(C) Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so they could go and anoint Him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week,(D) they went to the tomb(E) at sunrise. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?” 4 Looking up, they observed that the stone—which was very large—had been rolled away. 5 When(F) they entered the tomb,(G) they saw a young man[a](H) dressed(I) in a long white(J) robe sitting on the right side; they were amazed and alarmed.
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,(K) who was crucified. He has been resurrected!(L) He is not here! See the place where they put Him. 7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter,(M) ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee;(N) you will see Him there just as He told you.’”
Psalm 30
Joy in the Morning
A psalm; a dedication song for the house. Davidic.
1 I will exalt You, Lord,
because You have lifted me up(A)
and have not allowed my enemies
to triumph over me.(B)
2 Lord my God,
I cried to You for help, and You healed me.(C)
3 Lord, You brought me up from Sheol;(D)
You spared me from among those
going down[a] to the Pit.(E)
4 Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones,
and praise His holy name.(F)
5 For His anger lasts only a moment,
but His favor, a lifetime.
Weeping may spend the night,
but there is joy in the morning.(G)
6 When I was secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.”(H)
7 Lord, when You showed Your favor,
You made me stand like a strong mountain;(I)
when You hid Your face, I was terrified.(J)
8 Lord, I called to You;
I sought favor from my Lord:(K)
9 “What gain is there in my death,
if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise You?
Will it proclaim Your truth?(L)
10 Lord, listen and be gracious to me;
Lord, be my helper.”(M)
Psalm 149
Praise for God’s Triumph
1 Hallelujah!
Sing to the Lord a new song,(A)
His praise in the assembly of the godly.(B)
2 Let Israel celebrate its Maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.(C)
3 Let them praise His name with dancing
and make music to Him with tambourine and lyre.(D)
4 For Yahweh takes pleasure in His people;(E)
He adorns the humble with salvation.(F)
5 Let the godly celebrate in triumphal glory;
let them shout for joy on their beds.(G)
6 Let the exaltation of God be in their mouths[a]
and a double-edged sword in their hands,(H)
7 inflicting vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,(I)
8 binding their kings with chains
and their dignitaries with iron shackles,(J)
9 carrying out the judgment decreed against them.
This honor is for all His godly people.(K)
Hallelujah!
The God of Comfort
3 Praise(A) the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies(B) and the God of all comfort.(C) 4 He comforts us in all our affliction,[a] so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For as the sufferings(D) of Christ(E) overflow to us, so through Christ our comfort also overflows.(F) 6 If we are afflicted,(G) it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is experienced in your endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer.(H) 7 And our hope(I) for you is firm, because we know that as you share(J) in the sufferings, so you will share in the comfort.
