11 Come, children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.(Q)
12 Who is someone who desires life,
loving a long life to enjoy what is good?(R)
13 Keep your tongue from evil

not one of them is broken.(AB)
21 Evil brings death to the wicked,

50 Laban and Bethuel answered, “This is from the Lord; we have no choice in the matter.[a](A) 51 Rebekah is here in front of you. Take her and go, and let her be a wife for your master’s son, just as the Lord has spoken.”
52 When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed to the ground before the Lord. 53 Then he brought out objects of silver and gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious gifts to her brother and her mother. 54 Then he and the men with him ate and drank and spent the night.
When they got up in the morning, he said, “Send me to my master.”
55 But her brother and mother said, “Let the girl stay with us for about ten days. Then she[b] can go.”
56 But he responded to them, “Do not delay me, since the Lord has made my journey a success. Send me away so that I may go to my master.”
57 So they said, “Let’s call the girl and ask her opinion.”[c]
58 They called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?”
She replied, “I will go.” 59 So they sent away their sister Rebekah with the one who had nursed and raised her,[d](B) and Abraham’s servant and his men.
60 They blessed Rebekah, saying to her:
Our sister, may you become
thousands upon ten thousands.(C)
May your offspring possess
the city gates of their[e] enemies.(D)
61 Then Rebekah and her female servants got up, mounted the camels, and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and left.
62 Now Isaac was returning from Beer-lahai-roi,[f](E) for he was living in the Negev region. 63 In the early evening Isaac went out to walk[g] in the field, and looking up he saw camels coming. 64 Rebekah looked up, and when she saw Isaac, she got down from her camel 65 and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?”
The servant answered, “It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself. 66 Then the servant told Isaac everything he had done.
67 And Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah and took Rebekah to be his wife. Isaac loved her, and he was comforted after his mother’s death.(F)
An Approved Worker
14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God[a] not to fight about words.(A) This is useless and leads to the ruin of those who listen. 15 Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.(B) 16 Avoid irreverent and empty speech, since those who engage in it will produce even more godlessness,(C) 17 and their teaching will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus(D) and Philetus are among them. 18 They have departed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place,(E) and are ruining the faith of some.(F) 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, bearing this inscription:(G) The Lord knows those who are his,[b](H) and let everyone who calls on the name(I) of[c] the Lord turn away from wickedness.(J)
20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels,(K) but also those of wood and clay; some for honorable[d] use and some for dishonorable.[e](L) 21 So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable,[f] he will be a special[g] instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.(M)
Blessing the Children
13 People(A) were bringing little children(B) to him in order that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked(C) them. 14 When Jesus saw it, he was indignant(D) and said to them, “Let the little children come to me.(E) Don’t stop(F) them, because the kingdom of God(G) belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you,(H) whoever does not receive[a](I) the kingdom of God like a little child(J) will never enter it.” 16 After taking them in his arms, he laid his hands on(K) them and blessed(L) them.
The Rich Young Ruler
17 As(M) he was setting out on a journey,(N) a man ran up, knelt down(O) before him, and asked him, “Good(P) teacher,(Q) what must I do to inherit(R) eternal life?” (S)
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good except God alone.(T) 19 You know the commandments: Do not murder;(U) do not commit adultery;(V) do not steal;(W) do not bear false witness;(X) do not defraud;(Y) honor(Z) your father and mother.”[b](AA)
20 He said to him, “Teacher,(AB) I have kept all these from my youth.”
21 Looking at him, Jesus loved him(AC) and said to him, “You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor,(AD) and you will have treasure(AE) in heaven.(AF) Then come,[c] follow me.”(AG) 22 But he was dismayed by this demand, and he went away grieving,(AH) because he had many possessions.(AI)
