Psalm 45

A Song Celebrating the King’s Marriage.

For the music director; according to the [a]Shoshannim. A [b]Maskil of the sons of Korah. A Song of Love.

45 My heart is moved with a good theme;
I [c]address my [d]verses to the [e]King;
My tongue is the pen of (A)a ready writer.
You are the most handsome of the sons of mankind;
(B)Grace is poured [f]upon Your lips;
Therefore God has (C)blessed You forever.

Strap (D)Your sword on Your thigh, [g](E)Mighty One,
In Your splendor and majesty!
And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth, (F)humility, and righteousness;
Let Your (G)right hand teach You [h]awesome things.
Your (H)arrows are sharp;
The (I)peoples fall under You;
Your arrows are (J)in the heart of the King’s enemies.

(K)Your throne, God, is forever and ever;
(L)The scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of justice.
You have (M)loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has (N)anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your companions.
All Your garments are fragrant with (O)myrrh, aloes, and cassia;
From ivory palaces (P)stringed instruments have made You joyful.
Kings’ daughters are among (Q)Your noble women;
At Your (R)right hand stands the queen in (S)gold from Ophir.

10 Listen, daughter, look and incline your ear:
(T)Forget your people and your father’s house;
11 Then the King will crave your beauty.
Because He is your (U)Lord, (V)bow down to Him.
12 The daughter of (W)Tyre will come with a gift;
The (X)wealthy among the people will seek your favor.

13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within;
Her clothing is (Y)interwoven with gold.
14 She will be (Z)brought to the King (AA)in colorful garments;
The (AB)virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
15 They will be brought with joy and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.

16 In place of your fathers will be your sons;
You shall make them princes in all the earth.
17 I will make (AC)Your name known among all generations;
Therefore the peoples (AD)will praise You forever and ever.

Psalm 47-48

God, the King of the Earth.

For the music director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

47 (A)Clap your hands, all you peoples;
(B)Shout to God with a voice of joy.
For the Lord Most High is to be (C)feared,
A (D)great King over all the earth.
He (E)subdues peoples under us
And nations under our feet.
He chooses our (F)inheritance for us,
The (G)pride of Jacob whom He loves. Selah

God has (H)ascended [a]with a shout,
The Lord, [b]with the (I)sound of a trumpet.
(J)Sing praises to God, sing praises;
Sing praises to (K)our King, sing praises.
For God is the (L)King of all the earth;
Sing praises (M)with a psalm of wisdom.
God (N)reigns over the nations,
God [c]sits on (O)His holy throne.
The [d](P)princes of the people have assembled as the (Q)people of the God of Abraham,
For the (R)shields of the earth belong to God;
He is (S)highly exalted.

The Beauty and Glory of Zion.

A Song; a Psalm of the sons of Korah.

48 (T)Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
In the (U)city of our God, His (V)holy mountain.
(W)Beautiful in elevation, (X)the joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion in the far north,
The (Y)city of the great King.
In its palaces,
God has made Himself known as a (Z)stronghold.

For, behold, the (AA)kings arrived,
They passed by together.
They saw it, then they were amazed;
They were (AB)terrified, they fled in a hurry.
[e]Panic seized them there,
Anguish, as that of (AC)a woman in childbirth.
With the (AD)east wind
You (AE)smash the (AF)ships of Tarshish.
Just as we have heard, so have we seen
In the city of the Lord of armies, in the city of our God;
God will (AG)establish her forever. Selah

We have thought over (AH)Your goodness, God,
In the midst of Your temple.
10 As is Your (AI)name, God,
So is Your (AJ)praise to the ends of the earth;
Your (AK)right hand is full of righteousness.
11 Mount (AL)Zion shall be glad,
The (AM)daughters of Judah shall rejoice
Because of Your judgments.
12 Walk around Zion and encircle her;
Count her (AN)towers;
13 Consider her (AO)ramparts;
Go through her palaces,
So that you may (AP)tell of her to the next generation.
14 For [f]such is God,
Our God forever and ever;
He will (AQ)lead us [g]until death.

Exodus 32:21-34

21 Then Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought such a great sin upon them?” 22 And Aaron said, “Do not let the anger of my lord burn; you know the people yourself, (A)that they are [a]prone to evil. 23 For (B)they said to me, ‘Make [b]a god for us who will go before us; for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt—we do not know what happened to him.’ 24 So I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them tear it off.’ Then they gave it to me, and (C)I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”

25 Now when Moses saw that the people were [c]out of control—for Aaron had (D)let them [d]get out of control to the point of being an object of ridicule among [e]their enemies— 26 Moses then stood at the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is for the Lord, come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered together to him. 27 And he said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘Every man of you put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his [f]neighbor.’” 28 So (E)the sons of Levi did [g]as Moses instructed, and about three thousand men of the people fell that day. 29 Then Moses said, “[h]Dedicate yourselves today to the Lord—for every man has been against his son and against his brother—in order that He may bestow a blessing upon you today.”

30 And on the next day Moses said to the people, “(F)You yourselves have [i]committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the Lord; perhaps I can (G)make atonement for your sin.” 31 Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, this people has [j]committed a great sin, and they have made a (H)god of gold for themselves! 32 But now, if You will forgive their sin, very well; but if not, please wipe me out from Your (I)book which You have written!” 33 However, the Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, (J)I will wipe him out of My book. 34 But go now, lead the people (K)where I told you. Behold, (L)My angel shall go before you; nevertheless (M)on the day when I [k]punish, (N)I will [l]punish them for their sin.”

1 Thessalonians 1

Giving Thanks for These Believers

(A)Paul, (B)Silvanus, and (C)Timothy,

To the (D)church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: (E)Grace to you and peace.

(F)We always give thanks to God for all of you, (G)making mention of you in our prayers; constantly keeping in mind your (H)work of faith and labor of (I)love and [a](J)perseverance of hope [b]in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of (K)our God and Father, knowing, (L)brothers and sisters, beloved by God, (M)His choice of you; for our (N)gospel did not come to you in word only, but also (O)in power and in the Holy Spirit and with (P)full conviction; just as you know (Q)what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sakes. You also became (R)imitators of us and of the Lord, (S)having received (T)the word during great affliction with the (U)joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in (V)Macedonia and (W)Achaia. For (X)the word of the Lord has (Y)sounded forth from you, not only in (Z)Macedonia and (AA)Achaia, but (AB)in every place the news of your faith toward God has gone out, so that we have no need to say anything. For they themselves report about us [c]as to the kind of (AC)reception we had with you, and how you (AD)turned to God (AE)from [d]idols to serve [e](AF)a living and true God, 10 and to (AG)wait for His Son from [f]heaven, whom He (AH)raised from the dead, that is, Jesus who (AI)rescues us from (AJ)the wrath to come.

Matthew 5:11-16

11 “Blessed are you when people (A)insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for (B)in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Disciples and the World

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but (C)if the salt has become tasteless, how [a]can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people.

14 “You are (D)the light of the world. A city set on a [b]hill cannot be hidden; 15 (E)nor do people light a lamp and put it under a [c]basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may (F)see your good works, and (G)glorify your Father who is in heaven.
