93 1 He praiseth the power of God in the creation of the world, and beateth down all people which lift them up against his majesty, 5 and provoked to consider his promises.
1 The Lord [a]reigneth, and is clothed with majesty: the Lord is clothed, and girded with power, the world also shall be established, that it cannot be moved.
2 Thy [b]throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.
3 [c]The floods have lifted up, O Lord: the floods have lifted up their voice: the floods lift up their waves.
4 The waves of the sea are marvelous through the noise of many waters, yet the Lord on high is more mighty.
5 Thy [d]testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine House, O Lord, forever.
96 1 An exhortation both to the Jews and Gentiles to praise God for his mercy. And this specially ought to be referred to the kingdom of Christ.
1 Sing [a]unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord all the earth.
2 Sing unto the Lord, and praise his Name: declare his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among all nations, and his wonders among all people.
4 For the Lord is [b]great and much to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the people are [c]idols: but the Lord [d]made the heavens.
6 [e]Strength and glory are before him: power and beauty are in his Sanctuary.
7 Give unto the Lord, ye families of the people: give unto the Lord glory and [f]power.
8 Give unto the Lord the glory of his Name: bring [g]an offering, and enter into his courts.
9 Worship the Lord in the glorious Sanctuary: tremble before him all the earth.
10 Say among the [h]Nations, The Lord reigneth: Surely the world shall be stable, and not move, and he shall judge the people [i]in righteousness.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad: let the sea roar, and all that therein is.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it: let all the [j]trees of the wood then rejoice,
13 Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness, and the people in his truth.
34 1 After David had escaped Achish, according as it is written in 1 Sam. 2:11, whom in this title he calleth Abimelech (which was a general name to all the Kings of the Philistines) he praiseth God for his deliverance, 3 provoking all others by his example to trust in God, to fear and serve him, 7 who defendeth the godly with his Angels, 16 and utterly destroyeth the wicked in their sins.
A Psalm of David, when he changeth his behavior before Abimelech, who drave him away, and he departed.
1 I will [a]always give thanks unto the Lord: his praise shall be in my mouth continually.
2 My soul shall glory in the Lord: the [b]humble shall hear it and be glad.
3 Praise ye the Lord with me, and let us magnify his Name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me: yea, he delivered me out of all my [c]fear.
5 They [d]shall look unto him, and run to him: and their faces shall not be ashamed, saying,
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The [e]Angel of the Lord pitched round about them, that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 Taste ye and see, how gracious the Lord is: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 Fear the Lord ye his Saints: for nothing wanteth to them that fear him.
10 The [f]lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they which seek the Lord, shall [g]want nothing that is good.
11 Come children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the [h]fear of the Lord.
12 (A)What man is he that desireth life, and loveth long days for to [i]see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips, that they speak no guile.
14 Eschew evil and do good: seek peace and follow after it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16 But the [j]face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off their remembrance from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth them, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near unto them that are of a [k]contrite heart, and will save such as be afflicted in spirit.
19 Great are the troubles of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
20 [l]He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
21 But malice shall slay the [m]wicked: and they that hate the righteous, shall perish.
22 The Lord [n]redeemeth the souls of his servants: and none that trust in him, shall perish.
The First Book of Samuel
1 1 The genealogy of Elkanah father of Samuel. 2 His two wives. 5 Hannah was barren, and prayed to the Lord. 15 Her answer to Eli. 20 Samuel is born. 24 She doth dedicate him to the Lord.
1 There was a man of one of the two [a]Ramathaim Zophim, of mount Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
7 (And so did he year by year) and as oft as she went up to the house of the Lord, thus she vexed her, that she wept and did not eat.
8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thine heart troubled? am not I better to thee than ten [a]sons?
9 So Hannah rose up after that they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh (and Eli the Priest sat upon a stool by one of the posts of the [b]Temple of the Lord)
10 And she was troubled in her mind, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore:
11 Also she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt look on the trouble of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but give unto thine handmaid a man-child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, (A)and there shall no razor come upon his head.
12 And as she continued praying before the Lord, Eli marked her mouth.
13 For Hannah spake in her heart: her lips did move only, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? Put away thy [c]drunkenness from thee.
15 Then Hannah answered and said, Nay my lord, but I am a woman [d]troubled in spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have (B)poured out my soul before the Lord.
16 Count not thine handmaid [e]for a wicked woman: for of the abundance of my complaint and my grief have I spoken hitherto.
17 Then Eli answered, and said, Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18 She said again, Let thine handmaid find [f]grace in thy sight: so the woman went her way, and did eat, and looked no more sad.
19 ¶ Then they rose up early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah. Now Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord [g]remembered her.
20 For in process of time Hannah conceived and bare a son, and she called his name Samuel, Because, said she, I have asked him of the Lord.
21 ¶ So the man [h]Elkanah and all his house, went up to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow:
22 But Hannah went not up: for she said unto her husband, I will tarry until the child be weaned, then I will bring him that he may appear before the Lord, and there abide forever.
23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee best: tarry until thou hast weaned him: only the Lord accomplish his [i]word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24 ¶ And when she had weaned him, she took him with her with three bullocks and an Ephah of flour and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the Lord in Shiloh, and the child was [j]young.
25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
26 And she said, Oh my Lord, as thy [k]soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood with thee here praying unto the Lord.
27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord hath given me my desire which I asked of him.
28 Therefore also I have [l]given him unto the Lord: as long as he liveth he shall be given unto the Lord: and he [m]worshipped the Lord there.
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard of it, cease not to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be fulfilled with knowledge of [a]his will in all wisdom, and spiritual understanding.
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord, and please him in all things, being fruitful in all good works, and increasing in the knowledge of God,
11 [b]Strengthened with all might through his glorious power, unto all patience, and longsuffering with [c]joyfulness,
12 [d]Giving thanks unto the [e]Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the Saints in [f]light,
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom (A)of his dear Son,
14 [g]In whom we have redemption through his blood, that is, the forgiveness of sins.
15 [h]Who is the (B)image of the invisible God, [i]the first begotten of every creature.
16 (C)For by him were all things created which are in heaven, and which are in earth, things visible and invisible: whether they be [j]Thrones, or Dominions, or Principalities, or Powers, all things were created by him, and for him.
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things consist.
18 [k]And he is the head of the body of the Church: he is the beginning, (D)and the [l]first begotten of the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 (E)For it pleased the Father, that in him should [m]all fullness dwell.
20 [n]And through peace made by that blood of that his cross, to reconcile to himself through him, through him, I say, [o]all things, both which are in earth, and which are in heaven.
22 (A)[a]And when the days of [b]her purification, after the Law of Moses, were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord,
23 (As it is written in the Law of the Lord, (B)Every man child that first openeth the womb, shall be called holy to the Lord,)
24 And to give an oblation, (C)as it is commanded in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
25 [c]And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon: this man was just, and feared God, and waited for the consolation of Israel, and the [d]holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was declared to him from God by the holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen that Anointed of the Lord.
27 And he came by the motion of the spirit into the Temple, and when the [e]parents brought in the babe Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the Law.
28 Then he took him in his arms, and praised God, and said,
29 Lord, now [f]lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy [g]word,
30 For [h]mine eyes have seen thy [i]salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared [j]before the face of all people,
32 A light to be revealed to the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things, which were spoken touching him.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is [k]appointed for the (D)[l]fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a [m]sign which shall be spoken against,
35 (Yea and a sword shall [n]pierce through thy soul) that the thoughts of many hearts may be opened.
36 [o]And there was a Prophetess, one Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, which was of a great age, after she had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity:
37 And she was widow about fourscore, and four years, and went not out of the Temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 She then coming at the same instant upon them, confessed likewise the Lord, and spake of him to all that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 And when they had performed all things, according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee to their own city Nazareth.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in Spirit, [p]and was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was with him.
