88 O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before Thee.
2 Let my prayer come before Thee; incline Thine ear unto my cry.
3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
4 I am counted with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no strength,
5 cast among the dead like the slain that lie in the grave, whom Thou rememberest no more, and who are cut off from Thy hand.
6 Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
7 Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and Thou hast afflicted me with all Thy waves. Selah
8 Thou hast put away mine acquaintances far from me; Thou hast made me an abomination unto them. I am shut up, and I cannot come forth;
9 mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction. Lord, I have called daily upon Thee; I have stretched out my hands unto Thee.
10 Wilt Thou show wonders to the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise Thee? Selah
11 Shall Thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Thy faithfulness in destruction?
12 Shall Thy wonders be known in the dark? And Thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
13 But unto Thee have I cried, O Lord, and in the morning shall my prayer come before Thee.
14 Lord, why castest Thou off my soul? Why hidest Thou Thy face from me?
15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up; while I suffer Thy terrors I am distraught.
16 Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; Thy terrors have cut me off.
17 They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.
18 Lover and friend hast Thou put far from me, and mine acquaintances into darkness.
91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him will I trust.”
3 Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust; His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flieth by day,
6 nor of the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor of the destruction that layeth waste at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation,
10 there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample underfoot.
14 “Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he hath known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”
92 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto Thy name, O Most High,
2 to show forth Thy lovingkindness in the morning, and Thy faithfulness every night,
3 upon an instrument of ten strings and upon the psaltery, upon the harp with a solemn sound.
4 For Thou, Lord, hast made me glad through Thy work; I will triumph in the works of Thy hands.
5 O Lord, how great are Thy works! And Thy thoughts are very deep.
6 A brutish man knoweth not, neither doth a fool understand this:
7 when the wicked spring up as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish, it is that they shall be destroyed for ever;
8 but Thou, Lord, art Most High for evermore.
9 For lo, Thine enemies, O Lord, for lo, Thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
10 But my horn shalt Thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn; I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
11 Mine eye also shall see what I desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear what I desire upon the wicked that rise up against me.
12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those that are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing to show
15 that the Lord is upright. He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company.” And Joram said, “Take a horseman and send to meet them, and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’”
18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, “Thus saith the king: ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu said, “What hast thou to do with peace? Turn thee in behind me.” And the watchman told, saying, “The messenger came to them, but he cometh not back.”
19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them and said, “Thus saith the king: ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu answered, “What hast thou to do with peace? Turn thee in behind me.”
20 And the watchman told, saying, “He came even unto them and cometh not back; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he driveth furiously.”
21 And Joram said, “Make ready.” And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out against Jehu and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” And he answered, “What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?”
23 And Joram turned his hands and fled, and said to Ahaziah, “There is treachery, O Ahaziah!”
24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength and smote Joram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sank down in his chariot.
25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, “Take him up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord laid this burden upon him:
26 ‘Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, saith the Lord, and I will requite thee in this plot, saith the Lord.’ Now therefore take and cast him into the plot of ground, according to the word of the Lord.”
27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him and said, “Smite him also in the chariot.” And they did so at the ascent to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulcher with his fathers in the City of David.
29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah had begun to reign over Judah.
30 And when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face and attired her head, and looked out at a window.
31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, “Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?”
32 And he lifted up his face to the window and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” And there looked out at him two or three eunuchs.
33 And he said, “Throw her down!” So they threw her down, and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses; and he trod her underfoot.
34 And when he had come in, he ate and drank, and said, “Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king’s daughter.”
35 And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.
36 Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, “This is the word of the Lord, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel.
37 And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, “This is Jezebel.”’”
7 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence, and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband; and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife.
5 Defraud ye not one the other, unless it be with consent for a time only, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not through your lack of selfrestraint.
6 But I speak this by permission, and not by commandment.
7 For I would that all men were even as I myself am. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one in this manner and another in that.
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I.
9 But if they cannot contain themselves, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him.
9 In this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
10 Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
