84 Unto the end, for the sons of Core, a psalm.

² Lord, thou hast blessed thy land: thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob.

³ Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people: thou hast covered all their sins.

⁴ Thou hast mitigated all thy anger: thou hast turned away from the wrath of thy indignation.

⁵ Convert us, O God our saviour: and turn off thy anger from us.

⁶ Wilt thou be angry with us for ever: or wilt thou extend thy wrath from generation to generation?

⁷ Thou wilt turn, O God, and bring us to life: and thy people shall rejoice in thee.

⁸ shew us, O Lord, thy mercy; and grant us thy salvation.

⁹ I will hear what the Lord God will speak in me: for he will speak peace unto his people: And unto his saints: and unto them that are converted to the heart.

¹⁰ Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him: that glory may dwell in our land.

¹¹ Mercy and truth have met each other: justice and peace have kissed.

¹² Truth is sprung out of the earth: and justice hath looked down from heaven.

¹³ For the Lord will give goodness: and our earth shall yield her fruit.

¹⁴ Justice shall walk before him: and shall set his steps in the way.

19 And Achab told Jezabel all that Elias had done, and how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

² And Jezabel sent a messenger to Elias, saying: Such and such things may the gods do to me, and add still more, if by this hour to morrow I make not thy life as the life of one of them.

³ Then Elias was afraid, and rising up he went whithersoever he had a mind: and he came to Bersabee of Juda, and left his servant there,

⁴ And he went forward, one day's journey into the desert. And when he was there, and sat under a juniper tree, he requested for his soul that he might die, and said: It is enough for me, Lord, take away my soul: for I am no better than my fathers.

⁵ And he cast himself down, and slept in the shadow of the juniper tree: and behold an angel of the Lord touched him, and said to him: Arise and eat.

⁶ He looked, and behold there was at his head a hearth cake, and a vessel of water: and he ate and drank, and he fell asleep again.

⁷ And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said to him: Arise, eat: for thou hast yet a great way to go.

⁸ And he arose, and ate, and drank, and walked in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God, Horeb.

⁹ And when he was come thither, he abode in a cave: and behold the word of the Lord came unto him, and he said to him: What dost thou here, Elias?

¹⁰ And he answered: With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant: they have thrown down thy altars, they have slain thy prophets with the sword, and I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it away.

¹¹ And he said to him: Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord: and behold the Lord passeth, and a great and strong wind before the Lord over throwing the mountains, and breaking the rocks in pieces: the Lord is not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake: the Lord is not in the earthquake.

¹² And after the earthquake a fire: the Lord is not in the fire, and after the fire a whistling of a gentle air.

3 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need (as some do) epistles of commendation to you, or from you?

² You are our epistle, written in our hearts, which is known and read by all men:

³ Being manifested, that you are the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, and written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in the fleshly tables of the heart.

⁴ And such confidence we have, through Christ, towards God.

⁵ Not that we are sufficient to think any thing of ourselves, as of ourselves: but our sufficiency is from God.

⁶ Who also hath made us fit ministers of the new testament, not in the letter, but in the spirit. For the letter killeth, but the spirit quickeneth.

⁷ Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters upon stones, was glorious; so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance, which is made void:

⁸ How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather in glory?

⁹ For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more the ministration of justice aboundeth in glory.

¹⁸ But we all beholding the glory of the Lord with open face, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.
