Book of Common Prayer
Praise for the Lord’s Mercies.
A Psalm of David.
103 (A)Bless the Lord, my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His (B)holy name.
2 Bless the Lord, my soul,
And (C)do not forget any of His benefits;
3 Who (D)pardons all your guilt,
Who (E)heals all your diseases;
4 Who (F)redeems your life from the pit,
Who (G)crowns you with favor and compassion;
5 Who (H)satisfies your [a]years with good things,
So that your youth is (I)renewed like the eagle.
6 The Lord (J)performs [b]righteous deeds
And judgments for all who are (K)oppressed.
7 He (L)made known His ways to Moses,
His (M)deeds to the sons of Israel.
8 The Lord is (N)compassionate and gracious,
(O)Slow to anger and abounding in mercy.
9 He (P)will not always contend with us,
Nor will He (Q)keep His anger forever.
10 He has (R)not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our guilty deeds.
11 For as high (S)as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who [c]fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He (T)removed our wrongdoings from us.
13 Just (U)as a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who [d]fear Him.
14 For (V)He Himself knows [e]our form;
He (W)is mindful that we are nothing but (X)dust.
15 As for man, his days are (Y)like grass;
Like a (Z)flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 When the (AA)wind has passed over it, it is no more,
And its (AB)place no longer knows about it.
17 But the [f](AC)mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting for those who [g]fear Him,
And His justice (AD)to the children’s children,
18 To (AE)those who keep His covenant
And remember His precepts, so as to do them.
19 The Lord has established His (AF)throne in the heavens,
And His [h](AG)sovereignty rules over [i]all.
20 Bless the Lord, you (AH)His angels,
(AI)Mighty in strength, who (AJ)perform His word,
(AK)Obeying the voice of His word!
21 Bless the Lord, all you (AL)His [j]angels,
You (AM)who serve Him, doing His will.
22 Bless the Lord, (AN)all you works of His,
In all places of His dominion;
Bless the Lord, my soul!
The Lord Praised for His Goodness.
111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 (C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
3 [d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has caused His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
5 He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are trustworthy.
8 They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [j](M)truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [k]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [l]awesome is His name.
10 The [m](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
All those who [n]follow (Q)His commandments have a good understanding;
His (R)praise endures forever.
God’s Rescue of Israel from Egypt.
114 When Israel went forth (A)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of a (B)foreign language,
2 Judah became (C)His sanctuary;
Israel, (D)His dominion.
God Is Gracious and Just
18 Therefore the Lord [a](A)longs to be gracious to you,
And therefore He [b]waits on (B)high to have compassion on you.
For the Lord is a (C)God of justice;
How blessed are all those who [c](D)long for Him.
19 [d]For, you people in Zion, (E)inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will (F)weep no longer. He will certainly be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will (G)answer you. 20 Although the Lord has given you (H)bread of deprivation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher, will no longer (I)hide Himself, but your eyes will see your Teacher. 21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the (J)way, walk in it,” whenever you (K)turn to the right or to the left.
36 Therefore let all the (A)house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both (B)Lord and [a]Christ—this Jesus (C)whom you crucified.”
37 Now when they heard this, they were [b]pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “[c]Brothers, (D)what are we to do?” 38 Peter said to them, “(E)Repent, and each of you be (F)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For (G)the promise is for you and your children and for all who are (H)far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40 And with many other words he solemnly (I)testified and kept on urging them, saying, “[d]Be saved from this (J)perverse generation!” 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand [e](K)souls. 42 They were (L)continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to (M)the breaking of bread and (N)to [f]prayer.
43 [g]Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many (O)wonders and [h]signs were taking place through the apostles. 44 And all the believers [i]were together and (P)had all things in common; 45 and they (Q)would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need. 46 (R)Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and (S)breaking bread [j]from house to house, they were taking their [k]meals together with gladness and [l]sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and (T)having favor with all the people. And the Lord (U)was adding to [m]their number day by day (V)those who were being saved.
15 “(A)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
The Holy Spirit
16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [a](B)Helper, so that He may be with you forever; 17 the Helper is (C)the Spirit of truth, (D)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (E)I am coming to you. 19 [b](F)After a little while, (G)the world no longer is going to see Me, but you are going to see Me; (H)because I live, you also will live. 20 (I)On that day you will know that (J)I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I in you. 21 (K)The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and (L)the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will (M)reveal Myself to him.” 22 (N)Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what has happened (O)that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “(P)If anyone loves Me, he will (Q)follow My word; and (R)My Father will love him, and We (S)will come to him and make Our dwelling with him. 24 The one who does not love Me (T)does not follow My words; and (U)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you. 26 But the (V)Helper, the Holy Spirit (W)whom the Father will send in My name, (X)He will teach you all things, and (Y)remind you of all that I said to you. 27 (Z)Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. [c](AA)Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor [d]fearful. 28 (AB)You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away, and (AC)I am coming to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced [e]because (AD)I am going to the Father, for (AE)the Father is greater than I. 29 And now (AF)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. 30 I will not speak much more with you, for (AG)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has [f]nothing in regard to Me, 31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, [g]I do exactly as (AH)the Father commanded Me. Get up, (AI)let’s go from here.
