Book of Common Prayer
Praise for Jerusalem’s Restoration and Prosperity.
147 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
For (A)it is good to sing praises to our God;
For [c]it is pleasant and praise is (B)becoming.
2 The Lord (C)builds up Jerusalem;
He (D)gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3 He heals the (E)brokenhearted
And (F)binds up their [d]wounds.
4 He (G)counts the number of the stars;
He [e](H)gives names to all of them.
5 (I)Great is our Lord and abundant in strength;
His (J)understanding is [f]infinite.
6 The Lord [g](K)supports the afflicted;
He brings down the wicked to the ground.
7 (L)Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
Sing praises to our God on the lyre,
8 Who (M)covers the heavens with clouds,
Who (N)provides rain for the earth,
Who (O)makes grass to [h]grow on the mountains.
9 He (P)gives to the beast its food,
And to the (Q)young ravens which cry.
10 He does not delight in the strength of the (R)horse;
He (S)does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The Lord (T)favors those who fear Him,
(U)Those who wait for His lovingkindness.
12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He has strengthened the (V)bars of your gates;
He has (W)blessed your sons within you.
14 He (X)makes [i]peace in your borders;
He (Y)satisfies you with (Z)the [j]finest of the wheat.
15 He sends forth His (AA)command to the earth;
His (AB)word runs very swiftly.
16 He gives (AC)snow like wool;
He scatters the (AD)frost like ashes.
17 He casts forth His (AE)ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His (AF)cold?
18 He (AG)sends forth His word and melts them;
He (AH)causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow.
19 He (AI)declares His words to Jacob,
His (AJ)statutes and His ordinances to Israel.
20 He (AK)has not dealt thus with any nation;
And as for His ordinances, they have (AL)not known them.
[k]Praise [l]the Lord!
Offering First Fruits
26 “Then it shall be, when you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, and you possess it and live in it, 2 that you shall take some of (A)the first of all the produce of the ground which you bring in from your land that the Lord your God gives you, and you shall put it in a basket and (B)go to the place where the Lord your God chooses to establish His name. 3 You shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘I declare this day to the Lord [a]my God that I have entered the land which the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’ 4 Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the altar of the Lord your God. 5 You shall answer and say before the Lord your God, ‘(C)My father was a [b]wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and [c]sojourned there, (D)few in number; but there he became a (E)great, mighty and populous nation. 6 And the (F)Egyptians treated us harshly and afflicted us, and imposed hard labor on us. 7 Then (G)we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression; 8 (H)and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and wonders; 9 and He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, (I)a land flowing with milk and honey. 10 Now behold, I have brought the first of the produce of the ground (J)which You, O Lord have given me.’ And you shall set it down before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God; 11 and you and (K)the Levite and the alien who is among you shall (L)rejoice in all the good which the Lord your God has given you and your household.
Words to the People
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you (A)seek Me, not because you saw (B)signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not (C)work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to (D)eternal life, which (E)the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, (F)has set His seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is (G)the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He (H)has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “(I)What then do You do for a (J)sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 (K)Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘(L)He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is [a]that which (M)comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always (N)give us this bread.”
35 Jesus said to them, “(O)I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me (P)will never thirst.
The Lord Extolled for His Goodness.
A Psalm of Praise, of David.
145 I will (A)extol You, (B)my God, O King,
And I will (C)bless Your name forever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless You,
And I will (D)praise Your name forever and ever.
3 (E)Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised,
And His (F)greatness is unsearchable.
4 One (G)generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.
5 On the (H)glorious [a]splendor of Your majesty
And (I)on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
6 Men shall speak of the [b]power of Your (J)awesome acts,
And I will (K)tell of Your greatness.
7 They shall [c]eagerly utter the memory of Your (L)abundant goodness
And will (M)shout joyfully of Your righteousness.
8 The Lord is (N)gracious and merciful;
Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
9 The Lord is (O)good to all,
And His (P)mercies are over all His works.
10 (Q)All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord,
And Your (R)godly ones shall bless You.
11 They shall speak of the (S)glory of Your kingdom
And talk of Your power;
12 To (T)make known to the sons of men [d]Your mighty acts
And the (U)glory of the majesty of [e]Your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is [f]an (V)everlasting kingdom,
And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
14 The Lord (W)sustains all who fall
And (X)raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all [g]look to You,
And You (Y)give them their food in due time.
16 You (Z)open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is (AA)righteous in all His ways
And kind in all His deeds.
18 The Lord is (AB)near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him (AC)in truth.
19 He will (AD)fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also (AE)hear their cry and will save them.
20 The Lord (AF)keeps all who love Him,
But all the (AG)wicked He will destroy.
21 My (AH)mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
And (AI)all flesh will (AJ)bless His holy name forever and ever.
Christian Conduct
12 But we request of you, brethren, that you [a](A)appreciate those (B)who diligently labor among you, and (C)have charge over you in the Lord and give you [b]instruction, 13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. (D)Live in peace with one another. 14 We urge you, brethren, admonish (E)the [c]unruly, encourage (F)the fainthearted, help (G)the weak, be (H)patient with everyone. 15 See that (I)no one repays another with evil for evil, but always (J)seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. 16 (K)Rejoice always; 17 (L)pray without ceasing; 18 in everything (M)give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 (N)Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise (O)prophetic [d]utterances. 21 But (P)examine everything carefully; (Q)hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every [e]form of evil.
23 Now (R)may the God of peace (S)Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your (T)spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, (U)without blame at (V)the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 (W)Faithful is He who (X)calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
