41 Unto the end, understanding for the sons of Core.

² As the hart panteth after the fountains of water; so my soul panteth after thee, O God.

³ My soul hath thirsted after the strong living God; when shall I come and appear before the face of God?

⁴ My tears have been my bread day and night, whilst it is said to me daily: Where is thy God?

⁵ These things I remembered, and poured out my soul in me: for I shall go over into the place of the wonderful tabernacle, even to the house of God: With the voice of joy and praise; the noise of one feasting.

⁶ Why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou trouble me? Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance,

⁷ And my God. My soul is troubled within myself: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan and Hermoniim, from the little hill.

⁸ Deep calleth on deep, at the noise of thy flood-gates. All thy heights and thy billows have passed over me.

⁹ In the daytime the Lord hath commanded his mercy; and a canticle to him in the night. With me is prayer to the God of my life.

¹⁰ I will say to God: Thou art my support. Why hast thou forgotten me? and why go I mourning, whilst my enemy afflicteth me?

¹¹ Whilst my bones are broken, my enemies who trouble me have reproached me; Whilst they say to me day be day: Where is thy God?

¹² Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? Hope thou in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

52 Unto the end, for Maeleth, understandings to David. The fool said in his heart: There is no God.

² They are corrupted, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that doth good.

³ God looked down from heaven on the children of men: to see if there were any that did understand, or did seek God.

⁴ All have gone aside, they are become unprofitable together, there is none that doth good, no not one.

⁵ Shall not all the workers of iniquity know, who eat up my people as they eat bread?

⁶ They have not called upon God: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear. For God hath scattered the bones of them that please men: they have been confounded, because God hath despised them.

⁷ Who will give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when God shall bring back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

44 Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved.

² My heart hath uttered a good word I speak my works to the king; My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly.

³ Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever.

⁴ Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty.

⁵ With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.

⁶ Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king's enemies.

⁷ Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.

⁸ Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

⁹ Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which

¹⁰ The daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.

¹¹ Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father's house.

¹² And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.

¹³ And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.

¹⁴ All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,

¹⁵ Clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee.

¹⁶ They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king.

¹⁷ Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.

¹⁸ They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever.

⁴ He that is hasty to give credit, is light of heart, and shall be lessened: and he that sinneth against his own soul, shall be despised.

⁵ He that rejoiceth in iniquity, shall be censured, and he that hateth chastisement, shall have less life: and he that hateth babbling, extinguisheth evil.

⁶ He that sinneth against his own soul, shall repent: and he that is delighted with wickedness, shall be condemned.

⁷ Rehearse not again a wicked and harsh word, and thou shalt not fare the worse.

⁸ Tell not thy mind to friend or foe: and if there be a sin with thee, disclose it not.

⁹ For he will hearken to thee, and will watch thee, and as it were defending thy sin he will hate thee, and so will he be with thee always.

¹⁰ Hast thou heard a word against thy neighbour? let it die within thee, trusting that it will not burst thee.

¹¹ At the hearing of a word the fool is in travail, as a woman groaning. in the bringing forth a child.

¹² As an arrow that sticketh in a man's thigh: so is a word in the heart of a fool.

¹³ Reprove a friend, lest he may not have understood, and say: I did it not: or if he did it, that he may do it no more.

¹⁴ Reprove thy neighbour, for it may be he hath not said it: and if he hath said it, that he may not say it again.

¹⁵ Admonish thy friend: for there is often a fault committed.

¹⁶ And believe not every word. There is one, that slippeth with the tongue, but not from his heart.

¹⁷ For who is there that hath not offended with his tongue? Admonish thy neighbour before thou threaten him.

11 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and it was said to me: Arise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar and them that adore therein.

² But the court, which is without the temple, cast out, and measure it not: because it is given unto the Gentiles, and the holy city they shall tread under foot two and forty months:

³ And I will give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.

⁴ These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks, that stand before the Lord of the earth.

⁵ And if any man will hurt them, fire shall come out of their mouths, and shall devour their enemies. And if any man will hurt them, in this manner must he be slain.

⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and they have power over waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues as often as they will.

⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast, that ascendeth out of the abyss, shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

⁸ And their bodies shall lie in the streets of the great city, which is called spiritually, Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord also was crucified.

⁹ And they of the tribes, and peoples, and tongues, and nations, shall see their bodies for three days and a half: and they shall not suffer their bodies to be laid in sepulchres.

¹⁰ And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry: and shall send gifts one to another, because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt upon the earth.

¹¹ And after three days and a half, the spirit of life from God entered into them. And they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell upon them that saw them.

¹² And they heard a great voice from heaven, saying to them: Come up hither. And they went up to heaven in a cloud: and their enemies saw them.

¹³ And at that hour there was made a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell: and there were slain in the earthquake names of men seven thousand: and the rest were cast into a fear, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

¹⁴ The second woe is past: and behold the third woe will come quickly.

¹⁴ And he was casting out a devil, and the same was dumb: and when he had cast out the devil, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes were in admiration at it:

¹⁵ But some of them said: He casteth out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of devils.

¹⁶ And others tempting, asked of him a sign from heaven.

¹⁷ But he seeing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself, shall be brought to desolation, and house upon house shall fall.

¹⁸ And if Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say, that through Beelzebub I cast out devils.

¹⁹ Now if I cast out devils by Beelzebub; by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

²⁰ But if I by the finger of God cast out devils; doubtless the kingdom of God is come upon you.

²¹ When a strong man armed keepeth his court, those things are in peace which he possesseth.

²² But if a stronger than he come upon him, and overcome him; he will take away all his armour wherein he trusted, and will distribute his spoils.

²³ He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth.

²⁴ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through places without water, seeking rest; and not finding, he saith: I will return into my house whence I came out.

²⁵ And when he is come, he findeth it swept and garnished.

²⁶ Then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there. And the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.
