Book of Common Prayer
148 Praise ye the Lord! Praise ye the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the heights!
2 Praise ye Him, all His angels; praise ye Him, all His hosts!
3 Praise ye Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all ye stars of light!
4 Praise Him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for He commanded and they were created.
6 He hath also established them for ever and ever; He hath made a decree which shall not pass.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons and all deeps,
8 fire and hail, snow and vapors, stormy wind fulfilling His word,
9 mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all cattle, creeping things and flying fowl,
11 kings of the earth and all people, princes and all judges of the earth,
12 both young men and maidens, old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven.
14 He also exalteth the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near unto Him. Praise ye the Lord!
149 Praise ye the Lord! Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints!
2 Let Israel rejoice in Him that made him; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise His name in the dance; let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the Lord taketh pleasure in His people; He will beautify the meek with salvation.
5 Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand
7 to execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
8 to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 to execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all His saints. Praise ye the Lord!
150 Praise ye the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the psaltery and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and organs!
5 Praise Him upon the loud cymbals; praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals!
6 Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord! Praise ye the Lord!
114 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language,
2 Judah was His sanctuary, and Israel His dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled; Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? Thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and ye little hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
115 Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy and for Thy truth’s sake.
2 Why should the heathen say, “Where now is their God?”
3 But our God is in the heavens; He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
5 They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not.
6 They have ears, but they hear not; noses have they, but they smell not.
7 They have hands, but they handle not; feet have they, but they walk not; neither speak they through their throat.
8 They that make them are like unto them; so is everyone that trusteth in them.
9 O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: He is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: He is their help and their shield.
11 Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord hath been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.
14 The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children.
15 Ye are blessed by the Lord who made heaven and earth.
16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth hath He given to the children of men.
17 The dead praise not the Lord, neither do any that go down into silence.
18 But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the Lord!
10 Moreover, brethren, I would not have ye ignorant of how all of our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
2 and all were baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea.
3 And all ate the same spiritual meat,
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed — and three and twenty thousand fell in one day.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted — and were destroyed by serpents.
10 Neither should ye murmur, as some of them also murmured — and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them by way of example, and are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Therefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken hold of you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 And they said, “Some say that Thou art John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, “Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but My Father who is in Heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.”
20 Then He charged His disciples that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ.
