Book of Common Prayer
87 His foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God! Selah
4 “I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know Me; behold, Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia: ‘This man was born there.’”
5 And of Zion it shall be said, “This and that man were born in her; and the Highest Himself shall establish her.”
6 The Lord shall count, when He writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah
7 Singers as well as players on instruments shall be there and say, “All my springs are in thee.”
90 Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.
3 Thou turnest man to destruction, and sayest, “Return, ye children of men.”
4 For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up;
6 in the morning it flourisheth and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down and withereth.
7 For we are consumed by Thine anger, and by Thy wrath are we troubled.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before Thee, our secret sins in the light of Thy countenance.
9 For all our days are passed away in Thy wrath; we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away.
11 Who knoweth the power of Thine anger? Even according to the fear of Thee, so is Thy wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord! How long? And let Thee repent concerning Thy servants.
14 O satisfy us early with Thy mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
16 Let Thy work appear unto Thy servants, and Thy glory unto their children.
17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish Thou the work of our hands for us—yea, the work of our hands, establish Thou it.
136 O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endureth for ever.
2 O give thanks unto the God of gods, for His mercy endureth for ever.
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His mercy endureth for ever;
4 to Him who alone doeth great wonders, for His mercy endureth for ever;
5 to Him that by wisdom made the heavens, for His mercy endureth for ever;
6 to Him that stretched out the earth above the waters, for His mercy endureth for ever;
7 to Him that made great lights, for His mercy endureth for ever;
8 the sun to rule by day, for His mercy endureth for ever;
9 the moon and stars to rule by night, for His mercy endureth for ever;
10 to Him that smote Egypt in their firstborn, for His mercy endureth for ever;
11 and brought out Israel from among them, for His mercy endureth for ever;
12 with a strong hand and with a stretched out arm, for His mercy endureth for ever;
13 to Him who divided the Red Sea into parts, for His mercy endureth for ever;
14 and made Israel to pass through the midst of it, for His mercy endureth for ever;
15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for His mercy endureth for ever;
16 to Him who led His people through the wilderness, for His mercy endureth for ever;
17 to Him who smote great kings, for His mercy endureth for ever;
18 and slew famous kings, for His mercy endureth for ever;
19 Sihon king of the Amorites, for His mercy endureth for ever;
20 and Og the king of Bashan, for His mercy endureth for ever;
21 and gave their land as a heritage, for His mercy endureth for ever;
22 even a heritage unto Israel His servant, for His mercy endureth for ever;
23 who remembered us in our low estate, for His mercy endureth for ever;
24 and hath redeemed us from our enemies, for His mercy endureth for ever;
25 who giveth food to all flesh, for His mercy endureth for ever:
26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven, for His mercy endureth for ever!
1 The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
2 The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea: And the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms; for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord.”
3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, who conceived and bore him a son.
4 And the Lord said unto him, “Call his name Jezreel; for in yet a little while I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.”
6 And she conceived again, and bore a daughter. And God said unto him, “Call her name Loruhamah [that is, Not having obtained mercy]; for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel, but I will utterly take them away.
7 But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.”
8 Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived and bore a son.
9 Then said God, “Call his name Loammi [that is, Not My people], for ye are not My people, and I will not be your God.
10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, ‘Ye are not My people,’ there it shall be said unto them, ‘Ye are the sons of the living God.’
11 Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head; and they shall come up out of the land, for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
2 “Say ye unto your brethren, ‘Ammi’ [that is, My people], and to your sisters, ‘Ruhamah’ [that is, Having obtained mercy].
20 And after the uproar had ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed to go into Macedonia.
2 And when he had gone through those parts and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece.
3 And there he abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail for Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.
4 And there accompanied him into Asia, Sopater of Berea, and Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and from Asia, Tychichus and Trophimus.
5 These, going ahead, tarried for us at Troas.
6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread and came unto them in five days at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow, and continued his speech until midnight.
8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber where they were gathered together.
9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, having fallen into a deep sleep; and as Paul was long in preaching, he sank down with sleep and fell down from the third floor and was taken up dead.
10 And Paul went down and fell on him and, embracing him, said, “Trouble not yourselves, for his life is in him.”
11 When he therefore had come up again, and had broken bread and eaten and talked for a long while, even until break of day, he departed.
12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
13 And we went ahead to the ship and sailed for Assos, there intending to take aboard Paul; for so had he arranged, intending himself to go on foot.
14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene.
15 And we sailed thence and arrived the next day off Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus.
16 For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia; for he was in haste, that it might be possible for him to be at Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.
38 And He arose out of the synagogue and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever, and they besought Him for her.
39 And He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out and saying, “Thou art Christ, the Son of God!” And He, rebuking them, suffered them not to speak; for they knew that He was Christ.
42 And when it was day, He departed and went into a desert place. And the people sought Him and came unto Him and would have stayed Him, that He should not depart from them.
43 But He said unto them, “I must preach the Kingdom of God to other cities also, for therefore am I sent.”
44 And He preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
