Paul Sees a Vision of a Macedonian Asking For His Help, And Makes Plans To Go

⁶ And they went through the Phrygian^[a] and Galatian region, having been forbidden^[b] by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. ⁷ And having come opposite Mysia, they were trying to proceed into Bithynia and the Spirit of ^[c] Jesus did not allow them. ⁸ And having passed-by^[d] Mysia, they came down to Troas. ⁹ And a vision appeared to Paul during the night— a certain Macedonian man^[e] was standing and appealing-to him, and saying, “Having crossed to Macedonia, help us”. ¹⁰ And when he saw the vision, immediately we^[f] sought to go forth to Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to announce-the-good-news-to them.

In Philippi, Paul Meets Lydia And She Becomes a Believer

¹¹ And having put-to-sea from Troas, we ran-a-straight-course to Samothrace, and on the following day to Neapolis. ¹² And from there we went to Philippi, which is a city of the first^[g] district of Macedonia, a colony^[h]. And we were spending some days in this city. ¹³ And on the day of the Sabbath, we went outside the gate beside a river where we were supposing that there was a place of prayer^[i]. And having sat-down, we were speaking to the women having come together. ¹⁴ And a certain woman worshiping God— Lydia by name, a purple-fabric-dealer from the city of Thyatira— was listening, whose heart the Lord opened to pay-attention-to the things being spoken by Paul. ¹⁵ And when she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be a believer^[j] in the Lord, then having entered into my house, be staying with me”. And she prevailed-upon us.

⁹ Then the large crowd^[a] of the Jews came-to-know that He was there. And they came— not because of Jesus only, but in order that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. ¹⁰ And the chief priests planned to kill Lazarus also, ¹¹ because many of the Jews were going-away and were believing in Jesus because of him.

¹² On the next day the large crowd^[b]— the one having come to the Feast— having heard^[c] that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, ¹³ took the branches of palm-trees and came out to meet Him. And they were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the One coming in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel”. ¹⁴ And Jesus, having found a young-donkey, sat on it, just as it has been written [in Zech 9:9]: ¹⁵ “Do not be fearing, daughter of Zion. Behold— your King is coming, sitting on a colt of a donkey”. ¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first. But when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written for^[d] Him, and that they did these things to Him. ¹⁷ Then the crowd^[e] was testifying— the one being with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead. ¹⁸ For this reason also the crowd^[f] met Him— because they heard that He had done this sign. ¹⁹ Then the Pharisees said to themselves, “You see that you are profiting nothing! Look— the world went after Him!”
