Book of Common Prayer
18 I will love Thee, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
4 The sorrows of death encompassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death lay before me.
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord and cried unto my God; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, even unto His ears.
7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because He was wroth.
8 There went up smoke out of His nostrils, and a devouring fire out of His mouth; coals were kindled by it.
9 He bowed the heavens also and came down; and darkness was under His feet.
10 And He rode upon a cherub and flew; yea, He flew upon the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion round about Him was dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
12 At the brightness that was before Him, His thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.
13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest uttered His voice with hail stones and coals of fire.
14 Yea, He sent out His arrows and scattered them; and He shot out lightnings and discomfited them.
15 Then the channels of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at Thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Thy nostrils.
16 He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.
17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me, for they were too strong for me.
18 They came against me in the day of my calamity; but the Lord was my stay.
19 He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me.
20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all His judgments were before me, and I did not put away His statutes from me.
23 I was also upright before Him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.
24 Therefore hath the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.
25 With the merciful Thou wilt show Thyself merciful; with an upright man Thou wilt show Thyself upright;
26 with the pure Thou wilt show Thyself pure; and with the froward Thou wilt show Thyself froward.
27 For Thou wilt save the afflicted people, but wilt bring down haughty looks.
28 For Thou wilt light my candle; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
29 For by Thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.
30 As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proved; He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.
31 For who is God, except the Lord? Or who is a rock, except our God?
32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
33 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.
34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that the bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
35 Thou hast also given me the shield of Thy salvation; Thy right hand hath held me up, and Thy gentleness hath made me great.
36 Thou hast enlarged my path under me, that my feet did not slip.
37 I have pursued mine enemies and overtaken them; neither did I turn back until they were consumed.
38 I have wounded them, that they were not able to rise; they have fallen under my feet.
39 For Thou hast girded me with strength for the battle; Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
41 They cried, but there was none to save them, even unto the Lord, but He answered them not.
42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and Thou hast made me the head of the heathen; a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me; the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.
45 The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.
46 The Lord liveth, and blessed be my Rock! And let the God of my salvation be exalted!
47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me;
48 He delivereth me from mine enemies. Yea, Thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me; Thou hast delivered me from violent men.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto Thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto Thy name.
50 Great deliverance giveth He to His king and showeth mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed for evermore.
18 “And I commanded you at that time, saying, ‘The Lord your God hath given you this land to possess it. Ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all who are meet for the war.
19 But your wives and your little ones and your cattle (for I know that ye have much cattle) shall abide in your cities which I have given you,
20 until the Lord shall have given rest unto your brethren as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the Lord your God hath given them beyond the Jordan; and then shall ye return every man unto his possession which I have given you.’
21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, ‘Thine eyes have seen all that the Lord your God hath done unto these two kings; so shall the Lord do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.
22 Ye shall not fear them, for the Lord your God He shall fight for you.’
23 “And I besought the Lord at that time, saying,
24 ‘O Lord God, Thou hast begun to show Thy servant Thy greatness and Thy mighty hand; for what God is there in heaven or in earth who can do according to Thy works and according to Thy might?
25 I pray Thee, let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.’
26 But the Lord was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me. And the Lord said unto me: ‘Let it suffice thee: speak no more unto Me of this matter.
27 Get thee up onto the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward and northward and southward and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes; for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.’
19 Thou wilt say then unto me, “Why doth He yet find fault, for who hath resisted His will?”
20 But nay, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, “Why hast thou made me thus?”
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay to make from the same lump one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor?
22 What if God, choosing to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted for destruction;
23 and this, that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, whom He had prepared before unto glory,
24 even us whom He hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25 As He saith also in Hosea: “I will call them ‘My people,’ who were not My people, and ‘her beloved’ who was not beloved.”
26 And, “It shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, ‘Ye are not My people,’ there shall they be called the children of the living God.”
27 Isaiah also crieth concerning Israel: “Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved.
28 For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.”
29 And as Isaiah said before: “Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we would have been as Sodom and been made like unto Gomorrah.”
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith;
31 but Israel, who followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32 Why so? Because they sought it not by faith but, as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
33 As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, and whosoever believeth in Him shall not be ashamed.”
24 And Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, “See ye not all these things? Verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.”
3 And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Thy coming and of the end of the world?”
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, “Take heed that no man deceive you;
5 for many shall come in My name, saying, ‘I am Christ,’ and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that ye be not troubled, for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.
10 And then shall many lose faith and shall betray one another and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.
