72 Give the king Thy judgments, O God, and Thy righteousness unto the king’s son.
2 Then shall he judge Thy people with righteousness, and Thy poor with judgment.
3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people and the little hills, by righteousness.
4 He shall judge the poor of the people; he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
5 They shall fear Thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.
7 In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him; all nations shall serve him.
12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also and him that hath no helper.
13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given from the gold of Sheba; prayer also shall be made for him continually, and daily shall he be praised.
16 There shall be corn by the handful in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall wave like Lebanon, and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
17 His name shall endure for ever, his name shall be continued as long as the sun, and men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him blessed.
18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone doeth wondrous things.
19 And blessed be His glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with His glory! Amen and Amen.
20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 And he had two wives: the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.
4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters, portions.
5 But unto Hannah he gave a double portion, for he loved Hannah; but the Lord had shut up her womb.
6 And her adversary also provoked her sorely to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb.
7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.
8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, “Hannah, why weepest thou? And why eatest thou not? And why is thy heart grieved? Am not I better to thee than ten sons?”
9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh and after they had drunk. (Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord.)
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord and wept sorely.
11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if Thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of Thine handmaid, and remember me and not forget Thine handmaid, but wilt give unto Thine handmaid a manchild, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.”
12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli observed her mouth.
13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14 And Eli said unto her, “How long wilt thou be drunken? Put away thy wine from thee.”
15 And Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.
16 Count not thine handmaid as a daughter of Belial, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.”
17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace; and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of Him.”
18 And she said, “Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her countenance was no more sad.
19 And they rose up in the morning early and worshiped before the Lord, and returned and came to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her.
20 Therefore it came to pass, when the time had come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bore a son and called his name Samuel [that is, Asked of God], saying, “Because I have asked him of the Lord.”
3 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus,
2 who was faithful to Him that appointed Him, as also Moses was faithful in all His house.
3 For this Man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who hath built the house hath more honor than the house.
4 For every house is built by some man, but He that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all His house as a servant, as a testimony of those things which were to be spoken thereafter;
6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His own house, whose house are we if we hold fast the confidence and rejoicing of the hope, firm unto the end.
146 Praise ye the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 While I live will I praise the Lord; I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in a son of man in whom there is no help.
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that therein is, who keepeth truth for ever;
7 who executeth judgment for the oppressed, who giveth food to the hungry; the Lord looseth the prisoners.
8 The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind; the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down; the Lord loveth the righteous.
9 The Lord preserveth the strangers, He relieveth the fatherless and the widow; but the way of the wicked He turneth upside down.
10 The Lord shall reign for ever, even Thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord!
147 Praise ye the Lord! For it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.
2 The Lord doth build up Jerusalem; He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
4 He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and of great power; His understanding is infinite.
6 The Lord lifteth up the meek; He casteth the wicked down to the ground.
7 Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God,
8 who covereth the heavens with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
9 He giveth to the beast his food and to the young ravens which cry.
10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse; He taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy.
12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise thy God, O Zion!
13 For He hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; He hath blessed thy children within thee.
14 He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
15 He sendeth forth His commandment upon the earth; His word runneth very swiftly.
16 He giveth snow like wool; He scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes;
17 He casteth forth His ice like morsels; who can stand before His cold?
18 He sendeth out His word, and melteth them; He causeth His wind to blow, and the waters flow.
19 He showeth His word unto Jacob, His statutes and His judgments unto Israel.
20 He hath not dealt so with any nation; and as for His judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord!
25 Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26 And they came unto John and said unto him, “Rabbi, He that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou bearest witness — behold, the same baptizeth and all men come to Him.”
27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing, unless it be given him from Heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but that ‘I am sent before Him.’
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This my joy, therefore, is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
