Book of Common Prayer
Vav.
41 May Your (A)lovingkindnesses also come to me, O Lord,
Your salvation (B)according to Your [a]word;
42 So I will have an (C)answer for him who (D)reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
For I [b](E)wait for Your ordinances.
44 So I will (F)keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will (G)walk [c]at liberty,
For I (H)seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies (I)before kings
And shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall [d](J)delight in Your commandments,
Which I (K)love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I (L)love;
And I will (M)meditate on Your statutes.
Zayin.
49 Remember the word to Your servant,
[e]In which You have made me hope.
50 This is my (N)comfort in my affliction,
That Your word has [f]revived me.
51 The arrogant (O)utterly deride me,
Yet I do not (P)turn aside from Your law.
52 I have (Q)remembered Your ordinances from [g]of old, O Lord,
And comfort myself.
53 Burning (R)indignation has seized me because of the wicked,
Who (S)forsake Your law.
54 Your statutes are my songs
In the house of my (T)pilgrimage.
55 O Lord, I (U)remember Your name (V)in the night,
And keep Your law.
56 This has become mine,
[h]That I (W)observe Your precepts.
Heth.
57 The Lord is my (X)portion;
I have [i]promised to (Y)keep Your words.
58 I (Z)sought Your favor (AA)with all my heart;
(AB)Be gracious to me (AC)according to Your [j]word.
59 I (AD)considered my ways
And turned my feet to Your testimonies.
60 I hastened and did not delay
To keep Your commandments.
61 The (AE)cords of the wicked have encircled me,
But I have (AF)not forgotten Your law.
62 At (AG)midnight I shall rise to give thanks to You
Because of Your (AH)righteous ordinances.
63 I am a (AI)companion of all those who [k]fear You,
And of those who keep Your precepts.
64 (AJ)The earth is full of Your lovingkindness, O Lord;
(AK)Teach me Your statutes.
11 For thus the Lord spoke to me [a]with (A)mighty power and instructed me (B)not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
12 “You are not to say, ‘It is a (C)conspiracy!’
In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy,
And (D)you are not to fear [b]what they fear or be in dread of it.
13 “It is the (E)Lord of hosts (F)whom you should regard as holy.
And He shall be your fear,
And He shall be your dread.
14 “Then He shall become a (G)sanctuary;
But to both the houses of Israel, a (H)stone to strike and a rock to stumble over,
And a snare and a (I)trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15 “Many (J)will stumble over them,
Then they will fall and be broken;
They will even be snared and caught.”
16 (K)Bind up the testimony, (L)seal the [c]law among (M)my disciples. 17 And I will (N)wait for the Lord (O)who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; I will even look eagerly for Him. 18 (P)Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for (Q)signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who (R)dwells on Mount Zion.
19 When they say to you, “(S)Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people (T)consult their God? Should they (U)consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 To the [d](V)law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because (W)they have no dawn.
The Word of Faith Brings Salvation
10 Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. 2 For I testify about them that they have (A)a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. 3 For not knowing about (B)God’s righteousness and (C)seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For (D)Christ is the [a]end of the law for righteousness to (E)everyone who believes.
5 For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is [b]based on law (F)shall live [c]by that righteousness. 6 But (G)the righteousness [d]based on faith speaks as follows: “(H)Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), 7 or ‘Who will descend into the (I)abyss?’ (that is, to (J)bring Christ up from the dead).” 8 But what does it say? “(K)The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 [e]that (L)if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and (M)believe in your heart that (N)God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, [f]resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, [g]resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “(O)Whoever believes in Him will not be [h]disappointed.” 12 For (P)there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is (Q)Lord of (R)all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “(S)Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him (T)whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without (U)a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “(V)How beautiful are the feet of those who [i](W)bring good news of good things!”
The Works and the Word of God.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
19 The (A)heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their (B)expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to (C)day pours forth speech,
And (D)night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their [a](E)line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has (F)placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6 Its (G)rising is from [b]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [c]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 (H)The law of the Lord is [d](I)perfect, (J)restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is (K)sure, making (L)wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are (M)right, (N)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is (O)pure, (P)enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are (Q)true; they are (R)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (S)gold, yes, than much fine gold;
(T)Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them (U)Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great (V)reward.
12 Who can (W)discern his errors? (X)Acquit me of (Y)hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your servant (Z)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (AA)rule over me;
Then I will be [e](AB)blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of (AC)great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and (AD)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, (AE)my rock and my (AF)Redeemer.
Prosperity of the One Who Fears the Lord.
112 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
How (A)blessed is the man who [c]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (B)delights in His commandments.
2 His [d](C)descendants will be mighty [e]on earth;
The generation of the (D)upright will be blessed.
3 (E)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light arises in the darkness (F)for the upright;
He is (G)gracious and compassionate and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who (H)is gracious and lends;
He will [f]maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will (I)never be shaken;
The (J)righteous will be [g]remembered forever.
Hidden Treasure
44 “(A)The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and (B)sells all that he has and buys that field.
A Costly Pearl
45 “Again, (C)the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
A Dragnet
47 “Again, (D)the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind; 48 and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49 So it will be at (E)the [a]end of the age; the angels will come forth and [b]take out the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and (F)will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place (G)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 “Have you understood all these things?” They *said to Him, “Yes.” 52 And [c]Jesus said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”
