Psalm 97

97 1 The Prophet exhorteth all to rejoice for the coming of the kingdom of Christ, 7 dreadful to the rebels and idolaters,  8 and joyful to the just, whom he exhorteth to innocency, 12 to rejoicing and thanksgiving.

The [a]Lord reigneth: let the earth rejoice: let the [b]multitude of the Isles be glad.

[c]Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.

There shall go a fire before him, and burn up his enemies round about.

His lightnings gave light unto the world: the earth saw it and was [d]afraid.

The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

[e]Confounded be all they that serve graven images, and that glory in idols: worship him [f]all ye gods.

Zion heard of it, and was glad: and the [g]daughters of Judah rejoiced, because of thy judgments, O Lord.

For thou, Lord, art most High above all the earth: thou art much exalted above all gods.

10 Ye that [h]love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his Saints: he will deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

11 [i]Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice ye righteous in the Lord, and give thanks for his holy [j]remembrance.

Psalm 99-100

99 1 He commendeth the power, equity, and excellency of the kingdom of God by Christ over the Jews and Gentiles, 5 And provoketh them to magnify the same, and to serve the Lord, 6 following the example of the ancient fathers, Moses, Aaron, Samuel, who calling upon God, were heard in their prayers.

The Lord reigneth, let the [a]people tremble: he sitteth between the (A)Cherubims, let the earth be moved.

The Lord is great in Zion, and he is high above all the people.

They shall [b]praise thy great and fearful Name (for it is holy.)

And the King’s power, that loveth judgment: for thou hast prepared equity: thou hast executed judgment and justice in Jacob.

Exalt the Lord our God, and fall down before his [c]footstool: for he is holy.

Moses and Aaron were among his Priests, [d]and Samuel among such as call upon his Name: these called upon the Lord, and he heard them.

He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the Law that he gave them.

Thou heardest them, O Lord our God: thou wast a favorable God unto them, though thou didst take vengeance for [e]their inventions.

Exalt the Lord our God and fall down before his holy Mountain: for the Lord our God is holy.

100 1 He exhorteth all to serve the Lord, 3 who hath chosen us, and preserved us, 4 and to enter into his assemblies to praise his Name.

A Psalm of praise.

Sing [f]ye loud unto the Lord, all the earth.

Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyfulness.

Know ye that even the Lord is God; he hath [g]made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

[h]Enter into his gates with praise, and into his courts with rejoicing: praise him and bless his Name.

For the Lord is good: his mercy is [i]everlasting, and his truth is from generation to generation.

Psalm 94-95

94 1 He prayeth unto God against the violence and arrogance of tyrants, 10 warning them of God’s judgments. 12 Then doth he comfort the afflicted by the good issue of their afflictions, as he felt in himself, and did set in others, and by the ruin of the wicked, 23 whom the Lord will destroy.

O Lord God [a]the avenger, O God the avenger, show thyself [b]clearly.

Exalt thyself, O Judge of the world, and render a reward to the proud.

Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked [c]triumph?

They prate and speak fiercely: all the workers of iniquity vaunt themselves.

They [d]smite down thy people, O Lord, and trouble thine heritage.

They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

[e]Yet they say, The Lord shall not see: neither will the God of Jacob regard it.

Understand, ye unwise among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

He that [f]planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

10 Or he that chastiseth the [g]nations, shall he not correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall he not know?

11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom thou [h]chastisest, O Lord, and teachest him in thy Law,

13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of evil, while the pit is dug for the wicked.

14 Surely the Lord will not fail his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

15 For [i]judgment shall return to justice, and all the upright in heart shall follow after it.

16 Who will rise up with me against the wicked? or who will take my part against the workers of iniquity?

17 If the Lord had not [j]helped me, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

18 When I said, [k]My foot slideth, thy mercy, O Lord, stayed me.

19 In the multitude of my [l]thoughts in mine heart, thy comforts have rejoiced my soul.

20 Hath the throne of iniquity [m]fellowship with thee, which forgeth wrong for a Law?

21 They gather them together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

22 But the Lord is my refuge, and my God is the rock of mine hope.

23 And he will recompense them their wickedness, and [n]destroy them in their own malice, yea, the Lord our God shall destroy them.

95 1 An earnest exhortation to praise God, 4 for the government of the world and the election of the Church. 8 An admonition not to follow the rebellion of the old fathers, that tempted God in the wilderness. 11 For the which they might not enter into the land of promise.

Come, let us rejoice unto the Lord: let us sing [o]aloud unto the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his face with praise: let us sing loud unto him with Psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all [p]gods,

In whose hand are the deep places of the earth, and the [q]heights of the mountains are his,

To whom the Sea belongeth, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us [r]worship and fall down, and kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his [s]hand: today, if ye will hear his voice,

[t]Harden not your heart, as in [u]Meribah, and as in the day of [v]Massah in the wilderness,

When your fathers (A)tempted me, proved me, though they had seen my work.

10 Forty years have I contended with this generation, and said, They are a people that [w]err in heart, for they have not known my ways.

11 Wherefore I sware in my wrath, saying, Surely they shall not enter into [x]my rest.

2 Samuel 14:1-20

14 2 Absalom is reconciled to his father by the subtlety of Joab. 24 Absalom may not see the King’s face. 25 The beauty of Absalom. 30 He causeth Joab’s corn to be burnt, and is brought to his father’s presence.

Then Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived, that the king’s [a]heart was toward Absalom,

And Joab sent to Tekoa, and brought thence a [b]subtle woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to mourn, and now put on mourning apparel, and [c]anoint not thyself with oil: but be as a woman that had now long time mourned for the dead.

And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him, (for Joab [d]taught her what she should say).

¶ Then the woman of Tekoa spake unto the king, and fell down on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, [e]Help, O King.

Then the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a [f]widow, and mine husband is dead:

And thine handmaid had two [g]sons, and they two strove together in the field, (and there was none to part them) so the one smote the other, and slew him.

And behold the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him for the [h]soul of his brother whom he slew, that we may destroy the heir also: so they shall quench my sparkle which is left, and shall not leave to mine husband neither name nor posterity upon the earth.

And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give a charge for thee.

Then the woman of Tekoa said unto the King, My lord, O King, this [i]trespass be on me, and on my father’s house, and the King and his throne be [j]guiltless.

10 And the King said, Bring him to me that speaketh against thee, and he shall touch thee no more.

11 Then said she, I pray thee, let the king [k]remember the Lord thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer many revengers of blood to destroy, lest they slay my son. And he answered, As the Lord liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.

12 Then the woman said, I pray thee, let thine handmaid speak a word to my lord the King. And he said, Say on.

13 Then the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou [l]thought such a thing against the people of God? or why doth the King, as one which is faulty, speak this thing, that he will not bring again his banished?

14 For we must needs die, and we are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again: neither doth God [m]spare any person, yet doth he appoint [n]means, not to cast out from him, him that is expelled.

15 Now therefore, that I am come to speak of this thing unto my lord the King, the cause is that the people [o]have made me afraid: therefore thine handmaid said, Now will I speak unto the King: it may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid.

16 For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me, and also my son from the inheritance of God.

17 Therefore thine handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be [p]comfortable: for my lord the King is even as an [q]Angel of God in hearing of good and bad: therefore the Lord thy God be with thee.

18 Then the king answered, and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.

19 And the king said, Is not [r]the hand of Joab with thee in all this? Then the woman answered, and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the King, I will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for even thy servant Joab bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid.

20 For to the intent that I [s]should change the form of speech, thy servant Joab hath done this thing: but [t]my lord is wise according to the wisdom of an Angel of God, to understand all things that are in the earth.

Acts 21:1-14

21 1 Paul goeth toward Jerusalem: 8 at Caesarea he talketh with Philip the Evangelist: 10 Agabus foretelleth him of his bonds. 17 After he came to Jerusalem, 26 and into the Temple, 27 The Jews laid hands on him: 32 Lysias the captain taketh him from them.

And [a]as we launched forth, and were departed from them, we came with a straight course unto Cos, and the day following unto the Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara.

And we found a ship that went over unto Phoenicia, and went aboard, and set forth.

And when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed toward Syria, and arrived at Tyre: for there the ship unladed the burden.

And when we had found disciples, we tarried there seven days. And they told Paul through the [b]Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

But when the days were ended, we departed and went our way, and they all accompanied us with their wives and children, even out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, prayed.

Then when we had embraced one another, we took ship, and they returned home.

And when we had ended the course from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

And the next day, Paul and we that were with him, departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of (A)Philip the Evangelist, which was one of the [c]seven Deacons, and abode with him.

Now he had four daughters, virgins, which did [d]prophesy.

10 And as we tarried there many days, there came a certain Prophet from Judea, named Agabus.

11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

12 And when we had heard these things, both we and others of the same place besought him that he would not go up to Jerusalem.

13 Then Paul answered, and said, What do ye weeping and breaking mine heart? For I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the Name of the Lord Jesus.

14 [e]So when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

Mark 10:1-16

10 9 The wife, only for fornication, is to be put away. 13 Little children are brought to Christ. 17 A rich man asketh Jesus, how he may possess eternal life. 28 The Apostles forsook all things for Christ’s sake. 33 Christ foreshoweth his death. 35 Zebedee’s sons’ request. 46 Blind Bartimaeus healed.

And (A)he [a]arose from thence, and went into the coasts of Judea by the far side of Jordan, and the people resorted unto him again, and as he was wont, he taught them again.

Then the Pharisees came and asked him, if it were lawful for a man to put away his wife, and tempted him.

And he answered, and said unto them, What did (B)Moses command you?

And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

[b]Then Jesus answered, and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote this [c]precept unto you.

But at the beginning of the creation (C)God made them male and female:

(D)For this cause shall man leave his father and mother, and cleave unto his wife.

And they twain shall be one flesh: so that they are no more twain, but one flesh.

(E)Therefore, what God hath coupled together, let not man separate.

10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of that matter.

11 And he said unto them, (F)whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another, commiteth adultery [d]against her.

12 And if a woman put away her husband, and be married to another, she commiteth adultery.

13 (G)[e]Then they brought little children to him, that he should touch them, and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, he was displeased, and said to them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God [f]as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16 And he took them up in his arms, and put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
