Psalm 85

Restoration of Favor

For the choir director. A psalm of the sons of Korah.

Lord, You showed favor to Your land;(A)
You restored Jacob’s prosperity.[a](B)
You took away Your people’s guilt;
You covered all their sin.(C)Selah
You withdrew all Your fury;
You turned from Your burning anger.(D)

Return to us, God of our salvation,
and abandon Your displeasure with us.(E)
Will You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger for all generations?(F)
Will You not revive us again
so that Your people may rejoice in You?(G)
Show us Your faithful love, Lord,
and give us Your salvation.(H)

I will listen to what God will say;
surely the Lord will declare peace
to His people, His godly ones,
and not let them go back to foolish ways.(I)
His salvation is very near those who fear Him,
so that glory may dwell in our land.(J)

10 Faithful love and truth will join together;
righteousness and peace will embrace.(K)
11 Truth will spring up from the earth,
and righteousness will look down from heaven.(L)
12 Also, the Lord will provide what is good,
and our land will yield its crops.(M)
13 Righteousness will go before Him
to prepare the way for His steps.(N)

Psalm 86

Lament and Petition

A Davidic prayer.

Listen, Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.(O)
Protect my life, for I am faithful.(P)
You are my God; save Your servant who trusts in You.(Q)
Be gracious to me, Lord,
for I call to You all day long.(R)
Bring joy to Your servant’s life,
because I turn to You, Lord.(S)

For You, Lord, are kind and ready to forgive,(T)
rich in faithful love to all who call on You.(U)
Lord, hear my prayer;
listen to my plea for mercy.(V)
I call on You in the day of my distress,
for You will answer me.(W)

Lord, there is no one like You among the gods,
and there are no works like Yours.(X)
All the nations You have made
will come and bow down before You, Lord,
and will honor Your name.(Y)
10 For You are great and perform wonders;
You alone are God.(Z)

11 Teach me Your way, Yahweh,
and I will live by Your truth.
Give me an undivided mind to fear Your name.(AA)
12 I will praise You with all my heart, Lord my God,
and will honor Your name forever.(AB)
13 For Your faithful love for me is great,
and You deliver my life from the depths of Sheol.(AC)

14 God, arrogant people have attacked me;
a gang of ruthless men seeks my life.
They have no regard for You.(AD)
15 But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth.(AE)
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me.
Give Your strength to Your servant;
save the son of Your female servant.(AF)
17 Show me a sign of Your goodness;
my enemies will see and be put to shame
because You, Lord, have helped and comforted me.(AG)

Psalm 91-92

Psalm 91

The Protection of the Most High

The one who lives under the protection of the Most High
dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.(A)

I will say[a] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”(B)

He Himself will deliver you from the hunter’s net,(C)
from the destructive plague.
He will cover you with His feathers;
you will take refuge under His wings.(D)
His faithfulness will be a protective shield.(E)
You will not fear the terror of the night,
the arrow that flies by day,(F)
the plague that stalks in darkness,
or the pestilence that ravages at noon.(G)
Though a thousand fall at your side
and ten thousand at your right hand,
the pestilence will not reach you.(H)
You will only see it with your eyes
and witness the punishment of the wicked.(I)

Because you have made the Lord—my refuge,(J)
the Most High—your dwelling place,(K)
10 no harm will come to you;
no plague will come near your tent.(L)
11 For He will give His angels orders concerning you,
to protect you in all your ways.(M)
12 They will support you with their hands
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.(N)
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the young lion and the serpent.(O)

14 Because he is lovingly devoted to Me,
I will deliver him;
I will protect him because he knows My name.(P)
15 When he calls out to Me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble.
I will rescue him and give him honor.(Q)
16 I will satisfy him with a long life(R)
and show him My salvation.(S)

Psalm 92

God’s Love and Faithfulness

A psalm. A song for the Sabbath day.

It is good to praise Yahweh,
to sing praise to Your name, Most High,(T)
to declare Your faithful love in the morning
and Your faithfulness at night,(U)
with a ten-stringed harp
and the music of a lyre.(V)

For You have made me rejoice, Lord,
by what You have done;
I will shout for joy
because of the works of Your hands.(W)
How magnificent are Your works, Lord,
how profound Your thoughts!(X)
A stupid person does not know,
a fool does not understand this:(Y)
though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be eternally destroyed.(Z)
But You, Lord, are exalted forever.(AA)
For indeed, Lord, Your enemies—
indeed, Your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.(AB)
10 You have lifted up my horn(AC)
like that of a wild ox;
I have been anointed[b] with oil.(AD)
11 My eyes look down on my enemies;
my ears hear evildoers when they attack me.(AE)

12 The righteous thrive like a palm tree
and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon.(AF)
13 Planted in the house of the Lord,
they thrive in the courts of our God.(AG)
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
healthy and green,(AH)
15 to declare: “The Lord is just;
He is my rock,
and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”(AI)

Ezekiel 1:28-3:3

28 The appearance of the brilliant light all around was like that of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day.(A) This was the appearance of the form of the Lord’s glory.(B) When I saw it, I fell facedown and heard a voice speaking.(C)

Mission to Rebellious Israel

He said to me, “Son of man, stand up on your feet(D) and I will speak with you.” As He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet,(E) and I listened to the One who was speaking to me. He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to[a] the rebellious pagans[b] who have rebelled against Me. The Israelites and their ancestors have transgressed against Me to this day.(F) The children are obstinate[c] and hardhearted.(G) I am sending you to them, and you must say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says.’ Whether they listen or refuse to listen(H)—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them.(I)

“But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words,(J) though briers and thorns are beside you and you live among scorpions.(K) Don’t be afraid of their words or be discouraged by the look on their faces, for they are a rebellious house. But speak My words to them whether they listen or refuse to listen,(L) for they are rebellious.

“And you, son of man, listen to what I tell you: Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.”(M) So I looked and saw a hand reaching out to me,(N) and there was a written scroll in it.(O) 10 When He unrolled it before me, it was written on the front and back; words of lamentation, mourning, and woe were written on it.

He said to me: “Son of man, eat what you find here. Eat this scroll,(P) then go and speak to the house of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and He fed me the scroll. “Son of man,” He said to me, “eat[d] and fill your stomach with this scroll I am giving you.” So I ate it,(Q) and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.(R)

Hebrews 4:14-5:6

Our Great High Priest

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast to the confession.(A) 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are,(B) yet without sin.(C) 16 Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.

The Messiah, a High Priest

For every high priest taken from men is appointed in service[a] to God for the people, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he is also subject to weakness.(D) Because of this, he must make a sin offering for himself as well as for the people.(E) No one takes this honor on himself; instead, a person is called by God, just as Aaron was.(F) In the same way, the Messiah did not exalt Himself to become a high priest, but the One who said to Him, You are My Son; today I have become Your Father,(G)[b] also said in another passage, You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.(H)[c]

Luke 9:28-36

The Transfiguration

28 About eight days after these words,(A) He took along Peter, John, and James(B) and went up on the mountain to pray.(C) 29 As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed,(D) and His clothes became dazzling white.(E) 30 Suddenly, two men were talking with Him—Moses and Elijah. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of His death,[a] which He was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.

32 Peter and those with him were in a deep sleep,[b](F) and when they became fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who were standing with Him. 33 As the two men were departing from Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master,(G) it’s good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.(H)

34 While he was saying this, a cloud appeared and overshadowed(I) them. They became afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 Then a voice came from the cloud,(J) saying:

This is My Son,(K) the Chosen One;[c](L)
listen to Him!(M)

36 After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was found. They kept silent, and in those days told no one what they had seen.
