Psalm 89

89 1 With many words doth the Prophet praise the goodness of God, 23 For his testament and covenant, that he had made between him and his elect by Jesus Christ the son of David. 38 Then doth he complain of the great ruin, and desolation of the kingdom of David, so that to the outward appearance the promise was broken. 46 Finally, he prayeth to be delivered from his afflictions, making mention of the shortness of man’s life, and confirming himself by God’s promise.

A Psalm to give instruction, of Ethan the Ezrahite.

I will [a]sing the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth will I declare thy truth from generation to generation.

For I [b]said, Mercy shall be set up forever: thy truth shalt thou [c]stablish in the very heavens.

[d]I have made a covenant with my chosen: I have sworn to David my servant,

Thy seed will I stablish forever, and set up thy throne from generation to generation. Selah.

O Lord, even the [e]heavens shall praise thy wondrous work: yea, thy truth in the [f]Congregation of the Saints.

For who is equal to the Lord in the heaven? and who is like the Lord among the [g]sons of the gods?

God is very terrible in the assembly of the [h]Saints, and to be reverenced above all that are about him.

O Lord God of hosts, who is like unto thee, which art a mighty Lord, and thy truth is about thee?

[i]Thou rulest the raging of the Sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

10 Thou hast beaten down Rahab as a man slain: thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy mighty arm.

11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: thou hast laid the foundation of the world, and all that therein is.

12 Thou hast created the North and the South: [j]Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy Name.

13 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

14 [k]Righteousness and equity are the stablishment of thy throne: mercy and truth go before thy face.

15 Blessed is the people that can [l]rejoice in thee: they shall walk in the light of thy [m]countenance, O Lord.

16 They shall rejoice continually in thy Name, and in thy righteousness shall they exalt themselves.

17 For thou art the [n]glory of their strength, and by thy favor our horns shall be exalted.

18 For our [o]shield appertaineth to the Lord, and our King to the Holy one of Israel.

19 Thou spakest then in a vision unto [p]thine Holy one, and saidest, I have laid help upon one that is [q]mighty: I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

20 I have found David my servant: with mine holy oil have I anointed him.

21 Therefore mine hand shall be established with him, and mine arm shall strengthen him.

22 The enemy shall not oppress him, neither shall the wicked hurt him.

23 But I will [r]destroy his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.

24 My truth also and my [s]mercy shall be with him, and in my Name shall his [t]horn be exalted.

25 I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the [u]floods.

26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my [v]Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my Covenant shall stand fast with him.

29 His seed also will I make to endure [w]forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

30 But if his children forsake my Law, and walk not in my judgments:

31 (A)If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments:

32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes.

33 [x]Yet my loving kindness will I not take from him, neither will I falsify my truth.

34 My Covenant will I not break, nor [y]alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

35 I have sworn once by mine holiness, [z]that I will not fail David, saying,

36 His seed shall endure forever, and his throne shall be as the sun before me.

37 He shall be established for evermore as the moon, and as a faithful [aa]witness in the heaven. Selah.

38 But thou hast rejected and abhorred, thou hast been angry with thine anointed.

39 Thou hast [ab]broken the Covenant of thy servant, and profaned his [ac]crown, casting it on the ground.

40 Thou hast broken down all his walls: thou hast laid his fortresses in ruin.

41 All that go by the way, spoil him: he is a rebuke unto his neighbors.

42 Thou hast set up the right hand of his enemies, and made all his adversaries to rejoice.

43 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

44 Thou hast caused his dignity to decay, and cast his throne to the ground.

45 The days of his [ad]youth hast thou shortened, and covered him with shame. Selah.

46 [ae]Lord, how long wilt thou hide thyself, forever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?

47 Remember [af]of what time I am: wherefore shouldest thou create in vain all the children of men?

48 What man liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

49 Lord, where are thy former mercies, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?

50 Remember, O Lord, the rebuke of thy servants, which I bear in my [ag]bosom of all the mighty people.

51 For [ah]thine enemies have reproached thee, O Lord, because they have reproached the [ai]footsteps of thine Anointed.

52 Praised be the Lord for evermore. So be it, even so be it.

Jeremiah 16:10-21

10 And when thou shalt show this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, (A)Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great plague against us? or what is [a]our iniquity? and what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?

11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my Law,

12 ((B)And ye have done worse than your fathers: for behold, you walk everyone after the stubbornness of his wicked heart, and will not hear me.)

13 Therefore will I drive you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither you nor your fathers, and there ye shall serve other gods day and night: for I will show you no grace.

14 (C)Behold therefore saith the Lord, the days come that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt,

15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel [b]from the land of the North, and from all the lands where he had scattered them, and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

16 Behold, saith the Lord, I will send out many [c]fishers, and they shall fish them, and after will I send out many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the caves of the rocks.

17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have defiled my land, and have filled mine inheritance with their filthy [d]carrions and their abominations.

19 O Lord, thou art my [e]fortress, and my strength and my refuge in the day of affliction: the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the world, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited [f]lies, and vanity, wherein there was no profit.

20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

21 Behold, therefore I will this once [g]teach them: I will show them mine hand and my power, and they shall know that my Name is the Lord.

Romans 7:1-12

1 He declareth what it is, to be no more under the Law, 2 by an example taken of the Law of marriage, 7, 12 And lest the Law should seem faulty, 14 he proveth, that our sin is the cause, 2, 5 that the same is an occasion of death, 17 which was given us unto life. 21 He setteth out the battle between the flesh and the spirit.

Know [a]ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the Law) that the Law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

(A)For the woman which is in subjection to a man, is bound by the Law to the man, while he liveth: but if the man be dead, she is delivered from the Law of the man.

So then, if while the man liveth, she taketh another man, she shall be [b]called an (B)adulteress: but if the man be dead, she is free from the Law, so that she is not an adulteress, though she take another man.

[c]So ye, my brethren, are dead also to the Law by the [d]body of Christ, that ye should be unto another, even unto him that is raised up from the dead, that we should bring forth [e]fruit unto [f]God.

[g]For when we [h]were in the flesh, the [i]affections of sins, which were by the [j]law, had [k]force in our members, to bring forth fruit unto death,

But now we are delivered from the Law, he [l]being dead [m]in whom we were [n]holden, that we should serve in [o]newness of Spirit, and not in the oldness of the [p]letter.

[q]What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? God forbid. Nay, I knew not sin, but by the Law: for I had not known [r]lust, except the Law had said, (C)Thou shalt not lust.

But sin took an occasion by the commandment, and wrought in me all manner of concupiscence: for without the Law sin is [s]dead.

[t]For I once was alive, without the [u]law: but when the commandment [v]came, sin revived,

10 But I [w]died: and the same commandment which was ordained unto life, was found to be unto me unto death.

11 For sin took occasion by the commandment, and deceived me, and thereby slew me.

12 [x]Wherefore the Law is (D)holy, and that [y]commandment is holy, and just, and good.

John 6:1-15

5 Five thousand are fed with five loaves and two fishes. 15 Christ goeth apart from the people. 17 As his disciples were rowing, 19 he cometh to them walking on the water. 26 He reasoneth of the true 27 and everlasting, 35 bread of life. 42, 52 The Jews murmur, 60 and many of the disciples, 66 depart from him. 69 The Apostles confess him to be the Son of God.

After these things, Jesus went his way [a]over the sea of Galilee, which is Tiberias.

And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles, which he did on them that were diseased.

Then Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

Now the Passover a (A)feast of the Jews was near.

(B)[b]Then Jesus lift up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude came unto him, he said unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these might eat?

(And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.)

Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may take a little.

Then said unto him one of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother,

There is a little boy here, which hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are they among so many?

10 And Jesus said, Make the people sit down. (Now there was much grass in that place.) Then the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

11 And Jesus took the bread, and gave thanks, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down: and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.

12 And when they were satisfied, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the broken meat which remaineth, that nothing be lost.

13 Then they gathered it together, and filled twelve baskets with the broken meat of the five barley loaves, which remained unto them that had eaten.

14 Then the men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that Prophet that should come into the world.

15 [c]When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come, and take him to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
