Psalm 95

95 1 An earnest exhortation to praise God, 4 for the government of the world and the election of the Church. 8 An admonition not to follow the rebellion of the old fathers, that tempted God in the wilderness. 11 For the which they might not enter into the land of promise.

Come, let us rejoice unto the Lord: let us sing [a]aloud unto the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his face with praise: let us sing loud unto him with Psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all [b]gods,

In whose hand are the deep places of the earth, and the [c]heights of the mountains are his,

To whom the Sea belongeth, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us [d]worship and fall down, and kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his [e]hand: today, if ye will hear his voice,

[f]Harden not your heart, as in [g]Meribah, and as in the day of [h]Massah in the wilderness,

When your fathers (A)tempted me, proved me, though they had seen my work.

10 Forty years have I contended with this generation, and said, They are a people that [i]err in heart, for they have not known my ways.

11 Wherefore I sware in my wrath, saying, Surely they shall not enter into [j]my rest.

Psalm 69

69 1 The complaints, prayers, fervent zeal and great anguish of David is set forth as a figure of Christ and all his members. 21 The malicious cruelty of the enemies. 22 And their punishment also. 26 Where Judas and such traitors are accursed. 30 He gathereth courage in his affliction, and offereth praises unto God, 32 Which are more acceptable than all sacrifices: whereof all the afflicted may take comfort. 35 Finally, he doth provoke all creatures to praises, prophesying of the kingdom of Christ, and the preservation of the Church, where all the faithful, 27 And their seed shall dwell forever.

To him that excelleth upon [a]Shoshannim. A Psalm of David.

Save me, O God: for the [b]waters are entered even to my soul.

I stick fast in the deep mire, where no [c]stay is: I am come into deep waters, and the streams run over me.

I am weary of crying: my throat is dry: mine [d]eyes fail, while I wait for my God.

They that hate me without a cause, are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, and are mine enemies [e]falsely, are mighty, so that I restored that which I [f]took not.

O God, thou knowest my [g]foolishness, and my faults are not hid from thee.

Let not them that trust in thee, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for [h]me: let not those that seek thee, be confounded through me, O God of Israel.

For thy sake have I suffered reproof: shame hath covered my face.

I am become a stranger unto my brethren, even an alien unto my mother’s sons.

[i]For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me, and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee, are fallen upon me.

10 I [j]wept and my soul fasted, but that was to my reproof.

11 I put on a sack also: and I became a proverb unto them.

12 They that [k]sat in the gate, spake of me, and the drunkards sang of me.

13 But Lord, I make my prayer unto thee in an [l]acceptable time, even in the multitude of thy mercy: O God, hear me in the truth of thy salvation.

14 Deliver me out of the mire, that I sink not: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the [m]deep waters.

15 Let not the water flood drown me, neither let the deep swallow me up: and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

16 Hear me, O Lord, for thy loving-kindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

17 And [n]hide not thy face from thy servant, for I am in trouble; make haste and hear me.

18 Draw near unto my soul and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

19 Thou hast known my reproof and my shame, and my dishonor: all mine [o]adversaries are before thee.

20 Rebuke hath broken mine heart, and I am full of heaviness, and [p]I looked for some to have pity on me, but there was none: and for comforters, but I found none.

21 For they gave me gall in my meat, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

22 Let their [q]table be a snare before them, and their prosperity their ruin.

23 Let their eyes be blinded that they see not: and make their [r]loins always to tremble.

24 Pour out thine anger upon them, and let thy wrathful displeasure take them.

25 Let their [s]habitation be void, and let none dwell in their tents.

26 For they persecute him, whom thou hast smitten: and they add unto the sorrow of them, whom thou hast wounded.

27 Lay [t]iniquity upon their iniquity, and let them not come into thy righteousness.

28 Let them be put out of the [u]book of life, neither let them be written with the righteous.

29 When I am poor and in heaviness, thine help, O God, shall exalt me.

30 I will praise the Name of God with a song, and magnify him with thanksgiving.

31 This also shall please the Lord better than a [v]young bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

32 The humble shall see this, and they that seek God shall be glad, and your heart shall live.

33 For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his [w]prisoners.

34 Let heaven and earth praise him: the seas and all that moveth in them.

35 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah, that men may dwell there and have it in possession.

36 The [x]seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

Psalm 73

73 1 The Prophet teacheth by his example that neither the worldly prosperity of the ungodly, 14 nor yet the affliction of the good ought to discourage God’s children: but rather ought to move us to consider our Father’s providence, and to cause us to reverence God’s judgments, 19 forasmuch as the wicked vanish away, 24 and the godly enter into life everlasting, 28 in hope whereof he resigneth himself into God’s hands.

A Psalm committed to Asaph.

Yet [a]God is good to Israel: even to the pure in heart.

As for me, my feet were almost gone: my steps had well near slipped.

For I fretted at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are [b]no bands in their death, but they are lusty and strong.

They are not in trouble as other men, neither are they plagued with other men.

[c]Therefore pride is as a chain unto them, and cruelty covereth them as a garment.

Their eyes stand out for fatness: [d]they have more than heart can wish.

They are licentious, and speak wickedly of their oppression: they talk presumptuously.

They [e]set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

10 Therefore his [f]people turn hither: for waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11 And they [g]say, How doth God know it? or is there knowledge in the most High?

12 Lo these are the wicked, yet prosper they always, and increase in riches.

13 Certainly I have cleansed mine heart in vain, and washed mine hands in innocency.

14 For daily have I been punished, and chastened every morning.

15 If I say, [h]I will judge thus, behold the generation of thy children, I have trespassed.

16 Then thought I to know this, but it was too painful for me,

17 Until I went into the [i]Sanctuary of God: then understood I their end.

18 Surely thou hast set them in slippery places, and castest them down into desolation.

19 How suddenly are they destroyed, perished and [j]horribly consumed,

20 As a dream when one awaketh! O Lord, when [k]thou raisest us up, thou shalt make their image despised.

21 Certainly mine heart was vexed, and I was pricked in my reins.

22 So foolish was I and ignorant: I was a [l]beast before thee.

23 Yet I was always [m]with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

24 Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom have I in [n]heaven but thee? and I have desired none in the earth with thee.

26 My flesh faileth and mine heart also: but God is the strength of mine heart, and my [o]portion forever.

27 For lo, that they withdraw themselves from thee, shall perish: thou destroyest all them that [p]go a whoring from thee.

28 As for me, it is good for me [q]to draw near to God: therefore I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

Jeremiah 5:1-9

1 In Judah no righteous man is found, neither among the people nor the rulers. 15 Wherefore Judah is destroyed of the Chaldeans.

Run to and fro by the streets of Jerusalem, and behold now, and know, and inquire in the open places thereof, if ye can find a man, or if there be any that executeth judgment, and seeketh the truth, and I will spare [a]it.

For though they say, The [b]Lord liveth, yet do they swear falsely.

O Lord, are not thine eyes upon the [c]truth? thou hast [d]stricken them, but they have not sorrowed: thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a stone, and have refused to return.

Therefore I said, Surely they are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the Lord, nor the judgment of their God.

I will get me unto the [e]great men, and will speak unto them: for they have known the way of the Lord, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

Wherefore a [f]lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the wilderness shall destroy them: a leopard shall watch over their cities: everyone that goeth out thence, shall be torn in pieces, because their trespasses are many, and their rebellions are increased.

How should I spare thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and [g]sworn by them that are no gods: though I fed them to the full, yet they committed adultery, and assembled themselves by companies in the harlot’s houses.

They rose up in the morning like fed horses: for every man (A)neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

Shall I not visit for these things, saith the Lord? shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

Romans 2:25-3:18

25 [a]For circumcision verily is profitable, if thou do the Law: but if thou be a transgressor of the Law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

26 Therefore [b]if the uncircumcision keep the ordinances of the Law, shall not his [c]uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

27 And shall not [d]uncircumcision which is by nature (if it keep the Law) condemn thee which by the [e]letter and circumcision art a transgressor of the Law?

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one [f]outward: neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew which is one within, and the circumcision is of the heart, in the [g]spirit, not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.

1 He giveth the Jews some  2 preferment, for the covenant’s sake, 4 but yet such, as wholly dependeth on God’s mercy. 9 That both Jews and Gentiles are sinners, 11 he proveth by Scriptures: 19 and showing the use of the Law, 28 he concludeth that we are justified by faith.

What [h]is then the preferment of the Jew? or what is the profit of circumcision?

Much every manner of way: for [i]chiefly, because unto them were of credit committed the [j]oracles of God.

For what, though some did not [k]believe? shall their unbelief make the [l]faith of God without effect?

God forbid: yea, let God be true, and every man a liar, as it is written, That thou mightest be [m]justified in thy words, and overcome, [n]when thou art judged.

[o]Now if our [p]unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? is God unrighteous which punisheth? (I speak as [q]a man.)

God forbid: (else how shall God judge the world?)

[r]For if the [s]verity of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory, why am I yet condemned as a sinner?

And (as we are blamed, and as some affirm, that we say) why do we not evil, that good may come thereof? whose damnation is just.

[t]What then? are we more excellent? No, in no wise: for we have already proved, that all, both Jews and Gentiles are [u]under sin,

10 As it is written, (A)There is none righteous no not one.

11 There is none that understandeth: there is none that seeketh God.

12 They have all gone out of the way: they have been made altogether unprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no not one.

13 (B)Their throat is an open sepulcher: they have used their tongues to deceit: (C)the poison of asps is under their lips.

14 (D)Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.

15 (E)Their feet are swift to shed blood.

16 Destruction and calamity are in their ways:

17 And the [v]way of peace they have not known.

18 (F)The fear of God is not before their eyes.

John 5:30-47

30 [a]I can [b]do nothing of mine own self: [c]as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just, because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father who hath sent me.

31 If I (A)should bear witness of myself, my witness were not [d]true.

32 (B)There is another that beareth witness of me, and I know that the witness, which he beareth of me, is true.

33 (C)[e]Ye sent unto John, and he bore witness unto the truth.

34 But I receive not the record of man: nevertheless these things I say, that ye might be saved.

35 He was a burning and a shining candle: and ye would for [f]a season have rejoiced in his light.

36 But I have greater witness than the witness of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father sent me.

37 And the (D)Father himself, which hath sent me, beareth witness of me. Ye have not heard his voice at any time, (E)neither have ye seen his shape.

38 And his word have you not abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believed not.

39 (F)Search the Scriptures: for in them ye think to have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.

40 But ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

41 I receive not the praise of men.

42 But I know you, that ye have not the [g]love of God in you.

43 I am come in my Father’s Name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him will ye receive.

44 How can ye believe, which receive (G)honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh of God alone?

45 [h]Do not think that I will accuse you to my Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he (H)wrote of me.

47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words.
