Psalm 148-150

Psalm 148[a]

148 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the sky.
Praise him in the heavens.
Praise him, all his angels.[b]
Praise him, all his heavenly assembly.[c]
Praise him, O sun and moon.
Praise him, all you shiny stars.[d]
Praise him, O highest heaven,
and you waters above the sky.[e]
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he gave the command and they came into existence.
He established them so they would endure;[f]
he issued a decree that will not be revoked.[g]
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea creatures and all you ocean depths,
O fire and hail, snow and clouds,[h]
O stormy wind that carries out his orders,[i]
you mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars,
10 you animals and all you cattle,
you creeping things and birds,
11 you kings of the earth and all you nations,
you princes and all you leaders[j] on the earth,
12 you young men and young women,
you elderly, along with you children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty extends over the earth and sky.
14 He has made his people victorious,[k]
and given all his loyal followers reason to praise—
the Israelites, the people who are close to him.[l]
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 149[m]

149 Praise the Lord.
Sing to the Lord a new song.
Praise him in the assembly of the godly.[n]
Let Israel rejoice in their Creator.
Let the people[o] of Zion delight in their King.[p]
Let them praise his name with dancing.
Let them sing praises to him to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp.
For the Lord takes delight in his people;
he exalts the oppressed by delivering them.[q]
Let the godly rejoice because of their vindication.[r]
Let them shout for joy upon their beds.[s]
May the praises of God be in their mouths
and a two-edged sword in their hands,
in order to take[t] revenge on the nations,
and punish foreigners.
The godly bind[u] their enemies’ kings in chains,
and their nobles in iron shackles,
and execute the judgment to which their enemies[v] have been sentenced.[w]
All his loyal followers will be vindicated.[x]
Praise the Lord.

Psalm 150[y]

150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in the sky, which testifies to his strength![z]
Praise him for his mighty acts;
praise him for his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with the blast of the horn;
praise him with the lyre and the harp!
Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing;
praise him with stringed instruments and the flute!
Praise him with loud cymbals;
praise him with clanging cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 114-115

Psalm 114[a]

114 When Israel left Egypt,
when the family of Jacob left a foreign nation behind,[b]
Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel his kingdom.
The sea looked and fled;[c]
the Jordan River[d] turned back.[e]
The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.[f]
Why do you flee, O sea?
Why do you turn back, O Jordan River?
Why do you skip like rams, O mountains,
like lambs, O hills?
Tremble, O earth, before the Lord—
before the God of Jacob,
who turned a rock into a pool of water,
a hard rock into springs of water.[g]

Psalm 115[h]

115 Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name bring honor,[i]
for the sake of your loyal love and faithfulness.[j]
Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Our God is in heaven.
He does whatever he pleases.[k]
Their[l] idols are made of silver and gold—
they are man-made.[m]
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see,
ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell,
hands, but cannot touch,
feet, but cannot walk.
They cannot even clear their throats.[n]
Those who make them will end up[o] like them,
as will everyone who trusts in them.
O Israel, trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[p] and protector.[q]
10 O family[r] of Aaron, trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[s] and protector.[t]
11 You loyal followers of the Lord,[u] trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[v] and protector.[w]
12 The Lord takes notice of us;[x] he will bless[y]
he will bless the family[z] of Israel,
he will bless the family of Aaron.
13 He will bless his loyal followers,[aa]
both young and old.[ab]
14 May he increase your numbers,
yours and your children’s.[ac]
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Creator[ad] of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens belong to the Lord,[ae]
but the earth he has given to mankind.[af]
17 The dead do not praise the Lord,
nor do any of those who descend into the silence of death.[ag]
18 But we will praise the Lord
now and forevermore.
Praise the Lord!

Deuteronomy 6:1-9

Exhortation to Keep the Covenant Principles

Now these are the commandments,[a] statutes, and ordinances that the Lord your God instructed me to teach you so that you may carry them out in the land where you are headed[b] and that you may so revere the Lord your God that you will keep all his statutes and commandments[c] that I am giving[d] you—you, your children, and your grandchildren—all your lives, to prolong your days. Pay attention, Israel, and be careful to do this so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in number[e]—as the Lord, the God of your ancestors,[f] said to you, you will have a land flowing with milk and honey.

The Essence of the Covenant Principles

Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord is one![g] You must love[h] the Lord your God with your whole mind,[i] your whole being,[j] and all your strength.[k]

Exhortation to Teach the Covenant Principles

These words I am commanding you today must be kept in mind, and you must teach[l] them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road,[m] as you lie down, and as you get up. You should tie them as a reminder on your forearm[n] and fasten them as symbols[o] on your forehead. Inscribe them on the doorframes of your houses and gates.[p]

Hebrews 12:18-29

18 For you have not come to something that can be touched,[a] to a burning fire and darkness and gloom and a whirlwind 19 and the blast of a trumpet and a voice uttering words[b] such that those who heard begged to hear no more.[c] 20 For they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.”[d] 21 In fact, the scene[e] was so terrifying that Moses said, “I shudder with fear.”[f] 22 But you have come to Mount Zion, the city[g] of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the assembly 23 and congregation of the firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous, who have been made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator[h] of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of something better than Abel’s does.[i]

25 Take care not to refuse the one who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less shall we, if we reject the one who warns from heaven? 26 Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.”[j] 27 Now this phrase “once more” indicates the removal of what is shaken, that is, of created things, so that what is unshaken may remain. 28 So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe. 29 For our God is indeed a devouring fire.[k]

John 12:24-32

24 I tell you the solemn truth,[a] unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone.[b] But if it dies, it produces[c] much grain.[d] 25 The one who loves his life[e] destroys[f] it, and the one who hates his life in this world guards[g] it for eternal life. 26 If anyone wants to serve me, he must follow[h] me, and where I am, my servant will be too.[i] If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

27 “Now my soul is greatly distressed. And what should I say? ‘Father, deliver me[j] from this hour’?[k] No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour.[l] 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven,[m] “I have glorified it,[n] and I will glorify it[o] again.” 29 The crowd that stood there and heard the voice[p] said that it had thundered. Others said that an angel had spoken to him.[q] 30 Jesus said,[r] “This voice has not come for my benefit[s] but for yours. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world[t] will be driven out.[u] 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people[v] to myself.”
