“Where is their God?”(K)
3 Our God is in heaven
and does whatever He pleases.(L)
4 Their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands.(M)
5 They have mouths but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
6 They have ears but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell.(N)
7 They have hands but cannot feel,
feet, but cannot walk.(O)
They cannot make a sound with their throats.(P)

both yours and your children’s.(Y)
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.(Z)
16 The heavens are the Lord’s,[c]
but the earth He has given to the human race.(AA)
17 It is not the dead who praise the Lord,
nor any of those descending into the silence of death.(AB)
18 But we will praise the Lord,
both now and forever.(AC)
Hallelujah!
Warnings from Israel’s Past
10 Now I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers(A) were all under the cloud,(B) all passed through the sea,(C) 2 and all were baptized(D) into Moses(E) in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food,(F) 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from a spiritual rock(G) that followed them, and that rock was Christ.(H) 5 But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness.(I)
6 Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire(J) evil things as they did.[a](K) 7 Don’t become idolaters(L) as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play.[b](M)[c] 8 Let us not commit sexual immorality(N) as some of them did,[d] and in a single day 23,000 people fell dead.(O) 9 Let us not test Christ as some of them did[e] and were destroyed by snakes.(P) 10 Nor should we complain(Q) as some of them did,[f](R) and were killed by the destroyer.[g](S) 11 Now these things happened to them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us,(T) on whom the ends of the ages(U) have come.(V) 12 So, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall.(W) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful,(X) and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape(Y) so that you are able to bear it.
Peter’s Confession of the Messiah
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi,[a](A) He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”[b]
14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(B)
15 “But you,” He asked them, “who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!”(C)
17 And Jesus responded, “Simon son of Jonah,[c](D) you are blessed because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father in heaven.(E) 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter,[d] and on this rock[e] I will build My church,(F) and the forces[f] of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven,(G) and whatever you bind on earth is already bound[g] in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is already loosed[h] in heaven.”
20 And He gave the disciples orders to tell no one that He was[i] the Messiah.(H)
