Book of Common Prayer
Psalm 63
Praise God Who Satisfies
A Davidic psalm. When he was in the Wilderness of Judah.(A)
1 God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.
I thirst for You;
my body faints for You
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.(B)
2 So I gaze on You in the sanctuary
to see Your strength and Your glory.(C)
3 My lips will glorify You
because Your faithful love is better than life.(D)
4 So I will praise You as long as I live;
at Your name, I will lift up my hands.(E)
5 You satisfy me as with rich food;[a](F)
my mouth will praise You with joyful lips.(G)
Psalm 98
Praise the King
A psalm.
1 Sing a new song to the Lord,(A)
for He has performed wonders;
His right hand and holy arm
have won Him victory.(B)
2 The Lord has made His victory known;
He has revealed His righteousness
in the sight of the nations.(C)
3 He has remembered His love
and faithfulness to the house of Israel;
all the ends of the earth
have seen our God’s victory.(D)
Psalm 103
The Forgiving God
Davidic.
1 My soul, praise Yahweh,
and all that is within me, praise His holy name.(A)
2 My soul, praise the Lord,
and do not forget all His benefits.(B)
3 He forgives all your sin;(C)
He heals all your diseases.(D)
4 He redeems your life from the Pit;(E)
He crowns you with faithful love and compassion.(F)
5 He satisfies you[a] with goodness;(G)
your youth is renewed like the eagle.(H)
6 The Lord executes acts of righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.(I)
7 He revealed His ways to Moses,(J)
His deeds to the people of Israel.(K)
8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger and rich in faithful love.(L)
9 He will not always accuse us
or be angry forever.(M)
10 He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve
or repaid us according to our offenses.(N)
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His faithful love
toward those who fear Him.(O)
12 As far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed
our transgressions from us.(P)
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.(Q)
14 For He knows what we are made of,
remembering that we are dust.(R)
15 As for man, his days are like grass—
he blooms like a flower of the field;(S)
16 when the wind passes over it, it vanishes,
and its place is no longer known.[b](T)
17 But from eternity to eternity
the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him,
and His righteousness toward the grandchildren(U)
18 of those who keep His covenant,
who remember to observe His precepts.(V)
19 The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
and His kingdom rules over all.(W)
3 So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petitions, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.(A)
4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:
Ah, Lord—the great and awe-inspiring God(B) who keeps His gracious covenant(C) with those who love Him(D) and keep His commands(E)— 5 we have sinned,(F) done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled,(G) and turned away from Your commands and ordinances.(H) 6 We have not listened to Your servants the prophets,(I) who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, fathers, and all the people of the land.
7 Lord, righteousness belongs to You,(J) but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel—those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where You have dispersed them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward You. 8 Lord, public shame(K) belongs to us, our kings, our leaders, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.(L) 9 Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord our God, though we have rebelled against Him 10 and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following His instructions that He set before us through His servants(M) the prophets.
10 For in bringing many sons to glory, it was entirely appropriate that God—all things exist for Him and through Him—should make the source[a] of their salvation perfect through sufferings.(A) 11 For the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father.[b] That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers,(B) 12 saying:
13 Again, I will trust in Him.[d] And again, Here I am with the children God gave Me.(D)[e]
14 Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the Devil(E)— 15 and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.(F) 16 For it is clear that He does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham’s offspring. 17 Therefore, He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service[f] to God, to make propitiation(G) for the sins of the people.(H) 18 For since He Himself was tested and has suffered, He is able to help those who are tested.
A Summary of Jesus’ Mission
44 Then Jesus cried out, “The one who believes in Me(A) believes not in Me, but in Him who sent Me. 45 And the one who sees Me sees Him(B) who sent Me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My words and doesn’t keep(C) them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world(D) but to save the world.(E) 48 The one who rejects Me(F) and doesn’t accept My sayings has this as his judge:[a] The word I have spoken will judge him on the last day.(G) 49 For I have not spoken on My own, but the Father(H) Himself who sent Me has given Me a command as to what I should say and what I should speak. 50 I know that His command is eternal life.(I) So the things that I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”(J)
