Book of Common Prayer
148 Praise the LORD from the heavens! Praise Him in the high places!
2 Praise Him, all His angels! Praise Him, all His army!
3 Praise Him, Sun and Moon! Praise Him, all bright stars!
4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, and waters above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the Name of the LORD; for He commanded, and they were created.
6 And He has established them forever and ever. He has made an ordinance which shall not pass.
7 Praise the LORD from the Earth, you dragons and all depths:
8 fire and hail, snow and vapors, stormy wind — which execute His Word —
9 mountains and all hills, fruitful trees, and all cedars,10 beasts and all cattle, creeping things and feathered birds,
11 kings of the Earth and all people, princes and all judges of the world,
12 young men and maidens, also old men and children.
13 Let them praise the Name of the LORD; for only His Name is to be exalted. His praise is above the Earth and the heavens.
14 For He has exalted the horn of His people — a praise for all His saints, for the children of Israel — a people that is near to Him. Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD.
149 Sing to the LORD a new song! Let His praise be heard in the congregation of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in Him Who made him; and let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
3 Let them praise His Name with the flute. Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD has pleasure in His people. He will make the meek glorious by deliverance.
5 Let the saints be joyful with glory! Let them sing loud upon their beds.
6 Let the high acts of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hands —
7 to execute vengeance upon the heathen and corrections among the people,
8 to bind their kings in chains and their nobles with fetters of iron —
9 so that they may execute upon them the judgment that is written. This honor shall be to all His saints. Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD.
150 Praise God in His Sanctuary! Praise Him in the firmament of His power.
2 Praise Him in His mighty acts! Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
3 Praise Him in the sound of the trumpet! Praise Him upon the viol and the harp.
4 Praise Him with timbrel and flute! Praise Him with virginals and organs.
5 Praise Him with sounding cymbals! Praise Him with high sounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
114 When Israel went out of Egypt, and the House of Jacob from the barbarous people,
2 Judah was His sanctification, and Israel His dominion.
3 The sea saw it and fled. Jordan was turned back.
4 The mountains leaped like rams, and the hills as lambs!
5 What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, why were you turned back?
6 You mountains, why did you leap like rams, and you hills as lambs?
7 The Earth trembled at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 Who turns the rock into standing water, and the flint into a fountain of water.
115 Not to us, O LORD, not to us; but to Your Name give the glory, for Your loving mercy and for Your truth’s sake.
2 Why shall the heathen say, “Where is their God, now?”
3 But our God is in Heaven. He does whatever He will.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
5 They have a mouth and do not speak. They have eyes and do not see.
6 They have ears and do not hear. They have noses and do not smell.
7 They have hands and do not touch. They have feet and do not walk; nor do they make a sound with their throat.
8 Those who make them are like them. So are all who trust in them.
9 O Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
10 O House of Aaron, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD. He is their helper and their shield.
12 The LORD has been mindful of us. He will bless. He will bless the House of Israel. He will bless the House of Aaron.
13 He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.
14 The LORD will increase toward you, toward you and toward your children.
15 You are blessed by the LORD, Who made Heaven and Earth.
16 The heavens, even the heavens are the LORD’s; but He has given the Earth to the sons of men.
17 The dead do not praise the LORD, nor any who go down into the silence.
18 But we will praise the LORD from henceforth and forever. Praise the LORD!
22 Then Solomon stood before the Altar of the LORD, in the sight of all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands toward Heaven,
23 and said, “O LORD God of Israel! There is no God like You in Heaven above or on the Earth beneath, You Who keep Covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their heart;
24 “You Who have kept with Your servant David, my father, that You have promised him. For You spoke with Your Mouth and have fulfilled it with Your Hand, as it is this day.
25 “Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with Your servant David, my father, that You have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man in My sight to sit upon the throne of Israel, so that your children attend to their way, so that they walk before Me, as you have walked in My sight.’
26 “And now, O God of Israel, I pray, let Your Word be verified which You spoke to your servant David, my father.
27 “Is it indeed true that God will dwell on the Earth? Behold, the heavens, and the heavens of heavens, are not able to contain You! How much more so is this House that I have built?
28 “But have respect to the prayer of Your servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hear the cry and prayer which Your servant prays before You this day!
29 “So that Your Eyes may be open toward this House, night and day, toward the place of which You have said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may listen to the prayer which Your servant prays in this place.
30 “Hear, therefore, the supplication of Your servant, and of Your people Israel, who pray in this place! And hear in the place of Your habitation, in Heaven! And when You hear, have mercy!
31 “When a man shall trespass against his neighbor, and he lays upon him an oath, to cause him to swear. And the swearer shall come before Your Altar, into this House,
32 “then hear in Heaven and do, and judge Your servants, so that You condemn the wicked, to bring his way upon his head! And justify the righteous, to give to him according to his righteousness.
33 “When Your people Israel shall be overthrown before the enemy, because they have sinned against You, and turn back to you and confess Your Name and pray and make supplication to You in this House,
34 “then hear in Heaven and be merciful to the sin of Your people Israel! And bring them back to the land which You gave to their fathers.
35 “When the sky shall be shut up, and there shall be no rain because they have sinned against You, and shall pray in this place, and confess Your Name, and turn from their sin, when You afflict them,
36 “then hear in Heaven! And pardon the sin of Your servants and of Your people Israel (after You have taught them the good way in which they may walk) and give rain upon the land that You have given Your people to inherit!
37 “When there shall be famine in the land, when there shall be pestilence, when there shall be blight, mildew, grasshopper or caterpillar; when their enemies shall besiege them in the cities of their land, any plague, any sickness,
38 “whatever prayer, supplication shall be made by any man of all Your people Israel, when everyone shall know the plague in his own heart and stretch forth his hands in this House,
39 “hear then in Heaven, in Your dwelling place, and be merciful, and do, and give every man according to all his ways, as You know his heart (for only You know the hearts of all the children of men),
40 “so that they may fear You as long as they live in the land which You gave to our fathers!
7 But, reject worldly and old wives’ fables. And train yourself towards godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profits a little. But godliness is profitable towards all things, having the promise of this life and of that which is to come.
9 This is a true saying, and by all means worthy to be received.
10 For this we labor and are rebuked: because we trust in the living God, Who is the Savior of all mankind, especially those who believe.
11 Command and teach these things.
12 Let no one despise your youth. But be an example to those who believe - in word, in conversation, in love, in spirit, in faith and in pureness.
13 Until I come, pay attention to reading, to encouragement, and to doctrine.
14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.
15 Attend to these things. Give yourself to them. So that your progress may be seen among all.
16 Pay attention to yourself, and to learning. Persist in it. For in so doing, you shall both save yourself and those who hear you.
47 “The one who is of God hears God’s Words. You, therefore, do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
48 Then the Jews answered, and said to Him, “Are we not correct in saying that You are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”
49 Jesus answered, “I have no demon. But I honor My Father. And you have dishonored Me.
50 “And I do not seek My own praise. But there is One Who seeks it, and judges.
51 “Truly, truly I say to you, “If anyone keeps My Word, he shall never see death.”
52 Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets, and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My Word, he shall never taste of death.
53 “Are You greater than our father, Abraham, who is dead?! And the Prophets are dead! Who do You think You are!?”
54 Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is worth nothing. It is My Father Who honors Me; the One you say is your God.
55 “Yet you have not known Him. But I know Him. And if I should say I do not know Him, I would be a liar, like you. But I know Him and keep His word.
56 “Your father, Abraham, rejoiced to see My day. And he saw it and was glad.”
57 Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you: Before Abraham was, I am.”
59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus hid Himself and went out of the Temple. And He passed through the midst of them, and so went His way.
