Psalm 107:33-108:13

33 He turns the floods to a wilderness, the springs of waters into dryness,

34 a fruitful land into barrenness, because of the wickedness of those who dwell therein.

35 He turns the wilderness into pools of water, and the dry land into water springs.

36 And there He places the hungry; and they build a city in which to dwell,

37 and sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which bring forth fruitful increase.

38 For He blesses them, and they multiply exceedingly; and He does not diminish their cattle.

39 Again, they are diminished and brought low by oppression, evil and sorrow.

40 He pours contempt upon princes and causes them to err in desert places, out of the way.

41 Yet he raises up the poor out of misery and makes families, like a flock of sheep.

42 The righteous shall see it and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

43 Who is wise? Let him observe these things and understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

108 O God, my heart is prepared. I will sing and give abundant praise!

Awake, viol and harp! I will awake early.

I will praise You, O LORD, among the people! And I will sing to You among the nations.

For Your mercy is great above the heavens, and Your truth to the clouds.

Exalt Yourself, O God, above the heavens, and Your Glory upon all the Earth,

so that Your beloved may be delivered. Help with Your right hand and hear me.

God has spoken in His holiness, “I will rejoice. I shall divide Shechem and measure the valley of Succoth.

“Gilead shall be Mine. Manasseh shall be Mine. Ephraim, also, shall be the strength of My head. Judah is My lawgiver.

“Moab shall be My washpot. I will cast out My shoe over Edom. I will triumph over Palestine.”

10 Who will lead me into the strong city? Who will bring me to Edom?

11 Will not You, O God, Who had forsaken us? And will You not go forth, O God, with our armies?

12 Give us help against trouble, for vain is the help of man.

13 Through God we shall do valiantly; for He shall tread down our enemies. To him who excels: A Psalm of David

Psalm 33

33 Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous! It becomes upright men to be thankful.

Praise the LORD with harp! Sing to Him with viol and instrument of ten strings!

Sing to Him a new song! Sing cheerfully with a loud voice!

For the Word of the LORD is righteous; and all His works are faithful.

He loves righteousness and judgment. The Earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

He gathers the waters of the sea together, as upon a heap, and lays up the depths in His treasures.

Let all the Earth fear the LORD. Let all those who dwell in the world, fear Him.

For He spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood.

10 The LORD breaks the counsel of the heathen and brings the devices of the people to nothing.

11 The counsel of the LORD shall stand forever, and the thoughts of His heart throughout all ages.

12 Blessed is that nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen for His inheritance.

13 The LORD looks down from Heaven, beholding all the children of men.

14 From the habitation of His dwelling he beholds all those who dwell on the Earth.

15 He fashions their hearts, every one, understanding all their works.

16 The king is not saved by the multitude of an army; nor is the mighty man delivered by great strength.

17 A horse is a vain help and shall not deliver by his great strength.

18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those who fear Him, upon those who trust in His mercy

19 to deliver their souls from death and to preserve them in famine.

20 Our soul waits for the LORD. He is our Help and our Shield.

21 Surely, our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we trusted in His Holy Name.

22 Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us. As we trusted in You. A Psalm of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech; who drove him away and he departed.

2 Samuel 16

16 When David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, met him with a couple of saddled donkeys, and two hundred cakes of bread upon them, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred of dried figs, and a bottle of wine.

And the king said to Ziba, “What do you mean by these?” And Ziba said, “They are donkeys for the king’s household to ride on, and bread and dried figs for the young men to eat, and wine so that the faint may drink in the wilderness.

And the king said, “But where is your master’s son?” Then, Ziba answered the king, “Behold, he remains in Jerusalem. For he said, ‘This day shall the House of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.’”

Then the king said to Ziba, “Behold, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.” And Ziba said, “I beg you, let me find grace in your sight, my lord, O king!”

And when King David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, named Shimei, the son of Gera. And he came out and cursed.

And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of King David, and all the people, and all the men of war on his right and on his left.

And thus said Shimei when he cursed, “Come forth! Come forth, you murderer and wicked man!

“The LORD has brought upon you all the blood of the House of Saul, in whose stead you have reigned! And the LORD has delivered your kingdom into the hand of Absalom, your son! And behold, you have been taken in your wickedness, because you are a murderer!”

Then Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said to the king, “Why does this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please, let me go and take away his head.”

10 But the king said, ‘What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? For if he curses because the LORD has bid him curse David, who then dare says, ‘Why have you done so?’”

11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, “Behold, my son, who came out of my own bowels, seeks my life! How much more so, then, may this son of Benjamin? Allow him to curse! For the LORD has bid him!

12 “It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and do me good for his cursing this day!”

13 And as David and his men went along the way, Shimei went along the side of the mountain, opposite him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones against him, and cast dust.

14 Then the king and all the people who were with him became weary and refreshed themselves there.

15 And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

16 And when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, had come to Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, “God save the king! God save the king!”

17 Then Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?

18 Hushai then answered Absalom, “No, but whom the LORD and this people and all the men of Israel choose. His will I be. And with them will I dwell.

19 “And moreover, to whom shall I do service if not to his son? As I served before your father, so will I before you.”

20 Then Absalom spoke to Ahithophel, “Give counsel what we shall do.”

21 And Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to your father’s concubines whom he has left to keep the house. And when all Israel shall hear that you are abhorred by your father, the hands of all who are with you shall be strong.”

22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house. And Absalom went in to his father’s concubines, in the sight of all Israel.

23 And the counsel of Ahithophel which he counseled in those days was as if one had asked counsel of the oracle of God. So was all the counsel of Ahithophel, both with David and with Absalom.

Acts 22:17-29

17 “And it so happened that when I had again come to Jerusalem, and prayed in the Temple, I was in a trance.

18 “And I saw Him, saying to me, ‘Hurry. And get out of Jerusalem quickly. For they will not receive your witness concerning Me.’

19 “Then I said, ‘Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat those who believed in You in every Synagogue.

20 ‘And when the blood of Your martyr, Stephen, was shed, I also stood by and consented to his death, and guarded the clothes of those who killed him.’

21 “Then He said to me, “Go. For I will send you far from here, to the Gentiles.’”

22 And they heard him until this word. Then they lifted up their voices, and said, “Away with such a fellow from the Earth! For he is not fit to live!”

23 And as they cried and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

24 the chief captain commanded him to be led into the castle, and ordered that he should be scourged, and examined, that he might know why they cried so against him.

25 And as they bound him with straps, Paul said to the Centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge one who is a Roman, and not condemned?”

26 Now when the Centurion heard that, he told the chief captain, saying, “Be careful what you do. For this man is a Roman.”

27 Then the chief captain came and said to him, “Tell me. Are you a Roman?” And he said, “Yes.”

28 And the chief captain answered, “I obtained this freedom with a great sum.” Then Paul said, “But I was born so.”

29 Then immediately, those who should have examined him departed. And the chief captain was also afraid after he realized that he was a Roman, and that he had bound him.

Mark 11:1-11

11 And when they came near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount of Olives, He sent forth two of His disciples,

and said to them, “Go into that town over there. And as soon as you enter it, you shall find a colt, tied, upon which never a man sat. Untie him and bring him.

“And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ Say that the Lord has need of him. And He will return him immediately.”

And they went their way and found a colt, tied by the door outside, at an intersection. And they untied him.

Then some of those who stood there said to them, “Why are you untying that colt?”

And they said to them as Jesus had commanded them. So, they let them go.

And they brought the colt to Jesus and laid their garments on him. And He sat upon him.

And many spread their garments along the way. Others cut down branches off the trees and spread them in the way.

And those who went before and who followed, cried, saying, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!

10 “Blessed is the Kingdom that comes in the Name of the Lord of our father David! Hosanna! O You Who are in the highest heavens!”

11 So Jesus entered into Jerusalem and went into the Temple. And when He had looked around at everything (and it was evening) He went forth to Bethany with the twelve.
