Psalm 83

O God, Do Not Be Quiet

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

83 O God, (A)do not remain at rest;
(B)Do not be silent and, O God, do not be quiet.
For behold, Your enemies (C)roar,
And (D)those who hate You have (E)lifted up their heads.
They (F)make shrewd plans against Your people,
And [a]conspire together against (G)Your [b]treasured ones.
They have said, “Come, and (H)let us wipe them out [c]as a nation,
That the (I)name of Israel be remembered no more.”
For they have [d](J)conspired together with one heart;
Against You they cut a covenant:
The tents of (K)Edom and the (L)Ishmaelites,
(M)Moab and the (N)Hagrites;
(O)Gebal and (P)Ammon and (Q)Amalek,
(R)Philistia with the inhabitants of (S)Tyre;
(T)Assyria also has joined with them;
They have become [e]the power of the (U)children of Lot. [f]Selah.

Do to them (V)as to Midian,
As (W)to Sisera, and Jabin at the river of Kishon,
10 Who were destroyed at En-dor,
Who (X)were as dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like (Y)Oreb and Zeeb
And all their princes like (Z)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, “(AA)Let us possess for ourselves
The (AB)pastures of God.”

13 O my God, make them like the [g](AC)whirling dust,
Like (AD)chaff before the wind.
14 Like (AE)fire that burns the forest
And like a flame that (AF)burns up the mountains,
15 So pursue them (AG)with Your tempest
And dismay them with Your storm.
16 (AH)Fill their faces with disgrace,
That they may seek Your name, O Yahweh.
17 Let them be (AI)ashamed and dismayed forever,
And let them be humiliated and perish,
18 That they may (AJ)know that (AK)You alone—Your name is Yahweh—
Are the (AL)Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 85-86

Turn Us Back, O God

For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.

85 O Yahweh, You showed (A)favor to Your land;
You [a](B)returned the fortunes of Jacob.
You (C)forgave the iniquity of Your people;
You (D)covered all their sin. [b]Selah.
You (E)withdrew all Your fury;
You (F)turned back from Your burning anger.

(G)Turn us back, O God of our salvation,
And (H)cause Your vexation toward us to cease.
Will (I)You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger from generation to generation?
Will You not Yourself (J)return to [c]revive us,
That Your people may (K)be glad in You?
Show us, O Yahweh, Your lovingkindness,
And (L)give us Your salvation.

Let me hear what the God, Yahweh, will speak;
For He will (M)speak peace to His people, [d]to His holy ones;
But let them not (N)turn back to [e]folly.
Surely (O)His salvation is near to those who [f]fear Him,
That (P)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (Q)Lovingkindness and [g]truth have met together;
(R)Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 [h]Truth (S)springs up from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, (T)Yahweh will give what is good,
And our (U)land will yield its produce.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before Him
And will establish the way of His steps.

To You, O Lord, I Lift Up My Soul

A Prayer of David.

86 (W)Incline Your ear, O Yahweh, and answer me;
For I am (X)afflicted and needy.
(Y)Keep my [i]soul, for I am a (Z)holy one;
O You my God, save Your slave who (AA)trusts in You.
Be (AB)gracious to me, O Lord,
For (AC)to You I call all day long.
Make glad the soul of Your slave,
For to You, O Lord, (AD)I lift up my soul.
For You, Lord, are (AE)good, and (AF)by nature forgiving,
And (AG)abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.
(AH)Give ear, O Yahweh, to my prayer;
And give heed to the voice of my supplications!
In (AI)the day of my distress I shall call upon You,
For (AJ)You will answer me.
There is (AK)no one like You among the gods, O Lord,
Nor are there any works (AL)like Yours.
(AM)All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord,
And they shall glorify Your name.
10 For You are (AN)great and (AO)do [j]wondrous deeds;
You alone (AP)are God.

11 (AQ)Teach me Your way, O Yahweh;
I will walk in Your truth;
(AR)Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will (AS)give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And will glorify Your name forever.
13 For Your lovingkindness toward me is great,
And You have (AT)delivered my soul from Sheol below.

14 O God, arrogant men have (AU)risen up against me,
And [k]a band of ruthless men have sought my [l]life,
And they have not set You before them.
15 But You, O Lord, are a God (AV)compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and [m]truth.
16 (AW)Turn to me, and be gracious to me;
Oh (AX)grant Your strength to Your slave,
And save the (AY)son of Your maidservant.
17 [n](AZ)Show me a sign for good,
That those who hate me may (BA)see it and be ashamed,
Because You, O Yahweh, (BB)have helped me and comforted me.

2 Samuel 11

David and Bathsheba

11 (A)Now it happened [a](B)in the spring, at the time when [b]kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and (C)besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

Now when evening came David arose from his bed and walked around on (D)the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance. So David sent and [c]inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is this not (E)Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of (F)Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and (G)he lay with her; (H)and when she had purified herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house. And the woman became pregnant; and she sent and told David, and said, “(I)I am pregnant.”

Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent Uriah to David. When Uriah came to him, (J)David asked concerning the [d]state of Joab and the [e]state of the people and the [f]state of the war. Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house, and (K)wash your feet.” And Uriah went out of the king’s house, and a present from the king went out after him. But Uriah lay down (L)at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house. 10 Then they told David, saying, “Uriah did not go down to his house.” And David said to Uriah, “Have you not come from a journey? Why did you not go down to your house?” 11 And Uriah said to David, “(M)The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in [g]booths, and my lord Joab and (N)the servants of my lord are camping in the open field. Shall I then go to my house to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? By your life and the life of your soul, I will not do this thing.” 12 Then David said to Uriah, “(O)Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will send you out.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the [h]next. 13 Now David called him, and he ate and drank before him, and he (P)made him drunk; and in the evening he went out to lie on his bed (Q)with his lord’s servants, but he did not go down to his house.

14 Now it happened in the morning that David (R)wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15 (S)And he had written in the letter, saying, “[i]Place Uriah in the front line of the [j]fiercest battle and withdraw from him, (T)so that he may be struck down and die.” 16 So it was as Joab kept watch on the city, that he put Uriah at the place where he knew there were valiant men. 17 And the men of the city went out and fought against Joab, and some of the people among David’s servants fell; and (U)Uriah the Hittite also died. 18 Then Joab sent and told David all the events of the war. 19 And he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the events of the war to the king, 20 and if it happens that the king’s wrath rises and he says to you, ‘Why did you approach the city to fight? Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall? 21 Who (V)struck down Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall so he died at Thebez? Why did you approach the wall?’—then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.’”

22 So the messenger went and came and told David all that Joab had sent him to tell. 23 And the messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us and came out against us in the field, but we [k]pressed them as far as the entrance of the gate. 24 And the archers shot at your servants from the wall; so some of the king’s servants died, and your servant Uriah the Hittite also died.” 25 Then David said to the messenger, “Thus you shall say to Joab, ‘Do not let this thing be evil in your sight, for the sword devours one as well as another; make your battle against the city stronger and [l]tear it down’; and so strengthen him.”

26 Then the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband had died, so (W)she lamented over her husband. 27 Then the time of mourning passed by, and David sent and gathered her to his house and (X)she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But (Y)the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of Yahweh.

Acts 19:11-20

Miracles in Ephesus

11 And God was doing (A)extraordinary [a]miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 (B)so that cloths or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and (C)the evil spirits went out. 13 But also some of the Jewish (D)exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to invoke over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “I implore you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Now seven sons of one named Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” 16 And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them, subdued all of them, and utterly prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17 And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived in (E)Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified. 18 Also, many of those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices. 19 And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and were burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand [b](F)pieces of silver. 20 So [c](G)the word of the Lord (H)was growing mightily and prevailing.

Mark 9:2-13

(A)And six days later, Jesus *took with Him (B)Peter and James and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain alone by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and (C)His garments were shining intensely white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. And Elijah appeared to them along with Moses and they were conversing with Jesus. And Peter answered and *said to Jesus, “(D)Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; (E)let us make three [a]booths, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. Then a cloud [b]formed, overshadowing them, and (F)a voice [c]came out of the cloud, “(G)This is My beloved Son, [d]listen to Him!” And all at once when they looked around, they saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.

(H)And as they were coming down from the mountain, He (I)gave them orders not to recount to anyone what they had seen, [e]until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 10 And they [f]seized upon [g]that statement, arguing with one another [h]what rising from the dead meant. 11 And they began asking Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that (J)Elijah must come first?” 12 And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of (K)the Son of Man that (L)He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt? 13 But I say to you that Elijah has [i]indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
