to follow Your word.
102 I have not turned from Your judgments,(H)
for You Yourself have instructed me.
103 How sweet Your word is(I) to my taste—
sweeter than honey in my mouth.
104 I gain understanding from Your precepts;(J)
therefore I hate every false way.(K)

Psalm 81
A Call to Obedience
For the choir director: on the Gittith. Of Asaph.(A)
1 Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.(B)
2 Lift up a song—play the tambourine,
the melodious lyre, and the harp.(C)
3 Blow the horn on the day of our feasts[a][b]
during the new moon(D)
and during the full moon.
4 For this is a statute for Israel,
a judgment of the God of Jacob.(E)
5 He set it up as an ordinance for Joseph
when He went throughout[c] the land of Egypt.(F)
I heard an unfamiliar language:
6 “I relieved his shoulder from the burden;
his hands were freed from carrying the basket.(G)
7 You called out in distress, and I rescued you;
I answered you from the thundercloud.(H)
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.(I)
8 Listen, My people, and I will admonish you.
Israel, if you would only listen to Me!(J)
9 There must not be a strange god among you;
you must not bow down to a foreign god.(K)
10 I am Yahweh your God,
who brought you up from the land of Egypt.(L)
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.(M)
11 “But My people did not listen to Me;
Israel did not obey Me.(N)
12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts
to follow their own plans.(O)
13 If only My people would listen to Me
and Israel would follow My ways,(P)
14 I would quickly subdue their enemies
and turn My hand against their foes.”(Q)
15 Those who hate the Lord
would pretend submission to Him;(R)
their doom would last forever.(S)
16 But He would feed Israel[d] with the best wheat.
“I would satisfy you with honey from the rock.”(T)
Psalm 82
A Plea for Righteous Judgment
A psalm of Asaph.(U)
1 God has taken His place in the divine assembly;
He judges among the gods:[e](V)
2 “How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked?(W)
3 Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless;
uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.(X)
4 Rescue the poor and needy;
save them from the power of the wicked.”(Y)
5 They do not know or understand;
they wander in darkness.(Z)
All the foundations of the earth are shaken.(AA)
6 I said, “You are gods;(AB)
you are all sons of the Most High.(AC)
7 However, you will die like men
and fall like any other ruler.”(AD)
8 Rise up, God, judge the earth,
for all the nations belong to You.(AE)
15 Truth is missing,
and whoever turns from evil is plundered.
The Lord saw that there was no justice,
and He was offended.
16 He saw that there was no man—
He was amazed that there was no one interceding;(A)
so His own arm brought salvation,
and His own righteousness supported Him.
17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
and a helmet of salvation on His head;(B)
He put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
and He wrapped Himself in zeal as in a cloak.(C)
18 So He will repay according to their deeds:(D)
fury to His enemies,
retribution to His foes,
and He will repay the coastlands.
19 They will fear the name of Yahweh in the west
and His glory in the east;(E)
for He will come like a rushing stream(F)
driven by the wind of the Lord.
20 “The Redeemer(G) will come to Zion,
and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression.”(H)
This is the Lord’s declaration.
21 “As for Me, this is My covenant with them,”(I) says the Lord: “My Spirit who is on you, and My words that I have put in your mouth,(J) will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouth of your children, or from the mouth of your children’s children, from now on and forever,” says the Lord.
15 This you know: All those in Asia(A) have turned away from me,(B) including Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy(C) to the household of Onesiphorus,(D) because he often refreshed me(E) and was not ashamed of my chains.(F) 17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome,(G) he diligently searched for me and found me. 18 May the Lord grant that he obtain mercy(H) from Him on that day. And you know very well how much he ministered at Ephesus.(I)
Be Strong in Grace
2 You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace(J) that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And what you have heard from me(K) in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful(L) men who will be able to teach others also.
3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.(M) 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the recruiter. 5 Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer ought to be the first to get a share of the crops.(N) 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
8 Keep your attention on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead(O) and descended from David. This is according to my gospel. 9 I suffer for it to the point of being bound like a criminal, but God’s message is not bound. 10 This is why I endure(P) all things for the elect:(Q) so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.(R) 11 This saying is trustworthy:(S)
The Question of Divorce
10 He(A) set out from there and went to the region of Judea(B) and across the Jordan.(C) Then crowds converged on Him again and, as He usually did, He began teaching(D) them once more. 2 Some Pharisees(E) approached Him to test(F) Him. They asked, “Is it lawful(G) for a man to divorce(H) his wife?”(I)
3 He replied to them, “What did Moses(J) command you?”
4 They said, “Moses permitted us to write divorce papers(K) and send her away.”(L)
5 But Jesus told them, “He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.(M) 6 But from the beginning(N) of creation(O) God[a] made them male and female.(P)[b]
7 For this reason a man will leave(Q)
his father and mother
[and be joined to his wife],[c]
8 and the two will become one flesh.(R)[d]
So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.”(S)
10 Now in the house the disciples questioned Him again about this matter. 11 And He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife(T) and marries(U) another commits adultery(V) against her. 12 Also, if she divorces her husband(W) and marries another, she commits adultery.”
Blessing the Children
13 Some(X) people were bringing little children(Y) to Him so He might touch them, but His disciples rebuked(Z) them. 14 When Jesus saw it, He was indignant(AA) and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me.(AB) Don’t stop(AC) them, for the kingdom of God(AD) belongs to such as these. 15 I assure you:(AE) Whoever does not welcome[e](AF) the kingdom of God like a little child(AG) will never enter it.” 16 After taking them in His arms, He laid His hands on(AH) them and blessed(AI) them.
