Version
Psalm 148-150

Let All Creation Praise Yahweh

148 Praise Yah.[a]
Praise Yahweh from the heavens;
praise him in the heights.
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts.[b]
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all stars of light.
Praise him, highest heavens,[c]
and waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
because he commanded and they were created.
And he put them in place forever and ever,
by a decree he gave that will not pass away.
Praise Yahweh from the earth—
great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and cloud,[d]
stormy wind doing his bidding,[e]
the mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all cattle,[f]
creeping things and flying birds,[g]
11 kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all judges of the earth,
12 young men and young women as well,
the old together with the young—
13 let them praise the name of Yahweh,
because his name alone is is exalted.
His splendor is above earth and heavens.
14 And he has raised high a horn for his people,
praise for all his faithful—
for the children of Israel,
a people close to him.
Praise Yah.[h]

Praise to God for His Future Judgment

149 Praise Yah.[i]
Sing to Yahweh a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in its maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name with dancing;
let them sing praises to him with tambourine and lyre.
For Yahweh takes pleasure in his people;
he glorifies the afflicted with salvation.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
Let the extolling of God be in their throat,
and a double-edged sword in their hand,
to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,[j]
to bind their kings with chains
and their nobles[k] with fetters of iron,
to execute on them the judgment that is decreed.[l]
This will be honor for all his faithful ones;
Praise Yah.[m]

Let Everything Praise Yahweh

150 Praise Yah.[n]
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament.
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to the abundance of his greatness.
Praise him with blast of horn;
praise him with harp and lyre.
Praise him with tambourine and dancing;
praise him with strings and flute.
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with clashing cymbals.
Every breathing thing,
let it praise Yah.[o]
Praise Yah.[p]

Psalm 114-115

Praise to God for His Works During the Exodus

114 When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language,
Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.
The sea looked and fled;
the Jordan turned back.
The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.[a]
What’s with you, O sea, that you fled?
O Jordan, that you turned back?
O mountains, that you skipped like rams?
O hills, like lambs?
At the presence of the Lord writhe, O earth,[b]
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool of water,
flinty stone into a spring of water.

Dead Idols and the Living God

115 Not to us, O Yahweh, not to us,
but to your name give glory,
because of your loyal love,
because of your faithfulness.
Why should the nations say,
“Where, pray tell,[c] is their God?”
But our God is in the heavens;
all that he desires, he does.
Their idols are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but cannot speak;
they have eyes, but cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear;
they have noses, but cannot smell;
they have their hands, but they cannot feel,
their feet, but they cannot walk;
they cannot utter a sound in their throats.
Those who make them become like them,
as does everyone who trusts in them.
O Israel, trust Yahweh;
he is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in Yahweh;
he is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear Yahweh, trust in Yahweh;
he is their help and their shield.
12 Yahweh remembers us; he will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless those who fear Yahweh,
the small with the great.
14 May Yahweh give you increase,
you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by Yahweh,
who made heaven and earth.
16 The heavens are Yahweh’s heavens,
but the earth he has given to the children of humankind.
17 The dead do not praise Yah,[d]
nor any descending into silence.
18 It is we, we will bless Yah[e]
from now until forever.
Praise Yah![f]

Proverbs 9:1-12

Wisdom’s Banquet

Wisdom has built her house;
    she has hewn her seven pillars.
She has slaughtered her slaughtering, mixed her wine,
    and also set her table.
She has sent her servant girls,[a] she calls
    upon the wings of the high places of town,
“Whoever is simple, let him turn here.”
    As for the one who lacks sense,[b] she says to him,
“Come, eat with my bread;
    drink with the wine I have mixed.
Lay aside simplicity and live;
    walk in the way of understanding.”
He who corrects a scoffer gains abuse for himself,
    and he who rebukes the wicked gets hurt.[c]
Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you;
    rebuke the wise and he will love you.
Give to a wise one and he will become more wise;
    teach[d] a righteous one and he will increase learning.

Foolishness’ Banquet

10 The start of wisdom is fear of Yahweh,
    and knowledge of the Holy One,[e] insight.
11 For by me your days shall increase,
    and years of life shall multiply for you.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
    and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it.

Acts 8:14-25

14 Now when[a] the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who went down and[b] prayed for them so that they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16 (For he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized[c] in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then they placed their[d] hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

18 Now Simon, when he[e] saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, offered them money, 19 saying, “Give to me also this power, so that whomever I place my[f] hands on may receive the Holy Spirit!” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver be destroyed along with you,[g] because you thought you could acquire[h] the gift of God by means of money! 21 You have no[i] part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and ask the Lord if perhaps the intent of your heart may be forgiven you!” 23 For I see you are in a state of bitter envy[j] and bound by unrighteousness.”[k] 24 But Simon answered and[l] said, “You pray to the Lord for me so that nothing of what you have said will come upon me.” 25 So when[m] they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they turned back toward Jerusalem, and were proclaiming the good news to many villages of the Samaritans.

Luke 10:25-28

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 And behold, a certain legal expert stood up to test him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do so that I will inherit eternal life?” 26 And he said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”[a] 27 And he answered and[b] said, “You shall love the Lord your God from all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind,[c] and your neighbor as yourself.”[d] 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.”

Luke 10:38-42

Martha and Mary

38 Now as they traveled along, he entered into a certain village. And a certain woman named[a] Martha welcomed him.[b] 39 And she had[c] a sister named Mary, who also sat at the feet of Jesus[d] and[e] was listening to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much preparation, so she approached and[f] said, “Lord, is it not a concern to you that my sister has left me alone to make preparations? Then tell her that she should help me!” 41 But the Lord answered and[g] said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things! 42 But few things are necessary, or only one thing,[h] for Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
