the house of Jacob from a people

Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel, his dominion.(B)

The sea looked and fled;(C)
the Jordan turned back.(D)

Glory to God Alone

Not to us, Lord, not to us,

Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?” (K)
Our God is in heaven

Proverbs 9:1-12

Wisdom versus Foolishness

Wisdom has built her house;(A)
she has carved out her seven pillars.
She has prepared her meat;(B) she has mixed her wine;(C)
she has also set her table.(D)
She has sent out her female servants;(E)
she calls out from the highest points of the city:(F)
“Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!”
To the one who lacks sense,(G) she says,
“Come, eat my bread,(H)
and drink the wine I have mixed.
Leave inexperience behind, and you will live;
pursue the way of understanding.
The one who corrects a mocker
will bring abuse on himself;
the one who rebukes the wicked will get hurt.[a]
Don’t rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you;(I)
rebuke the wise, and he will love you.(J)
Instruct the wise, and he will be wiser still;
teach the righteous, and he will learn more.(K)

10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,(L)
and the knowledge of the Holy One(M) is understanding.
11 For by me your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit;(N)
if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences.”

Acts 8:14-25

Simon’s Sin

14 When the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.(A) 15 After they went down there, they prayed for them so that the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit because he had not yet come down on any of them. 16 (They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.(B)) 17 Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

18 When Simon saw that the Spirit[a] was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”

20 But Peter told him, “May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!(C) 21 You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.(D) 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, your heart’s intent may be forgiven. 23 For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by wickedness.”(E)

24 “Pray to the Lord for me,” Simon replied, “so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”(F)

25 So, after they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they traveled back to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

Luke 10:25-28

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 Then(A) an expert in the law(B) stood up to test(C) him, saying, “Teacher,(D) what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (E)

26 “What is written in the law?” he asked him. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “Love the Lord your God(F) with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,”(G) and “your neighbor as yourself.”[a](H)

28 “You’ve answered correctly,” he told him. “Do this and you will live.”(I)

Luke 10:38-42

Martha and Mary

38 While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha(A) welcomed him into her home.[a] 39 She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s[b] feet(B) and was listening to what he said.[c] 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(C) that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.”[d](D)

41 The Lord[e] answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things,(E) 42 but one thing is necessary.[f](F) Mary has made the right choice,[g] and it will not be taken away from her.”
