Abraham Tested
Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.

When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called for Esau his older son and said to him, “My son.” “Here I am,” he answered.

The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’

And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!” “Here I am,” he replied.

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”

But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’

“Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!

Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.”

And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.

Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”

A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy.

but Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son.” Samuel answered, “Here I am.”

he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”

God’s Promise to David
After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”

Then I said, “Here I am, I have come— it is written about me in the scroll.
-
“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!
-
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’”
-
Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.
-
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
