I will do this because your father Abraham ·obeyed me [^Llistened to my voice]. He did what I said and obeyed my ·instructions [charge], my commands, my teachings, and my ·rules [instructions; laws].”

The same ·rules [laws; instructions] apply to ·an Israelite born in the country [the native] or to a ·foreigner [sojourner, wanderer; resident alien] living there.”

This feast will help you remember, like a ·mark [sign] on your hand or a reminder ·on your forehead [^Lbetween your eyes]. This feast will remind you to speak the Lord’s ·teachings [law; instructions], because the Lord used his ·great power [^Lstrong hand] to bring you out of Egypt.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will cause ·food [bread] to fall like rain from ·the sky [heaven] for all of you. Every day the people must go out and gather what they need for that day. I want to ·see if the people will do what I teach them [^Ltest them to see if they will walk in my law/instruction or not].

Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you people refuse to ·obey [keep] my commands and ·teachings [instructions; laws]?

When people have a ·disagreement [^Lmatter; case], they come to me, and I ·decide who is right [judge between a person and his neighbor]. I tell them God’s ·laws [statutes; ordinances; requirements] and ·teachings [instructions; laws].”

Warn them about the ·laws [statutes; ordinances; requirements] and ·teachings [instructions; laws], and ·teach [make known to] them the ·right way to live [^Lway they should go] and what they should do.

God Promises Moses the Stone Tablets

The Lord said to Moses, “Come up the mountain to me. Wait there, and I will give you two stone tablets [^Cperhaps two copies of the Ten Commandments]. On these are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] and the commands I have written to instruct the people.”

“Give this command to Aaron and ·the priests [^Lhis sons]: ‘These are the ·teachings [laws; instruction] about the whole burnt offering [1:1–17]: The burnt offering must stay on the [^Lhearth of the] altar all night until morning, and the altar’s fire must be kept burning.

The Grain Offering

“‘These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about the ·grain [^Lgift; tribute] offering [2:1]: The ·priests [^Lsons of Aaron] must bring it to the Lord in front of the altar.

“Tell Aaron and ·the priests [^Lhis sons]: ‘These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about the ·sin [or purification; 4:3] offering: The ·sin [or purification; 4:3] offering must be ·killed [slaughtered] in front of the Lord in the same place the whole burnt offering [ch. 1] is ·killed [slaughtered]; it is most holy.

The Penalty Offering

“‘These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about the ·penalty [guilt; reparation] offering [5:14–6:7], which is most holy:

“‘The ·penalty [guilt; reparation] offering [5:14–6:7] is like the ·sin [or purification] offering [4:3] in that the ·teachings [laws; instructions] are the same for both. The priest who ·offers the sacrifice to remove sins [makes atonement with it] will ·get the meat for food [^Lhave it].

The Fellowship Offering

“‘These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about the ·fellowship [or peace; well-being] offering [3:1] a person may offer to the Lord:

These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about the whole burnt offering, the ·grain [gift; tribute] offering [2:1], the ·sin [or purification; 4:3] offering, the ·penalty [guilt; reparation] offering [5:14–6:7], the offering for ·the appointment of priests [ordination], and the ·fellowship [or peace; well-being] offering [3:1].

“‘These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about all of the cattle, birds, and other animals on earth, as well as the animals ·in the sea [^Lthat moves in the water] and those that ·crawl [swarm] on the ground.

He will offer them before the Lord to make her clean [^Cin a ritual sense] ·so she will belong to the Lord again [^Lto make atonement for her]; then she will be clean from her ·loss [flow] of blood. These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] for a woman who gives birth to a boy or girl.

“These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] about mildew [13:47] on pieces of cloth (either woven or knitted) or leather, to decide if they are clean or unclean [^Cin a ritual sense].”

“These are the ·teachings [instructions; laws] for the time at which people who had a harmful skin disease [13:2] are made clean [^Cin a ritual sense]. “The person shall be brought to the priest,

These are the ·teachings [laws; instructions] for the person who ·discharges a body fluid [has a discharge] and for the man who becomes unclean [^Cin a ritual sense] from ·semen coming out of his body [an emission of semen].

These are the ·laws [statutes; ordinances; requirements], ·rules [regulations], and ·teachings [laws; instructions] the Lord made between himself and the Israelites through Moses at Mount Sinai.

“‘So this is the ·teaching [instruction; law] about jealousy. This is what to do when a woman does wrong and is unfaithful while she is married to her husband.

It also should be done if the man gets jealous because he suspects his wife. The priest will have her stand before the Lord, and he will do all these things, just as the ·teaching [instruction; law] commands.

“‘This is the ·teaching [instruction; law] for the Nazirites. When the ·promised time [time of their consecration] is over, they must go to the entrance of the Meeting Tent

“‘This is the ·teaching [instruction; law] for the Nazirites who ·make a promise [take a vow]. Everyone who makes the Nazirite ·promise [vow] must give all of these gifts to the Lord. If they promised to do more, they must keep their ·promise [vow], according to the ·teaching [instruction; law] of the Nazirites.’”
