And they said, “Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?”

When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot, because she had covered her face.

Then he asked the men of that place, saying, “Where is the harlot who was openly by the wayside?” And they said, “There was no harlot in this place.”

And he returned to Judah and said, “I cannot find her, and also the men of the place said that there was no harlot in this place.”

And it came to pass about three months after that it was told Judah, saying, “Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom.” And Judah said, “Bring her forth, and let her be burned.”

A widow or a divorced woman or profane or a harlot, these shall he not take; but he shall take a virgin of his own people for a wife.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, even Jericho.” And they went and came into a harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

And the city shall be accursed, even it and all who are therein, to the Lord. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

But Joshua had said unto the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out from thence the woman and all that she hath, as ye swore unto her.”

And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
