Eternal One: The tenth day of the seventh month is set aside as the Day of Atonement. On that day, you must call together the people for a sacred assembly, humble and discipline yourselves by fasting, and bring a fire-offering to Me.

If anyone does not humble and discipline himself on this day, he must be cut off from the community.

This is to be a Sabbath Day, a day of complete rest, a day when you humble and discipline yourselves. When the ninth day of the month arrives, you are to honor this Sabbath from dusk till dusk.

Moses: If you carefully obey all these things I’m commanding you—if you really do love the Eternal your God and live as He wants you to and devote yourselves to Him—

But discipline yourselves not to eat the blood because the blood is the soul, and you mustn’t eat the soul along with the meat.

If anyone has a stubborn and rebellious son who refuses to obey his father and mother, who won’t even listen to them when they discipline him,

I will be to him a father, and he will be to Me a son. When he crosses the line and acts badly, I will teach him with a rod used by people for correction and a lash for discipline.

By the word of the Eternal, one of the prophets’ sons made a request to another man. Prophet’s Son: Hit me. Man: No.

You will long for my father’s leniency. He made you work hard, but I will make you work even harder. He disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with the sting of scorpions.”

The king followed the advice of his young friends, answering harshly and ignoring the advice of his father’s advisors. Rehoboam: You will long for my father’s leniency. He made you work hard, but I will make you work even harder. He disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with the sting of scorpions.

Remember, a happy man accepts God’s correction, so don’t despise the discipline of the Highest God.

And what is His aim? Whether for the discipline of His people or for the sake of the earth itself, Or as an expression of His deep, loyal love, He causes all of this to happen.

You discipline us for our sins. Like a moth, You consume everything we treasure; it’s evident we are merely a breath. [pause]

When I mourn and discipline my soul by fasting, they deride me.

“I discipline the arrogant by telling them, ‘No more bragging.’ I discipline the wicked by saying, ‘Do not raise your horn to demonstrate your power.

How fortunate are those You discipline, O Eternal One, those You train by Your divine law;

The Eternal has taught me many lessons; He has been strict and severe, but even in His discipline, He has not allowed me to die.

So that you would recognize wisdom and value discipline; that you would understand insightful teaching

And receive wise guidance to live a disciplined life; that you would seek justice and have the ability to choose what is right and fair.

Because the Eternal proves His love by caring enough to discipline you, just as a father does his child, his pride and joy.

How fortunate are those who discover Lady Wisdom and those who understand her ways!

My son, pay attention to all the words I am telling you. Lean in closer so you may hear all I say.

Because they have no discipline, their spirits die and their bodies will soon follow; because they are immensely foolish, they wander lost and confused.

For their direction is a lamp; their instruction will light your path, and their discipline will correct your missteps, sending you down the right path of life.

Whoever tries to discipline a scoffer should expect a hail of insults in return. Whoever tries to correct an evildoer is likely to get hurt in the process.
