  1. Then the people of all the earth came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe in all the earth.
  2. Then he said, “Look, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down there and buy some for us from that place, so that we may live and not die.”
  3. So ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.
  4. So the sons of Israel came to buy grain among those who were coming, because the famine was also in the land of Canaan.
  5. When Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he disguised himself to them and spoke to them harshly. He said to them, “Where have you come from?” And they said, “From the land of Canaan, to buy food.”
  6. And they said to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.
  7. So it came about, when they had finished eating the grain which they had brought from Egypt, that their father said to them, “Go back, buy us a little food.”
  8. If you send our brother with us, we will go down and buy you food.
  9. and said, “Oh, my lord, we indeed came down the first time to buy food,
  10. We have also brought down other money in our hand to buy food; we do not know who put our money in our sacks.”
  11. And our father said, ‘Go back, buy us a little food.’
  12. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. So give us seed, so that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate.”
  13. Only the land of the priests he did not buy, because the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh, and they lived off the allotment which Pharaoh gave them. Therefore, they did not sell their land.
  14. “If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he shall leave as a free man without a payment to you.
  15. But if a priest buys a slave as his property with his money, that person may eat of it, and those who are born in his house may eat of his food.
  16. Furthermore, if you make a sale to your friend, or buy from your friend’s hand, you shall not wrong one another.
  17. Corresponding to the number of years after the jubilee, you shall buy from your friend; he is to sell to you according to the number of years of crops.
  18. ‘If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor that he sells part of his property, then his closest redeemer is to come and buy back what his relative has sold.
  19. You are to buy food from them with money so that you may eat, and you shall also purchase water from them with money so that you may drink.
  20. And the Lord will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I said to you, ‘You will never see it again!’ And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”
  21. So I thought that I would inform you, saying, ‘Buy it before those who are sitting here, and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if not, tell me so that I may know; for there is no one except you to redeem it, and I am after you.’” And he said, “I will redeem it.”
  22. Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the deceased, in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance.”
  23. So the redeemer said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” And he removed his sandal.
  24. Then Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the Lord, so that the plague may be withdrawn from the people.”
  25. However, the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will certainly buy it from you for a price; for I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
