  1. He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, ‘Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.

  14. Who would listen to you in this matter? For the share of the one who goes down into the battle shall be the same as the share of the one who stays by the baggage; they shall share alike.’
  15. The battle pressed hard upon Saul; the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by them.
  16. David said to him, ‘How did things go? Tell me!’ He answered, ‘The army fled from the battle, but also many of the army fell and died; and Saul and his son Jonathan also died.’
  17. How the mighty have fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan lies slain upon your high places.
  18. The Battle of Gibeon

    Abner son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbaal son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
  19. The battle was very fierce that day; and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten by the servants of David.
  20. Joab sounded the trumpet and all the people stopped; they no longer pursued Israel or engaged in battle any further.
