  5. With this ritual and on this day, the Eternal One made a covenant with Abram. Eternal One: I make a solemn promise to give this land to your descendants—from the river of Egypt to the great Euphrates River,
  6. The sign that you and your family keep My covenant is this: each male who lives among you shall be circumcised. The circumcised flesh of your foreskins constitutes a special “sign” of the covenant I made with you, a relationship bonded together by loyalty and love.

I have chosen him for a reason, namely that he will carefully instruct his children and his household to keep themselves strong in relationship to Me and to walk in My ways by doing what is good and right in the world and by showing mercy and justice to all others. I know he will uphold his end of the covenant, so that he can ensure My promises to him will be fulfilled and upheld as well.
  8. Eternal One: Throw your staff down on the ground. So Moses threw the staff on the ground, and it was transformed into a snake. Moses quickly jumped back in fear.

  14. The Eternal One spoke to Moses and Aaron.
  15. Eternal One: I will turn against any individual who prostitutes himself by turning to mediums and consulting with those who communicate with the spirits of the dead. I will cut him off from his community.
  16. The Eternal One said to Moses.
  17. Moses: So watch what you do! Be careful with your very life! Don’t forget the things you saw with your own eyes, and don’t let them fade from your memory. Remember them your whole life; teach them to your children and your grandchildren.
  18. Moses: So be very careful to do what the Eternal your God commanded you! Don’t turn to the right or to the left;
  19. If we carefully obey everything the Eternal our God has commanded us, then we’ll be living as we should, in righteousness and in right relationship with Him.
  20. Moses: When the Eternal your God has destroyed the nations whose land you’re going to occupy, when you’ve displaced them and settled there,
  21. What if someone close to you whispers secretly, “Let’s go worship other gods”? It doesn’t matter if it’s your brother or half-brother, your own son or daughter, your beloved wife or closest friend. Whether they’re gods of the people who live around you or gods of people who live far away—the gods of anyone on the face of the earth! You’ve never worshiped any of these gods before, and neither did your ancestors, because you’re in a covenant relationship with the Eternal.
  22. Another celebration the Eternal your God wants you to have is the Feast of Weeks. Hold this celebration seven weeks after you first begin to cut and harvest the barley in your fields. Each of you will choose something to contribute out of what He has blessed you with.
  23. Moses: When you go to battle against your enemies and the Eternal, your True God, enables you to defeat them and take them captive,
  24. These are the terms of the covenant the Eternal commanded Moses to make with the people of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant He made with them at Horeb.
  25. Moses: The Eternal your God will strike your enemies, those who hated you and came after you, with all these curses.
