  14. The Covenant of Circumcision

  15. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
  16. For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring.
  17. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”
  18. Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’
  19. Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?
  20. Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,
  21. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.
  22. To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”
  23. Abraham Tested

    Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
  24. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
  25. I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.”
